It's on espn.com if you want to check it out; Mangini announced it

Was it even a consideration for New York to not start him?

It's a deserving nod, but I'm surprised Mangini named it so early. I just thought of him as the guy that would try motivational ploys to push his guys, although he might've been worried that not having Pennington as the starter could cost him support from the locker room vets.

The first thought that went through my head when I saw this thread was "Why do I care?"

Eh, I was always a big fan of the whole every spot is open thing, but I suppose Mangini knows what he's doing, even if I'm not the biggest fan of Chad. Hopefully now that he doesn't have to spend the offseason rehabbing he can actually use the time to get better.

I don't know why everyone rips on Pennington so much, it shouldn't even be a question that he is the starter. I know he has a pretty weak arm for NFL standards, but he's still a damn good QB. There are plenty of QB's out there that suck and people keep making excuses for them, but Pennington gets it done every year (never been below 80 qb rating in a season as a starter) and continues to get ripped.

it never should have been a question. Everyone and their mother thought that he would be replaced sometime last year and he almost got them to the playoffs.

We did get into the playoffs....lost in the 1st round though.
Pennington doesnt deserve heat and this was a well expected move though I wouldent be surprised to see Clemens starting sometime soon.

I would rather he kept rehabbing and working on his arm strength... other than his arm strength, he's one of the best QB's in the NFL.
