I bet we sign one of the 2nd tier O-Lineman, there are a lot of them in this year's class of free agents.

Maurice williams as RT/RG and Grady Jackson would be my bet.

On top of that id love Stacy Andrews at RG and Michael Turner. Im very confident with the 1st 2 though

How do you think that will affect our draft? Will we still draft a RT/RG for the future? And will we draft a UT for the future as well? Grady Jackson's prime years has past him, but I too believe that he is still a very solid veteran DT. Why the Falcons cut him is beyond my thinking.

I'd be very happy to have Michael Turner too. Hard runner who seems to find a way to gain yards no matter what.

It's too tough to speculate, cause we don't know all the cuts that are going to be made. Its a frustrating time of year for knowing anything.

Well for me it probably wouldnt effect it to much, i just wouldnt draft two OTs, id take one high but, with the F/A's, not take a 2nd day all potential tackle, somthing i would do with the current team. The RB need would be the only one that would be filled and even then i am not keen on drafting one in the 1st 2 rounds unless Maddenhall or Stewart magically fall to the 2nd.

Our O line would be

LT (Nicks or Long) LG Blalock C Mclure RG Stacey Andrews RT Maurice Williams

So id still want a Franchise LT. In this situation as well as having a potential great starting group youd also have great depth which is important. You would have Todd Wiener who is very capable at LT and RT and could very well keep his starting RT sport over Maurice Williams, OR start at LT while the rookie settles in. Then you would have Tyson Clabo very talented at all O Line postions. Id just bring em all in and let them battle it out.

The D line would be the Same. Imagine the Depth and damage caused by our 5 potential DT's - NT Grady Jackson Sedrick Ellis UT Rod Coleman Jon Babenaux with Trey Lewis getting time at UT and NT.

And remember the trenches is the philosophy of Mike Smith & Thomas Dimitroff so this is all very possible and would be IMO very successful

For the sake of this installment, we have designated teams that are less than $5M under the cap in RED. These are teams that have little money to sign free agents and may need to make cuts or restructure salaries in order to sign all of their draft picks. Note without comment that the only team that is OVER the cap (as of this writing) is the Washington Redskins! Teams in BLACK, which are between $5M and $20M under the cap, are teams that look to be in pretty good shape in terms of adding more veterans and signing all of their rookies without having to take drastic measures. Teams in GREEN are teams that are well under the cap and should have plenty of room to sign free agents and rookies. Note that for the first time in years, almost every team in is very good cap shape.

With the latest extension to the CBA, the 2008 salary cap is approximately $116 M, which represents a nice increase over last year's estimated $109 M figure. (Note that the cap was "just" $85.5 M in 2005, the final season prior to the CBA's extension and $102 M in 2006 after the CBA extension.)

Keep in mind that these numbers remain tentative -- and are changing on a daily basis. These "unofficial" figures are approximate as of December 27, 2007 and were compiled from various media sources including the NFLPA, ESPN and Sports Illustrated.

Damn. Lots of positions to fill through draft and FA. Looks like we really are starting pretty much from scratch. New era with Mike Smith and TD.

Corey Williams would be an ideal addition I think. He would be a big, strong DT to fit into Mike Smith's defense.

Michael Turner, Jamal Lewis, Derrick Ward, Chris Brown, Julius Jones... There are a lot of Running Backs available who could do well in a committee situation.

Randall *** is a UFA and he is a former Patriot would fit nicely in Smith's scheme at CB. It would be insurance in case Chris Houston doesn't improve.
Ken Hamlin and Gibril Wilson are intriguing Safeties.

I would like the addition of Corey Williams.

Jamal Lewis, Derrick Ward, and Chris Brown are also guys I like. They may not be Turner, but they are less expensive.

Not a huge fan of Randall ***. Would love to sign Gibril Wilson though.

Eh. His best fit is under tackle, even if he can play all of the positions on the line. I think somebody bigger would be better, and if we wanted a player like him then Pat Sims from Auburn in round two is a clone.

I like Turner and Ward, they are the only ones who I think have the mix of youth and talent we need.

*** is very overrated, he gets beat every game I watch him play.

How so? He didn't really do anything last year, he was a 6th round draft pick... I am not sold on him yet at the NCB position, especially as the only real depth behind Hall and Houston (who hasn't proven jack either..).

irons and houston played badly last season. period. how can you tell a player is promising when they're drawing dumb penalties and houston seems to get lost when trying to cover a legitimate receiver. sure he did get picked on because dhall was on the opposite side, but i expected better performances from him.

You can expect better from rookies, and have outlandish expectations, but I don't. Irons is very promising...there's a reason he won SEC DB of the year...over our beloved Houston. Houston had one incredible game, and he showed that he has the ability to play in the league...Irons played well on ST and has plenty of promise.

I think CB is a very underrated need. I think DeAngelo Hall leaves in the next few years, and we really don't have a nickel. Hard to address that positon with so many immediate needs, though.

I think Hall will be here for another 5 year deal...but that's just my guess.

Houston showed great promise towards the end of the season. David Irons is nothing more than a dime back. We desperately need a nickel back, preferentially from the free agent pool.

He got destroyed by Torry Holt and Anquan Boldin.
