Yeah not sure how the Thunder are a purist's dream, their best player is a poor defender, their PG is one of the worst "pure" PGs you will see, their two big men have about 1 post move combined and it's UGLY, they have a flopper who plays completely out control most of the time and they murdered the Sonics.
Really the thing that is likeable about the Thunder is that Durant is awesome, Ibaka is awesome, Westbrook is a freak, Harden has the greatest beard in forever and Perkins looks 50 when he isn't even 30.
Purists wanted the Spurs and the Spurs would have beaten the Heat, basketball is and always will be about matchups, LeBron is right next to Durant offensively, possibly better once you factor in passing, but the difference is on defense, Durant can't stay with LeBron at all and is getting stupid fouls to boot. Perkins is completely wasted against the Heat who have nothing at all inside for him to sweat on. Ibaka is wasted against the Heat because the only big worth defending is a jump shooting girly man who plays 20 feet from the basket and drags him so far out he can't help with any consistency.
Basically the best offensive players for the Heat are attacking the weakest defensive parts of the Thunder and exposing those that can play defense and the reverse is true at the other end, Durant is being made to work hard, Westbrook is being left to his own instead of challenged.
Thunder need to adjust, they either need to force Perkins to get inside and do something offensively or get him off the court because he has no matchup defensively. Durant needs to be more assertive, he can't be only shooting 19 times when he is so hot right now. Sefo needs to play big minutes he is their best matchup for both Wade and James and needs to be glued on them, partly to slow them, partly to protect Durant. They are in the games despite all of these problems but they need to get the ball out of James' hands as much as possible and make Wade beat them. I flat out don't get making James beat you as a tactic, I love Wade as a player but James is just flat out better at pretty much everything. Force Wade to take 30 shots.

So Durant is a poor defender, average passer, and great scorer and closer and he can win a championship.
But Melo is a poor defender (when he doesn't try), average passer, and great scorer and closer but can't win a championship eh?
Interesting.
Pot meet kettle.

Durant and Melo are clearly comparable talents.

They are. Except Melo has a better post game. And when he tries, he plays better defense.

I dont get this notion where Durant is a poor defender. He's no lebron. He's no bruce bowen. But it's not like he's Melo on defense. He hardly dogs it and isn't a revolving door.
Wait, he's having trouble against arguably the best offensive player in the NBA? NO WAY
and the thunder have a combo guard at the point and 0 offense coming from their bigs. Hardly a purists dream.
Also, Durant is just way better than melo. And he's funnier. And doesn't have a dumb mustache

I think Melo can be a great superstar if he just limits his isos from 90 percent of posessions to around 60. If he can develop a better catch and shoot game then he'd be great.
Durant does both catch and shoot and iso, that's why I think he's so good.
You're right though, Melo is a great closer. Can play great defense when he wants and an ok passer. The ball just can't stop when it's in his hands.

I actually think a better strategy would be to have him dog it on defense. Not completely but stop trying as hard. In back to back games now, he's been in foul trouble during crucial moments of the game. At least don't let him guard wade or lebron.

just some general thoughts I have. nothing that isn't completely obvious already...
if Scott Brooks isn't ********, although I am fully confident that he is, Perkins would be playing less than 10 mpg this series. They should be playing small early and often, but he insists on giving Perkins way too many minutes when the only type of player he's useful against is a Howard or Bynum. Ibaka is also neutralized a little by Bosh's ability to step outside the lane, which really opens things up. When Battier and Chalmers are hitting their 3's, the Heat small lineup is a nightmare to defend.
right now, Kevin Durant has to swallow his pride and stop guarding Lebron. it's devastating to OKC when he gets in foul trouble and I think that's really why they've lost the last two games. It might be time to try Harden in the starting lineup and go with a small lineup of Westbrook-Harden-Sefolosha-Durant-Ibaka/Collison.
So, pretty much, unless Durant stays out of foul trouble and Scott Brooks pulls his head out of his ass, this series is as good as over. If Perkins is in the starting five tomorrow night, that says about everything you need to know as an OKC fan.

I was thinking the same thing about Brooks coaching ability. I thuoght the greatest testament was when they were nursing a 10/11 point lead and had both westbrook and durant on the bench. I understood taking durant out but at least leave westbrook in. What do you know, they completely lost that lead.

I enjoy BBDs trolling. If he weren't so smart in other threads, and if I didn't know that he's a scientist, I'd swear he's ******** in the head. It amuses me.

Kidd said he wants to back up D-Will, so the Nets PG's could be D-Will and J-Kidd next year!
which means it'll be Farmar and Armon Johnson

No we won't. We suck.
And the difference between Durant and Melo is that Durant isn't a selfish **** like Melo is.
