The big question to me for the Lakers is how good Nash will be. If Nash is playing at a high level, everyone else on the floor with him will be better.

I'm pretty sure the Kings can match up toe to toe with these new Lakers and win.

Isaiah Thomas > Steve Nash
Tyreke Evans = Kobe Bryant
James Johnson = Metta World Peace
Jason Thompson < Pau Gasoline
Demarcus Cousins = D Howard

Thomas Robinson/Chuck Hayes > trash on the bench.

Gasol for Boozer, let's do it. Boozer loves taking jumpers from the elbows, and is 2 years younger. And by looking at stats, you could say that he's a upgrade defensively.

-Dwight is the best center in the league, DeAndre is a below average starter and lost his job in the postseason to Reggie ******* Evans
-Maybe now, but it's ridiculously close and Gasol is a better defender
-Meh, Butler's better and he's still solid but it's not like he's dynamite
-Another MASSIVE gap, as Billups should not be playing SG because he sucks there and Kobe's the best SG in the NBA (since Wade is half dead)
-Fair, but Nash is a better shooter and will work very well off the pick and roll with Dwight

The Lakers are better this year and don't have the worst coach in the NBA.

Just reading Simmons:

Quote:
WINNER: Pau Gasol Last year, Pau was playing the high post (not his game) on a fairly unhappy team with below-average point guards and settling for Kobe/Bynum shot scraps, basically. Oh, and he got thrown into a trade that was vetoed, had to spend the season playing for his old team and pretending they hadn't just tried to trade him, sweated out February's trade deadline and sweated out more trade rumors in June, July and even yesterday (when he was initially rumored to be included in this four-teamer). I'm going out on a limb and saying that he'll enjoy his 2012-13 experience a little more.2
This has always been my issue with Pau and Bynum. When Bynum's going, dominating the low block, Gasol's relegated to a 7-foot jump shooter. I don't see how Howard helps that unless he really acts as a defensive dynamo (which might actually be smartest), and scores like 1 5-16 PPG on putbacks, etc.

In other words, I don't think DH12 helps their offense much. I think they should accentuate Pau in the post and he doesn't really allow them to do that.

.500, AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. You think Jameer/Afflalo/Hedo?/Davis/O'Quinn (just a random guess, probably Al/Davis is what it will be) will be .500?

According to Bovada we are in a 5 way tie with the Hornets, Timberwolves, Warriors, & Bucks for the 7th worst team(least likely to win the 2013 NBA Championship)

Pick. And. Roll. With Nash the offense isn't going to be solely focused on giving Kobe iso every play or dumping to Bynum (now Dwight) under the basket.

Hell even the Simmons article you quoted mentions this. Kobe actually mentioned the Princeton Offense (LOTS of screens and PG movement) even before Nash and D12 were acquired. Nash is going to make the Lakers offense a lot more potent.

I would be completely and utterly shocked if Lakers don't take full advantage of their athletic bigs (and Gasol's passing) with a lot of screens and P&R. If they ever have to slow things down they can always revert to giving Kobe iso or letting Dwight bang down low.

I think player who is going to have the biggest benefit of this deal is Metta World Peace (or as BS called him "Metta Wide-Open 3").

Nash has actually been very effective the past few years off the ball so I wouldn't be surprised if Kobe still had the highest usage rate

Well the Lakers made the trade knowing they would be without Dwight for the beginning of the season, but whoever said hes going to miss half the season is out of their mind. Hes likely to be back in mid november. Dwight feels he can be ready for the beginning of the season but the Lakers FO isn't worried about rushing him.

And docta....no one wants Boozer and that joke of a contract he undeservingly got.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying Kobe is going to be relegated to a spot shooter :)

I'm saying that the offense is no longer a choice between Kobe iso and Bynum under the hoop.

So the general consensus is that this trade makes the Lakers THE favorite?

They are not the favorite, the Heat are the favorite till someone takes it away. The Thunder are still the favorite in the west...till someone takes it away, but the Lakers definitely improved their chances and got much, much better this off-season.

2 of the moves that are the most important but not noted are the Jamison and Meeks signings. We have had no scoring on our bench for the past 2 or 3 years and no sign of a 3 point pulse, these guys bring that. Add in Jordan Hill and we have ourselves one helluva big man rotation.

toss up between them and the Thunder for me, Nash has always been abused by Westbrook but he has also never had anyone like Dwight defending the paint so that will certainly limit that match up

Really I think it will come down to Lakers role players making their open shots vs Harden being the 3rd star on the Thunder

Tell that to Kobe :)

If it works, it's going to take time. And I just think Gasol will fall to the background, become complacent, and not play at his peak. And that will be their downfall.

I also think Kobe's efficiency will slowly begin to wane but I wouldn't be surprise if he out-works conventional wisdom.

It's just four new BIG guys. Teammates cater to THEM, not the other way around. A lot of compromises must be made. Again, the situation is comparable to GP/Malone/Kobe/Shaq just as a bunch of different style players who have always been the man/need to be the man clashing. And these guys don't have Phil Jackson. Maybe I'll be wrong.

They are obviously going to steamroll through the regular season but I don't see them beating Miami.

I still wouldnt be surprised if Pau gets traded at the deadline if hes not performing well. I could see them going to the Josh Smith deal if its still on the table at that time.

I think Pau fits much better than Smith would

As do I, but it would be a little bit of a salary dump and gives us a little more youth and athleticism.

Helps us out big time defensively, but definitely lose some offense if Josh has it in his head hes a jump shooter like hes shown time and time again.

I know Miami is really good but that's cause last season Lebron played at an impossibly high level in the Finals. Let's not forget they struggled against Indiana & Boston before mopping the floor with the Thunder.

I also personally think Dwayne Wade will be worse.
