Does anyone else find this so irritating?
The media constantly making going 16-0 an amazing accomplishment the, perfect season. But than in the article they always mention it is meaningless if they don't win the SB. If going 16-0 is meaingless if you don't go 19-0, how can going 16-0 be so amazing? 16-0 is big but they make it sound like its the end of the journey but its not and they have 3 very tough games ahead.

well, considering no ones ever done 16-0 before, that alone makes it pretty amazing regardless of the final outcome of thier season.
if they dont go 19-0 then, 16-0 will still stand out imo

The Patriots are undefeated? Oh, I didn't know they were playing this year.

If they go 16-0 and lose in the playoffs then people will just remember them as a team that skated through an easy schedule.

Their schedule wasn't easy though..
they played the NFC's #1 Seed, Dallas. (13-2)
they played every Division Winner in the AFC including:
#2 seed Indianapolis (13-2)
both #3, and #4 seeds Pittsburgh (10-5), San Diego (10-5)
and a surprising Cleveland team that can still make the playoffs, if they beat the Giants they will have beaten another NFC playoff team with double digit Wins.
It's only their own Division the AFC East that was a complete cupcake, but other than that they played a lot of quality opponents.

Welcome to ESPN.
These idiots are in their own world.
Sorry, 16-0 is huge and in many ways much more of an accomplishment that the SB. Hints why nobody has been able to do it before.

16-0 is impressive for the fact they did beat a lot of opponents in a row without slipping up. They beat at least 2 teams some people probably thought better at the time (Cowboys and Colts.)
Still, yeah, if you lose in the playoffs it's all for naught and you automatically fall to 43 on any best team ever list 'cuz the number one requirement for that is a SB title (plus if you count pre-SB teams you fall even further.)

I can't believe people are complaining about 16-0 not being a big deal. This is the NFL, no team is "that" much better than another. The Pats have been on point this year. To try and dispell their accomplishment is kind of crazy...

No. If they don't win a Super Bowl, people won't really care about this team years from now. They'll be known as a great team, but not legendary.

They'll be known as a team that choked in crunch time. Everybody is getting a little ahead of themselves here though.

More of an accomplishment than the Super Bowl? Ask the Patriots which they'd rather accomplish.

Historically speaking - yes it is more of an accomplishment. Just like rushing for 350 yards in one game would be historically more of an accomplishment than rushing for 1800 yards in a season.
I don't care what anybody says - winning 16 consecutive games in the salary cap era with the parity that is in the league today is amazing. Not the great Cowboys, 49ers, Eagles, Bills or any of the other great teams can say that.
If the Pats lose in the playoffs, I still firmly believe they will be remembered as one of the greatest teams ever. Now, the will also be remembered as "choking".
Look at the '83 Houston team or the '92 UNLV teams (college basketball). I still remember both teams as being amazing and would put both teams on a very short list of greatest college teams ever. Neither team won it all either.

Sorry, I'm still of the thinking that they should be 14-1 with a loss to the jets by default.
I find it utterly disgusting that they didn't have to forfeit a game they cheated in, let alone after it being stressed because they've been caught before.
Just like College. If you're player gets caught taking payments, you can have to forfeit every game that player was in.
It's just one of those things where, I think Goodell pussed out. No team who got busted cheating should be able to go into the record book.
Now before I get blasted and hear "It gave them no competitive advantage". It doesn't freakin matter. It's illegal, they were told not to do it, they should've had to forfeit the game.
So, for me, if they go 16-0... I'll be praying for any team that hasn't been busted for cheating to beat them out, 2 years in a row. I don't care if it's the Ravens or Browns. It disgusts me.

A team wins the super bowl every year. The Patriots could be the first team EVER to go 16-0. That seems like more of an accomplishment to me.

I've never heard anyone say that they would rather go undefeated, then winning the superbowl.
So what if they go undefeated? It means nothing if you don't win the superbowl.

I don't think the Pats will go 19-0. Why you ask?
Because remember in the '05 NCAAF season when ESPN did a segment on the best teams in college football history, and compared them with the current USC team which consisted of Leinart, Bush, etc? Every expert picked USC over the best teams in history, and basically either puffed up Southern Cal's ego or slapped Texas in the face. Then USC was upset by Texas in the Rose Bowl, despite Texas being the least talented of the teams.
I think that we could see a situation like that. A coach will pull a Belichick, and tape Bill Parcells saying that he thinks the Patriots would beat one of the 70's Steelers teams, 90's Cowboys teams, 80's 49ers teams, or the '85 Bears. And I think a team will go up and beat the Pats in Foxboro after the Pats go 16-0.

If the Titans had a better offense, maybe.
The Jags are the only team I can see go in and man-handle the Pats. They have every requirement needed: dominant running game, QB that protects the ball, and a great defense. Plus, if there's snow or anything like that, the Pats passing attack becomes hampered.
But the AFC is so competitive, all the Pats, or any other team really, have to do is struggle a little bit and they can be upset.
