Default Draft grades on the 07 draft

Were the Giants best with all 8 picks making the roster and 5 starters at sometime during the season? The Vikes with Peterson, 49ers with Willis?

Its still too early to tell for the Steelers...Lawrence Timmons didnt get much playing time so he is still an unknown...Lamarr Woodley had 4 sacks in about 6 snaps, and also 2 sacks in the playoff game he started (i.e. he is a man beast, who will eat you!)...Matt Spaeth caught a few TD's, and should be a solid No2 behind heath miller for years...Sepulveda was good as a rookie punter...Ryan McBean didnt get any playing time, but he could contribut next season...William *** played great as our no3/4 CB, he should hold down the nickel spot for some time...Dallas Baker will battle it out in camp, he could be the big target Ben is looking for. Overall a solid draft for the Steelers.

In my eyes the fact that we drafted Woodley makes it an A+++ :)

Well, i dont like our draft at all. We drafted undersized LB in the 3 rd round and did cut him shortly after. Branch was injured, Breaston was average and Patrick saw limited playing time. Levi Brown played ok while he was healthy.

Russell's grade is obviously incomplete. Miller did well for a rookie in a bad offense (44 rec, 444 yds, 3 TDs) and he seemed to get better as the season went on. Moses obviously is an F. Henderson is an incomplete. Higgins is incomplete. Bush is an incomplete. Bowie is incomplete. Jay Richardson--so far a B, but we'll see where he goes from here. Frampton--F. O'Neal--A. Jonathan Holland--INC.

Grade--INC. Oren O'Neal and Richardson seem like good value picks and the kind of players that good teams need as roster fillers (not all starters can be All-Pro). O'Neal was a large reason for the success of the Raiders' running game last year. He was very good as a lead blocker. He needs a little help as a receiver though. Richardson provided a little pressure on the QB, but he was much more valuable against the run. He continued to get better as the season went on. And Zach Miller is a guy who can be a pretty good TE in the league I feel. For the guys that we can grade--B-/C+. Moses as a 3rd round pick not making it out of preseason hurts a lot.

Factoring in the trade for McCown and Williams for a 4th--C+/C.

In all honesty, it is ridiculously early to grade this. Even the guys who performed could turn into a Michael Clayton and fall off the face of the earth after a good rookie campaign.

i'll go out on a limb and give the G-men an A+ right now. I mean, the contributions from everyone in that draft was outstanding. Each pick played a big role with the exception of our 6th round OT Adam Koets

These were consensus grades before the season, the ratings now are my opinion

Giants Draft 2007
Rating before season: B
Rating now: A+

Aaron Ross CB/KR Texas- Pick # 20
Grade before season: B
Grade now: B+/A-

Ross was thought to only be a first rounder because he was a KR, but he proved to be worth even more than our pick on CB play alone. He wasn't a starter at first, after a few games he was given a chance and proved he could more than handle a starting job. He tackled well, blitzed and pressured well, covered well, he was more than we hoped for.

Steve Smith WR USC- Pick # 51
Grade before season: B/B-
Grade now: B/B+

Smith was injured for the entire season pretty much, but when he finally got in in the playoffs, he showed moments of greatness. He wasn't really flashy, but he got the job done. He originally had a case of the dropsies but later had some exciting catches. Going from College competition to Playoff competition is hard and he preformed admirably.

Jay Alford DT Penn State- Pick # 81
Grade before season: C+
Grade now: B-/B

Alford was originally thought to be a reach. He actually wanted to come to the giants (being a New Jersey native). While filling a DT need, he also could long snap. He didnt see much time early in the season, but later when he did he did a good job pushing the pocket and causing the QB to move out of the pocket as well. He didn't have a huge part in our SB run, but he did have a great play, getting past two Pats OL to sack Brady.

Zak DeOssie LB Brown- Pick # 116
Grade Before season: C/C+
Grade after season C+/B-

DeOssie was also tied to the giants, his father played for us. He wanted to come to us, he could longsnap, and he provided depth at two LB spots. He didnt play on the Defense, but he was a great contributor in Special teams. He originally had the long snapping duties but lost them to Alford, but when he was long snapping, he was the first guy to get downfield.

Kevin Boss TE Western Kentucky- Pick # 153
Grade before season- C-/C
Grade now: B

Boss had a case of the dropsies in the beginning of the season, but stepped it up when Shockey got injured. He wasn't amazing but got the job done, and ran his routes correctly allowing Manning to have some stability (shockey ran bad routes). He became reliable target for Eli. He also changed the momentum in the superbowl when turning a small catch over the middle into a long play. He is more of a recieving TE, but has the frame, athleticism, and enough speed to become a good all around TE.

Adam Koets OT/OG Oregon State - Pick # 189
Grade before season: D+/C-
Grade now: C-

Koets really was a depth pick, and we knew that he'd be a project. He is still on the team and that alone is a feat in itself.

Michael Johnson S Arizona- Pick # 224
Grade before season: C/C+
Grade now: B/B-

Johnson slipped from a midround pick into our laps. He contributed on Special teams, and when he had to start due to injury he performed well. He was a reliable tackler (saved a TD off a screen against CHI that wouldve won it for them) and was great at blitzing. He however blew alot of coverages. He could possibly start for us at SS in a year, and maybe even at FS this year.

Ahmad Bradshaw RB Marshall- Pick # 250

Bradshaw was only drafted this low because of his supposed character issues which came from withholding info to help his friend, and a DUI. If it weren't for that, he wouldve been a mid round pick. In preseason you had to know that he was something special from watching. He didn't get alot of chances, and originally wasn't even our KR, but once he did, he blew everyone away. He almost always makes the first guy miss. One thing is for sure, next year he'll be getting his chance.

UDRFA- Craig Dahl S North Dakota State

He started a game or two for us and contributed in Special teams, he would still be on the team if it wasn't for him having an injury that made him miss the rest of the season.

Geoffrey Pope CB Georgia

He was picked up and was forced to play against dallas because of injury. He was actually matched up against TO, and helped us pick up the W

If this draft isnt an A+ than i really don't know what is. We hit on every single pick and even got two decent players in FA. They all didnt get a great opportunity in the begining of the season, but as the season went on they all shined. They were all a force in our playoff run, and made alot of the stand out or defining plays of our season.

I think the Buccaneers had a pretty solid draft. Gaines Adams, Tanard Jackson and Arron Sears look like they will be able to hold down their positions as starters for quite some time. Sabby Piscitelli and Quincy Black didn't get much time due to injury or being buried behind Derrick Brooks/Cato June but hopefully they too will come in and contribute. The rest of the picks were crappy.

Here's our 2007 draft class.

1 32 Anthony Gonzalez WR Ohio State
2 42 Tony Ugoh T Arkansas
3 95 Dante Hughes CB California
3 98 Quinn Pitcock DT Ohio State
4 131 Brannon Condren DB Troy State
4 136 Clint Session LB Pittsburgh
5 169 Roy Hall WR Ohio State
5 173 Michael Coe CB Alabama State
7 242 Keyunta Dawson DT Texas Tech

With Gonzo we got a starter at WR and in the second round got our franchise LT to protect Peyton for the rest of his career. Pitcock started to come on strong in the second half of the season and figures to be in the DT rotation for the next several years. Sessions played well when he got into the lineup due to injuries esp during the funky regular season San Diego game. Dawson showed to be a great steal in the 7th round as a pass rush specialist on the inside. Most of the other guys didn't get to play or were hurt. Hall showed a lot of promise and figures to be in the mix this year.

So in all, we got two players who essentially played in most of the games, Gonzo and Ugoh. Pitcock and Dawson filled into the DT rotation with undrafted free agent gem Ed Johnson.

Anytime you can draft two starters and some other players to play key roles by filling in, that's a good draft. I'd give the Colts a B+ for the 2007 draft based on what we saw in '07.

I'll just grade my own Bengals, don't like grades exactly so I'll just do good/bad/incomplete.

1. Leon Hall - Took his lumps early but came on strong late in the year. Can't wait to see what he does. Very good pick, sures up our secondary for years to come and he latches onto the INT's.

2. Kenny Irons - Liked what I saw in camp, wish we could've seen him play and could've used him greatly. Incomplete due to injury.

4. Marvin White - Played late in the season and did a very adequate job. Good, promising pick.

5. Jeff Rowe - Won't ever play hopefully, don't like the idea of trying to groom a 5th round QB into a solid backup. We got Ryan Fitzpatrick in trade which is all we need.

6. Matt Toeina - I liked the pick, got released while we kept dinosaurs. Disliked the end result of him being let go... Wasted pick.

7. Chinedum Ndukwe - AMAZING PICK! Could be our TJ of the secondary, was a ball hawk... Smart player/hard tackler/good guy, will start opening game. Flat out made plays when he was in. Best pick of the draft.

Love the Hall/Ndukwe picks.
Like the White pick, definetely could end up loving it.
Disliked Toeiana/Rowe.

Notice how I listed the names in the following order: Sabby then Quincy. I then referred to two different situations: lack of playing time due to injury and lack of playing time due to being buried on the depth chart.
