Patriots mock draft 03/15
Put your own mock draft for the pats if you want and give me some feedback about the pick or the trades. I did the trade to get the players I would want if I was Belichik and I try to make them possible.
At first, the Patriots swap picks in round 1-2 with the Saints. #7 and 63 for #10 and 41. NO has to go before Baltimore to select Mckelvin.
# 10: Our two biggest needs are LB and CB, but since there isn’t any DB worthy of this pick, we take Keith Rivers. Thomas and Vrabel are true OLB while Seau and Bruschi are aging, so we must take Rivers and play him at ILB. He has had a great career at USC and was dominant at the senior bowl all week long. He’s a leader on the field who plays with intensity and is respected for his off the field conduct. For me the only cornerback, I could consider taking him is Dominique Rogers Cromartie, but he’s too much unproven to take him that high.
Just before Carolina, the Patriots trade their 2009 1st round pick and their 2nd round pick of 2008 (#41) for the 15th pick of the draft from Detroit and their 5th round pick.
#15: With this pick they pull the trigger on Dominique Rogers Cromartie, a prototypical cornerback who’s got everything you look for, speed, leaping ability and hands with a lot of potential. Cornerback is a big need and DRC is a great risk to take considering the facts that the depth of next year draft isn’t considered really good.
#67: With the raiders pick at 68, we could draft Michigan linebacker Shawn Crable, he’s still raw but could develop into a great OLB in the Backerhood with his great mix of speed and size.
#94: Dre Moore is the right pick if he’s still available. He could play DE or NT in our scheme and even if he’s a risky pick, depth is always needed here.
#126: If he’s still available Brad Cottam is a big and fast TE who could really help in the running game and in the red zone.
#142: Justin Forsett, the successor of Kevin Faulk, a typical 3rd down guy who’s small but shifty and built stronger than we might think. He has a good week at the Senior bowl. Other possibility is CB Antwaun Molden who's also big and fast.
#158: OT Barry Richardson could be a steal if we draft him there and developed him. He’s got athleticism and size that you look for but he’s not consistent and need to be train. He has really good potential and could replace Kascur at RT who is really the weakest point of our OL at short term while improving and taking LT spot later. Kind of what San Francisco did with Staley this year.
CB from Missouri, Darnell Terrell, 6-2 and 4,45 speed, we must take a chance with him, he’s raw and wasn’t really productive but has great potential and we need depth at DB. Terrell could play CB or be moved at S.
Time to take a chance, CB Brian Witherspoon from Stillman, he hasn’t been invited to the combine and he’s really small but he’s fast really fast. He played for a small school but has good production and he has a lot of potential.
