Anyone else interested in who gets the Atlanta job.
That team, in that situation reminds me very much of post seifert Carolina. In need of a rah-rah type coach and superb drafting and FA for a few years from their FO.

Really, I think Ryan would be a nice fit. Lets say he convinces us to grab Gholston over Ryan.
----------------J. Williams-------------------------L. Milloy
--------------------------Boley----------Brooking
Houston------Abraham----------------------------Gholston---------Hall
-----------------------???-------Lewis------Anderson
That would be killer. And of course we could run some 4-3 and 4-6 and etc etc as well. We have some talent on offense and if we want to win a few games we need someone to utilize that talent.

Does anyone else see Mike Martz being a huge upgrade in San Francisco. Looking at Alex Smith's development so far he's had seasons comparable to guys like Drew Brees. Before there was stability as far as offensive line and Cam Cameron's scheme clicking their stats are fairly comparable.
Clearly Smith's best year was under Turner, and Martz imo is on the same level as an offensive coordinator as turner. Can anyone else see Martz pushing Nolan and Co to actually upgrade that offense and get him the help he needs, and therefore smith making some strides.
I realise he's got some mechanical issues, but Martz is good with poor mechanics.
Just throwing some ideas around in my head.

I agree. Good hire. They (San Francisco 49ers) will turn the ball over but a Mike Martz offense will score. Definitely an upgrade.

The NFL Network bottum line said the Vikings are interviewing defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier for head coaching position.
It did not say Falcons. Probably a typo.

I can't see Frazier getting the job. First off, he doesn't really have the most impressive resume. Secondly, Frazier would most likely run the Tampa 2. Bumping Rich McKay out of personel decisions (apparently) and hiring someone from the Patriots, only to then run the Tampa 2 (which is McKay's specialty) makes no sense.
Then again, the Falcons haven't made the most logical personel decisions as of late, so I suppose anything is possible.

Im just confused as to why people think its such a horrible job...are they really in a worse position then what the raiders were a year ago when they couldnt block for anyone and people were saying they were the worst offense ever? Now they have some building blocks and with a strong draft this year they could make a push in the right direction...Atlanta has more young building blocks then Miami does this year as well...
With free agency and parity the way it is that job wont look so bad in a few years, all they need is a strong draft this year so they hit on all those early picks and a qb who can manage the game for now...Jobs always look bad when the franchise is down but they can turn around in a matter of seasons

Personally I think we are much better off than Miami if they did not have Parcells. They have almost no building blocks, where as we have some young, talented players.
Are the Vikings really interviewing Leslie Frazier or is it a mistake by the NFLNetwork?

It's hard to say, but considering the work he's done with the defense while he's been here, he should be able to take that template to improve the Falcons defense. The team as a whole, I don't know.

Jay Glazer just said that the Redskins would have given their job to Jim Mora Jr, but he pulled his name out of consideration because he'll have the Seahawks job when Holmgren retires.

If only Jim Mora coached as well as he talked. His resume' is lousy for someone who garners so much interest around the league.

Jay Glazer mentioned a "mystery" candidate that might get an interview for the Washington gig... Any guesses? A college coach?

Well he took a pretty mediocre Falcons team to the NFC title game. That alone will get him a 2nd chance, particularly in a pretty uninspiring coaching market like this.

They were mediocre, but there was only one good team in the NFC that year. They beat an 8-8 team to make said NFCCG. For being a "defensive coach" his units have been mediocre at best.

His unit in San Francisco wasn't all bad, considering the amount of money spent on them.
In Atlanta he did well with what he had, in 04 that division wasn't exactly difficult though with Carolina collapsing to injuries, New Orleans still being lead by Aaron Brooks and Tampa trying to find themselves.
In 05 they ran into a better division in Carolina and Tampa and lost a few key players early on and in FA.
The thing I liked least about Mora though was the **** he let his team get away with, all the time it seemed like Atlanta was picking fights on the field for no apparent reason and he didn't do anything to discourage it.

Since the Giants just advanced to the Superbowl, do you think Coughlin earned a contract extension? If so, how long would you expect him to get extended? I just thought it was funny how he was almost fired in the offseason and now he's in the SB.

Its not unheard of and to be honest I'm not making a decision either way until I see how he coaches against belichick.
He still got outcoached in 05 by Fox and got his ass kicked again in 06 by a lot of what you'd consider decent if unspectacular coaches.
I think he's earned it but with the Giants it might be time to transition to another era while the main nucleus is still young.

I don't know why, but I'm listening to the new Falcons GM's press conference, this guy comes off as a total idiot. Even as far as intro-press conferences go he doesn't seem like he has a clue of what is going on.
When you add in the fact that he was hired off of a power point presentation......eh......I really question that Arthur Blank has any clue what he's doing. This is the NFL, not Home Depot.
"I mean...let me first start by saying, I mean..obviously Michael Vick is an incredibly talented athlete and quarterback..and I will say say now given the issues presently now, I truely, honestly, believe that we're moving forward, we're about heading in the right direction, we're about not..umm...not...sort of remaining in the past...sort of...let's look forward in any of these issues that we've had in Atlanta and we'll address those situations when time permits".
I mean....WHAT!?!?!?! My brain is trying to escape from my eardrum. I feel sorry for Falcons fans, you just hired an 8th grader to lead your franchise.

I'm guessing an ex-NFL coach. I'll say Jim Fassell or Denny Green.

Coughlin earned an extension when he beat Tampa. However, I think he may have just earned an extra year or two on it with these last two wins.
What I'm scared about is Atlanta hasn't named a coach yet. They really want to interview Spagnuolo apparently. I think he is allowed to interview this week according to the NFL's rules. But I wouldn't be suprised if he turned it down again. He already turned down an interview after the Tampa win when he was allowed to. It's not that Spags doesn't want the job, he is just too focused right now on the Giants. I dunno if the Falcons will wanna wait another two weeks to interview him.

At this point why would Gregg Williams even want this job. Washington has done everything they can to not give it to him.
