SRV was the best, but he was more of a blues guy than rock and roll. I voted for him anyway. haha

I know he isn't really on the same level as some of these guys but I have to give my tribute to Dime Bag Darrel. If any of you haven't heared Cemetary Gates, it's problem his living music legacy. Otherwise i'm goin' with Eric Clapton straight up, that fool can play anything. He's a badass like it or not.

I voted for Clapton, but Jimi is practically tied with him. I think Tom Morello should be on this list as well.

Jimi might be the greatest Rock and Roll guitar player, but Clapton can play so much more. Just listen to his variety of songs: The early ones from Cream, like Wrapping Paper and Sweet Wine, then the later Cream: White Room, Crossroads, then Blind Faith: Presence of the Lord, then Layla, then his solo stuff: I shot the sheriff, After Midnight, Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Wonderful Tonight, Promises, Tears in Heaven...I could go on and on.

Replace "The Edge" with Santana, and you have yourself a list worth talking about.

Those all rock, but being a guitar player, Jimi's stuff is so much harder, and he played his guitar UPSIDE DOWN !!! He had to use a lot of his brain and still put on an insane show!

Anyone with the name " The Edge " has to be cool, or so I thought before I found out this guy sucks. What insane lick has this guy made up to get him such a name as " The Edge "? He hasn't, this OLD guy just got himself a nickname to appeal to stupid little poser kids who would go " The Edge? What a sweet name, i'll take that CD. " Little do they realize that he is part of one of the worst bands ever. Bono and the rest of em are horrible also.

Since the question was just guitarist I have to say Jimi Hendrix but if it were overall muscian I'd go with Eric Clapton.

The Edge shouldnt even be anywhere near this list. In the time we are in now when half of the bands guitarists play chords The Edge still isnt even top 10. All of their songs sound the same. I'd much rather see someone like Jimmy Page be on their. And of course the big (underrated 3) Steve Vai, Malmsteen, Joe Satriani.
I agree with you a bit on Dimebag, I absolutely love Pantera and Dimebag. He is a great guitarist, easily one of the best of our era. But you know who could be listed as one of the best guitarists of every decade since the 60's? Eric Clapton. He can and does play anything. So he got my vote. While I love Hendrix and think he is great, he is overrated. He simply made sounds and did things that no one had before him. He was incredibly inivative. Don't get me wrong I think he is amazing, but many people have him listed as the far and away greatest guitarist of all time, easy to be a bit overrated with claims such as those.
