Anyone think Worthy's spot on the roster is in jeopardy?
This guy has shown absolutely nothing.

If Teddy was to bring in a guy like Houston, at DE, with Raji at NT brought back, and you also have Datone and Jolly, with Boyd.... I can see Worthy being let go if he doesn't show anything, again, in camp.

This guy might be one of those rare mistake picks.
I know the torn ACL is a partial excuse, but he was no better than an UFA the first 16 weeks of his rookie season, before that torn ACL in the HumptyDump.

Nice!

Clicking the link gives me surprise Insider access.

Some odd rankings considering his grades on Bethea vs Byrd and Shields way down the list. He does love EDS.

Worthy could be gone, Sherrod too, although it'd be nice to see Sherrod live up to his potential and give us the swing tackle Newhouse couldn't be.

Did you see McShay's new 1st round mock here?
http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft...raft&version=3

Pryor & Clinton-Dix gone in the first 15 picks.
ILB Mosely also gone.

Who would the Packers pick in that scenario?
He has us stealing TE Eric Ebron in his scenario here.
Personally, I'd rather re-sign Finley and draft help on defense.
But Ebron could be a stud. Still though. I want immediate help and rarely do TE's (even in round 1) boost a team to new levels like LB's or S's do.

We saw how much better Harrison Smith and Kenny Vacarro made their defenses right away. Same at ILB with Kuechly, Alonso, and that bast@rd in Seattle. So I really do not want to see any offensive player with our #1 pick.

Don't have Insider so I can't see how the rest of the mock played out, but I'm in agreement that TE shouldn't be a 1st round target. They've liked Bostick for a while and if he had not gotten injured I feel like he would have shown why at the end of last season. I think they should add a TE but there are others that will provide better value in later rounds.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette reports the Packers have made a "meaningful offer" to free agent DL/OLB Mike Neal.

I think Ebron is the only exception to us going defense in the first.

Ebron could be Vernon Davis.. except taller. He's explosive with good hands and amazing all around receiving ability. He also is underrated as a blocker as he had some good tape there when putting in the effort.

If both safeties are gone and Mosley is gone, and no one surprising on defense has dropped, Ebron is kind of a no brainer. If you're not getting better, you're getting worse. Ebron is a difference maker.

With that said, I still hope we get Haha or Mosley.

I hope Neal is back cheaply. I thought he did well with such a drastic transition and is a nice chess piece as a pass rusher.

Also curious how most FA rankings don't like Shields as much as we do.

Why? Read they also have interest in bringing Quarless back

Not a fan of this. Only FA's realy worth bringing back are Shields and Jolly....and Jones if the price is right

Free agency begins today (players can't sign until Tuesday), and despite the speculation, I expect the Packers to once again have a quiet March.

Phil Costa is a player I expect the team to target. He has some versatility (center/guard), has experience at center and will be relatively cheap (no more than $1.5 million/year).

Agreed. I think we lose all of the guys we've "tried" to keep and sign no one significant. Finley is the biggest name and only significant free agent I think we have a shot at signing.

No Byrd. No Ward. No one. Maybe some fringe backup types but no starters.

Shields cap number this year is $5.6 mill so the Packers have a good $28 mill in cap space left

And I remember some Packer fans this spring, I mean winter, scoffing at the notion of Sam getting close to $8 million a year. Wow.

Rosenhaus won this one.

But good for us to keep him.
I hope we can still add one or two decent outside FA's, safety especially.

We paid a little extra to keep Shields, especially for this year, and I am fine with that. The deal is essentially a 2 year deal and if the Packers feel he hasn't lived up to the contract then they can rid themselves of him and if he plays up to the level he displayed this year then they'll have a steal for years two through four.

Yep

they're paying a 26 year old CB who has shown flashes of top tier play and banking on getting him as he continues to improve. Pay for future production

Also, I'm now wondering if they even sign a Safety. I'd love Chris Clemons. Probably get him on a reasonable deal, but I think this move clearly means that Hyde will be working more at Safety. They've got Tramon/Shields makin a pretty coin this year

They definitely need to add some people to the DL, and I' still holding out hope they improve at ILB

come draft, maybe they are in a position to draft a Safety.

Shields/Tramon/Hayward/House at CB with Hyde/Burnett at Safety has potential. Add a Safety in the draft to compete and be quality depth to Hyde/Burnett

Well, cross off one of my dreams for an off-season UFA signing!
I loved this guy, was told he wouldn't command THAT much $.
I guess I was right about his ability. He's everything we dream Perry or Neal would become:

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10...5-million-deal

Quote:
The Minnesota Vikings have re-signed defensive end Everson Griffen to a five-year contract worth $42.5 million, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The deal includes $20 million in guaranteed money, according to the source.

The 26-year-old Griffen hasn't turned his considerable potential into a breakout season yet, but he's shown hints of being an impressive pass rusher.

Griffen had seven sacks in 2012, filling in at both end spots and rushing from a defensive tackle spot on third downs. Griffen also dropped into coverage to intercept St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford in a Week 15 game during the 2012 season, bringing the interception back 29 yards for a touchdown in a key victory for the Vikings' playoff chances.

Griffen also secured the Vikings' first victory of 2013 by sacking Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, forcing a fumble that ended Pittsburgh's potential game-tying drive in Week 4.

I think all numbers are going up with the cap higher than expected and presumed to be even higher in 2015 and 16.

The market is a booming.

Also, I think Shields was being vastly underrated by statistic pushers. We all watched Shields. How many long passes were completed on him where he had perfect coverage expecting over the top help? The Jeffery long TD sticks out to me.

Shields is young, fast, good size and great ball skills. If we had lost him, there would have been zero chance of improvement on D this year.

I think we can definitely count out Byrd, though. Apparently.turned down a 30 mil 3 year deal.

I'd most like to see us get Vinny Rey and hope Haha falls to us

What do u guys think about Mike Mitchell from the panthers, The panthers had a really good Def last season and i thought Mitchell played pritty well and i think he would come much cheaper than Byrd from Buffalo.
