Oh well, Harris was really a lesser version of what we hope Franklin is. (Then again, Franklin hasn't yet looked even a quarter of what we hoped he was.)

This really opens up the job for Lacy to be a workhorse. Could see 250ish touches this year.

On another sad note, Mason Crosby just locked up his job. Went 14 for 14 in a kicking competition with two makes from 60+. Zach? ...6 for 16...... Yeah, no.

It would have had to have been the opposite for Zach to have ANY shot at displacing Crosby, now I don't even see why we'd keep him on for the last preseason game as he isn't even true competition. It'd make more sense to drop him and bring in a guy like the "kickalicious" dude that actually made some preseason kicks already.

But at this point, it doesn't matter. We all know TT and McCarthy have been pulling for Crosby and his current streak is, what, 25 of 26? Including 3 60+ makes? Only miss from 50+? Too bad he chokes up in actual game situations.

Too bad for Harris.

As far as the running game goes, as long as Rodgers stays healthy we will not see the strategy employed by Seattle in the regular season very often. They brought the 8th man down and challenged Harrell to throw. I think we (and Vince Young) can actually thank the Seahawks for showing TT and McCarthy what it would look like if Harrell actually had to play for an extended stretch.

Once the regular season starts teams are going to go back to dropping bodies into coverage and daring the Packers to run the ball. If at that point Lacy is still getting no room to run we can officially panic.

Lol Zach Ramirez cut.

Crosby is the kicker again. Just terrible. Niners had a kicking problem last year with Akers, they quickly fixed that by immediately signing Phil Dawson shortly after the season ended. That's how you get it done. Now we get another year of Crosby going through stretches where he'll miss like 6 of 7 kicks from ANY distance and horribly missing 50+ yard FG's routinely, setting opposign teams up in great FP

Bulaga, Harris, Dorsey and Reed were placed on IR. Sherrod, Tretter, Richardson and Worthy were placed on PUP. That was all of the moves the team made to get down to 75

Havard Rugland, recently cut by Detroit, would be a worthwhile addition but I doubt the team brings in any other kickers.

Nope. I pretty much always suspected that this was more of a ploy to light a fire under Crosby than real interest in replacing him. Now if one of the kickers they brought in had been lights out it would have been hard to continue with that plan, but that is also likely why no established kickers who became available were brought in (Carpenter as an example).

ackers K Mason Crosby has agreed to a contract restructure.
Crosby was scheduled to earn a $2.4 million base salary this season. But after going a brutal 21-of-33 (58.8 percent) last year and continuing to struggle through camp, he's now an incentive-based player. He'll get a $800K salary and can make up the $1.6 million through roster bonuses and performance goals
Would have been better if they dumped him and found a replacement, but this isn't that bad either. Now they don't have very much financially tied to Crosby, and now he either makes kicks to make his money or he's easily dumped.

I think this is a great step in the right direction. All along they've done everything short of throw Crosby a parade to boost his confidence and this is the first move that actually says "seriously bro, you're this close to hitting the streets." We all know that the "competition" was a farce. Tav doesn't have NFL caliber leg strength. Ramirez is a broken kicker. If we replace Crosby it'll be with a proven vet, 100% guaranteed.

Now if we lose the 49ers game because he misses two or three field goals it'll hurt but we can dump him basically free of charge and move on. And it looks like the packers are finally prepared to do so if he doesn't do his job.

Joe McKnight just tweeted that he's heading to GB

no clue if it's for a tryout or if the Packers have signed him. If they signed him, not sure who that is bad news for: Jeremy Ross or perhaps Franklin?

I can't see this team giving up on Franklin so soon....and seeing how they used Ross in the 4th preseason game, I'd ahve to think it's him who should be worrying. McKnight would take over return duties and would probably be the change of pace back

Thinking this is bad news for Ross or Starks

Edit: Being confirmed that he's heading to GB for a WORKOUT, so they haven't signed him yet

Johnathan Franklin has nothing to worry about. He has consistently been placed behind an offensive line that has two (Newhouse and Van Roten) questionable NFL caliber players and a bunch of guys headed for a practice squad. I think the team did a disservice to him this preseason in giving him zero looks with the first unit.

Even with that being said, Franklin hasn't looked very good. If our RBs weren't Eddie Lacy and a bunch of guys who should be cut, he'd have a whole lot to worry about.

Worked out Rugland today. Seem to be building a short list to replace Crosby if he falters.

Speculating but the McKnight interest tells me they want to keep Walker and don't think he'll make it through waivers. Walker has impressed more as a WR but doesn't bring the return skills. They could sign McKnight dump Ross and Starks.

Or they want to dump Alex Green. He was supposed to be a kick returner and he just sucks at everything.

Lacy, Franklin, Starks, McKnight makes slightly more sense. McKnight has actually been a mediocre/average runner and an above average to pretty good kick returner. Green has been neither.

FB Michael Robinson was released by Seattle. He'd prob be a better lead blocker than Kuhn

really don't get why they kept Kuhn

I wonder who our second quarterback will be to start the season. BJ Coleman has no business making a 53 man roster.

That's the rub. Was VY great? No, but I didn't see anything from Coleman that indicated he was ready to come off the practice squad.

I have a long-standing theory that the Packers shot-callers think they're good enough to survive a short-term injury to Rodgers; but if he has a serious injury, their plan is to just tank and get a higher draft pick.

Not a bad theory. The Spurs-Duncan strategy.

I think I called the Alex Green -> McKnight thing. Let's see if we sign Joey.

Mulligan getting cut was surprising to me. I thought he had looked like our best run blocker at TE. Maybe they think Quarless still has "it" even if we haven't seen anything from him yet this year?

Who is going to be our backup? Jeez. The Tebow thing is a funny thought but we would have just kept VY if we wanted a running QB with weird throwing issues.
