Patrick Chung brings it. Really, a player I would love to have. Great physical safety with some athleticism and tons of intangibles. Fits the Rodney Harrison, Lawyer Milloy mold.

Him, Bruton, and Delmas are my top three safties.

I like Chung too.

I think that for S, we may well sit where we are in the 2nd and just see who falls. I wouldn't be upset with anyone of Delmas (v. unlikely), Moore (unlikely), Chung (very possible), Johnson (very possible), Bruton (likely) (or even, perhaps, Vaughan, though he's more of a 3rd rounder IMO).

Then that 2nd rounder will be given the chance to compete with DeCoud and Fudge. Out of competition comes success, as we showed last year. (Being a lawyer specialising in Competition (Antitrust) Law, I have to say that!)

As for our first round pick, I expect that to be either a CB or an OLB (or TE if and only if Pettigrew falls to us).

Scott finally made a mock I really like for the Falcons. Larry English is a good pick considering who is available, and he probably has less bust potential than Jamaal Anderson did (well, he was all boom or bust). Good size and burst, and a cool name.

Patrick Chung is also a player I obviously like.

I would love that combination to start out the draft, fixing, in my opinion, our two positions of biggest need.

Yeah. Get right to work on the defense filling 2/3 of our holes. Another pass rusher is excellent, considering we tend to get leads and the other team ends up passing as a result.

So far, I think our first round pick will most likely be Larry English or Clay Matthews. Maybe Brandon Pettigrew if LJ Smith doesn't sign (what is his deal?)

Yeah, I think one of the USC linebackers is a possibility as well. Defensive end is much harder to find, though.

Johnson dazzled the crowd of more than 40 NFL executives and personnel men Monday, including Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff, head coach Mike Smith and Carolina head coach John Fox. Johnson even stayed around to run some pass routes as a tight end for quarterbacks Calvin Booker and Taylor Bennett.

Johnson ran the 40-yard dash in 4.59 seconds, with one team — the Detroit Lions — clocking him at 4.49. That was substantially faster than the 4.66 he ran at the NFL scouting combine in February.

“There is no surprise that Michael Johnson is a heck of an athlete, a heck of a physical specimen,” Dimitroff said. “Things will work out very well for him well in the National Football League, not to mention a number of other players on the Georgia Tech football team.”

I still want this man.

ATL, I've been with you on Michael Johnson for a long time. Watching GT's every game, i really like him. I don't know why his motor is being questioned, because i saw it on every play. He will get double teamed a lot, and has lined up as a RDE and LDE, which is great for our scheme. I would love him and John Abraham together. He was more productive than people give him credit for.

Something else I just read.

Johnson weighed 266-pounds and presently measures 3% body fat. He ran his forty in times which ranged from 4.52-to-4.59 seconds. Johnsonís ten time was 1.54-seconds.

Man, I'd love to have him on the team. Abe and Hamilton would work wonders.

I still think the chances of Michael Johnson busting are sky high. I don't want another boom or bust DE.

yea but MJ is the exact opposite of Jamaal Anderson. The athleticism is not even close. MJ actually has the speed and quickness to get by the OT. He's too special physically to pass up.

Bull. Jamaal was touted as an athletic freak coming out. Not like Peppers or Mario Williams, but an outstanding athlete none the less.

I never said he wasn't. All they talked about Jamaal Anderson was his athletic ability for his size when he was coming out. I said, that comparing is not even close, because MJ's athleticism is way better.

yeah Anderson was overhyped with his speed. Like i mentioned before, that year I didnt follow the draft as much, but from what I heard and what Ive seen, its two different things. Anderson has speed, but after watching Johnson, its not a comparision. And Im not even saying I want Johnson or that he will be great... im just saying MJ to me has a better shot at being good in this league than Anderson has

JA was touted as a poor mans Mario Williams. His athleticism would have been excellent for any size defensive lineman.

Jamaal Anderson-
6'6" 288 4.75 32.5 VJ 10'8" BJ 4.22 20YS

Michael Johnson-
6'7" 266 4.75 38.5 VJ 9'8" BJ 4.37 20YS

Anderson was a beast in college. The issue was and is the inability to control his weight, leading to decreased explosion out of his stance.

Keep in mind, JA and Gaines Adams had near identical 10-yard dashes coming out into the draft.

The point stands. They both are/ were big time boom or bust prospects coming into the draft.

Then you really don't know what you are talking about.

I disliked the Anderson pick more than just about anybody on these boards, and bash him more than near anybody, but his athleticism was top notch coming out.

The only reason I liked him was because he was so big and was a great athlete. I'm not gonna lie, I liked the pick at the time. We just lost Patrick Kerney to Free Agency and we had a huge void at LDE, Jamaal Anderson fit perfectly.

Before the draft, all I wanted was Laron Landry. I wanted his so bad and I though he could have fell to our pick especially after we traded down a few spots.

My BB went like this...

1. Laron Landry
2. Adrian Peterson
3. Amobi Okoye
4. Jamaal Anderson

I was shocked as hell when we passed on Amobi Okoye*

... on the other post. Damn numbers can really fool someone. (I think you might have the BJ reversed, i remember MJ had a 10'8" or something) Watching Jamaal Anderson from game film is not the same as watching Michael Johnson. Jamaal didn't didn't play as fast as he was timed. He was projected to run like a 4.9. Johnson was projected to run in the 4.6-4.7 range because he plays fast.

I like what Scott Wright has given us.

I would really love Larry English and Patrick Chung.

If we could land Patrick Chung at #55, I would be extatic.

Anderson was always expected to time fast, which is why he came out early and for a time was the number one defensive end.

And yes I accidentally reversed the broad jumps.

Michael Johnson as a high second rounder wouldn't burst my bubble, but at 24 Im not a fan.

Honestly as of right now, Im not very keen on anyone at 24 other than possibly Pettigrew.

The holes at DE, S, OLB, NT for our defense are a b itch. Crappy year to need all of those positions. No real surefire guy at our value.

Sure English could be taken, Cushing, reach for Delmas, no way Brace is taken there either.

They are all good players, but seem to be in that 28-40 value not 24.

So basically what I am getting at is I hope to land Pettigrew at 24 or trade down to acquire another pick.

I never though Anderson would be good for us here i guess is what I am trying to say. After seeing the team pick him, I watched his highlights and felt like it was an awful pick when other defensive players that I felt would be better were left (Okoye, Patrick Willis).

And that's false. But I'm not going to argue. The big issues with Anderson were his consistency (like Mario Williams he was very hot and cold) and his work ethic. Both proved to be well warrented once he reached the league.

As far as that draft, the only two players I truly wanted were Adrian Peterson and LaRon Landry. I had us trading up two to three spots with a third round pick to grab one of the two, but instead we ended up with Jamaal Anderson.

Too bad the Vikings went with a RB despite signing a runningback to a big deal the year prior and him going for over 1,200 yards. And the Redskins went with a safety while most had them going defensive line.

provided scotts first two rounds, who do you guys think would be the best NT fit for us from round 3 or onwards?

I really like Follet as a SLB of the future in round 4

NTs is a position that really lacks talent and value after Raji this year. if fili falls to the third i wouldn't mind drafting him but he won't make an instant impact and be a starter imo.

Chris Baker profiles great as a NT in the 3-5 round range. But he has huge character issues.

Dude ran a 5 second flat 40 at 320 lbs

Michael Johnson has to be on the Falcons radar. They've discussed him. Who knows where they rank him.
