Flights to Dublin are only $2,150 and tickets are only $82. Anybody want to give me about $4,500 so my wife and I can go see UCF play in Ireland?

Why did UCF agree to play a game in Ireland again?

I get why it theoretically works for Notre Dame or Penn State, maybe even Navy (as appreciation for them not speaking German) but it doesn't click even with George O'Leary as the HC.

Publicity. It's either that or play ND in South Bend or maybe somewhere like New York, or don't play ND at all. Whether they get spanked or not, they can use it to gain popularity with fans and recruits (in theory).

Realistically it's ND's connection to Ireland, and then whoever they get to play them.

They made the agreement to play a home-and-home. They played at PSU last year. PSU was having difficulties scheduling a return trip to Orlando (or just didn't want to play there) because of changes in the BIG schedule and they wanted to play in Ireland. It was either play in Ireland or try and find a new opponent (likely a lowly FCS team). Playing in Ireland, even if they lose, will have more longterm benefits than beating down Charleston Southern.

This would make sense if they were actually playing Notre Dame in Ireland. Instead they're playing Penn State.

Ha my bad, I was confusing it with last year's ND game.

I mean they still get publicity, but yea, not sure why Ireland of all places. But yea, basically as jrd alluded to, it was either play PSU where they wanted or find a new opponent I'm sure.

I'm likely going to miss this game unfortunately. This is the last weekend without a full slate of football for a while so I'm sure my wife will want to get as much work out of me as possible. I'll probably have to clean the garage and work on the garden all day.

UCF-Penn State could potentially be cancelled because of an increased chance of an Icelandic volcano erupting. When this happened before over 100K flights to Europe were cancelled. It's still unlikely but it's possible.

Louisville WR Devante Parker is out indefinitely with a foot injury. Louisville fans are giving of the impression it's really bad.

Clemson RB Zac Brooks is out for season with a knee injury.

Florida State released the Depth Chart with some decent surprises...

OL
Austin Barron takes over for Rimington Award winner Bryan Stork

WR
Rashad Greene, Christian Green, and Kermit Whitfield are listed as starting.

Defense
It looks like FSU is basically going with a modified 5-2 defense.....

Jack (DE) - Mario Edwards
DT - Eddie Goldman
NG - Niles Lawrence-Stamp
DE - Derrick Mitchell (this came out of nowhere, most FSU fans had written him off)
Sam (DE) - Chris Casher

Will - Terrance Smith
Mike - E.J. Levenberry

Most notable among the LB/DE spots, Matthew Thomas is NOT on the Depth Chart. Fisher claims this is due to injury at this time, he has an ankle injury that is not healing too quickly.

Rashad Greene is listed as the Punt Returner. FSU tried this in 2012 and whereas he did return 2 punts for TDs, he struggled catching the ball and returning kicks. I also despise the idea of the very clear cut #1 WR returning punts in a year with little to no experience behind him at WR.

Cason Beatty is listed as the starting punter, but a walk-on is listed as well. I anticipate Beatty is gone after this year as FSU looks to take a Juco transfer from Florida Atlantic.

Something I was debating with a co-worker recently and wanted to hear more thoughts:

If Ohio St. wins this weekend, do you think they'll drop significantly in the rankings anyway? Obviously, if they knew Braxton Miller was going to miss this year before the preseason poll was done, OSU wouldn't be ranked anywhere near #5. They'd still be ranked, but nowhere near that high.

So even if they go into this weekend and win, even winning easily, I think they could drop.

That sounds like a lot more work than most voters put in, so probably not, unless the QBs suck and OSU almost loses.

Some voters will. And I expect enough will that they will drop a few spots. But will they drop to the 20s like they should? No, because voters are idiots. Last year, I realized how dumb many of them really were because I went in depth on the votes for UCF. Like when UCF had three common games as Michigan, performed substantially better in all three games, and had a better record yet a bunch of voters had Michigan above UCF. Or when voters rank teams below teams they just beat (UCF-Lousiville, Auburn-Texas A&M for example).

They should drop, but B1G teams tend to get the some protection from the voters SEC teams get.

Well I suppose playing 12 players on Offense and Defense will help them improve 4-8 percent this coming season.

Note the second team QB is Treon Harris, not 5* wonder-boy Will Grier.

I can't believe Andre Debose is still there.
