Maurice Clarett
After seeing the Ricky Williams thread, i began thinking: How good could Maurice Clarett have been in the NFL if he had stayed at OSU and kept himself out of trouble?

to be honest, i don't know if u can accurately say anything about him, because he wasn't in college very long, and he had no production what so ever in the NFL, it is pretty much impossible to know how he would have progressed throughout the process. I didn't see enough of him while he played to make even a small judgement, but my take is that there is really no way of knowing either way.

He never was that good to begin with and he is a headcase on top of that. He had a lot of yards and touchdowns, on a VERY good team, big deal. They are several RB's each year that put up similar stats and don't get drafted. That should have been the case with Clarett.

But he was the focal point of that offense, and a top recruit. If he wasn't a headcase, he could have been a Ricky Williams type of player.

Well he was amazing for the 3/4 of the one season he played that he was healthy. Behind the same line with the same offense Lydell Ross and Mo Hall looked pedestrian while Clarett was great. No one knows how good he'd have done but if he played like he did in the NFL during his freshman year at OSU then he would've been a superstud pro runningback- the only college back I've seen since 2002 with vision and a first step that good is Adrian Peterson. Natural selection tends to find a way to weed the idiots from in the world from being successful.

I think better one would be how good do you think Kajana Carter (mispelled it i think) would of been if he didnt get injured before his rookie season started he was the number 1 pick the year he came out and went to the Bengals, he had a lot of potential coming from Penn State.

How bout "How good do you think Ron Dayne would've been, if he hadn't been a fat, unmotivated, worthless, soft shelled snail?"

No one can really say for sure, he could of been the next Ron Dayne, great in college and nothing but average in the pros, so its purely speculation at this point, at least with Ricky we saw him perform at a high level in the NFL.

Come on now, do you only watch tOSU games? I liked Clarett alot, but thats singing his praises too much, I know you watched every game and were a fan, but you have nothing to back that up with...He doesn't even come to mind as having anywhere near a fast first step, let alone in the same breath as Peterson because its not even close to me.

No Clarrett could never have been as fat, soft and slow as Dayne.

I wouldn't have called Clarett a freakish talent while he was at Ohio State, but he was a very strong runner with fantastic change of direction skills and decent speed. If he didn't love vodka and guns and stealing, I think he at least would have been a fairly top notch prospect and at least a decent runner in the NFL.

I think he could have been an outstanding short yardage and touchdown specialist if he had stayed in shape and never gotten rusty.

Peterson was more explosive and played about 2 more years of college ball, but Clarett's first step through the hole was great, his vision is what was really eye catching though. Like I said, the only college back who did those two things as well as Maurice was Peterson. Peterson was faster and more explosive and ran outside the tackles a lot better, but Clarett was a better receiver.

Hell if he could have just eliminated one of those he might have had a career.
