Are there really Packer fans who don't want Favre back? They were inches from the Super Bowl last year! Who cares if Rodgers has been waiting, he's not going to win a title in his first year. With Favre they have a real shot; bring back Favre, trade Rodgers for a first day pick, and draft another QB. The old man ain't done.

I'm not denying Lord Favre's influence over many fans, but at leased we've had a QB half worthy of an ego in the last 20 years :)
Even if these particular rumors are false, his past history has shown nothing but a selfish, self-centered, over-dramatic, facetious, personality in need of constant acknowledgement and reassurance.

To even ignore the past 5 years where he's done this, you can look at comments by his family, his agent, his ex-teamates, etc., which show that he didn't really want to retire but felt that the Packers weren't stroking his dick enough for him to stick around. He's been built up to be this great guy by the media and Packers fans inspite of overwhelming personal and professional evidence against this.

He's a really funny guy, and a tremendous football player, but you're just being a delusional Packers fan if you think this type of behavior is antithetical to his personality. This is exactly the type of person that Favre is, and I'm almost certain that when there's smoke, there is fire in this case.

They made that game because of Favre, they also lost that game because of Favre. Why would next year be any different? Favre has a pretty mediocre record in the playoffs. That likely won't change in his 18th season.

Ive heard all of the arguments for not taking Favre back....
blah blah blah Aaron Rodgers needs his shot blah blah
blah blah the offense has been retooled in A-Rods favour blah blah
blah blah Brett cant keep jerking the team around

*cue packer homerism*
WHO CARES!? This is Brett Favre. The man is larger than life. This is the greatest player for the greatest franchise ever. And hes coming off of an unreal season and the team is Super Bowl ready. If Brett wants to come back let him come back. I have a hard time seeing any diehard Packer fan not wanting him to come back. This guy is Green Bay. He's so Green Bay that he has his own underground parking lot. If Brett wants to play I say we let him play.
*end packer homerism*

Ahhh that feels better. In all honestly I selfishly do want him back BUT I see why TT and the front office must be pissed. Theyve moved on without him and now they either have to scrap all of their offseason work and possibly ruin a 1st round picks development or face the biggest PR nightmare the state of Wisconsin has ever seen. Really tough spot Brett's putting them in... The easiest solution would be for him to stay retired but now that the possibility of a return is out there even the slightest hint of his return is going to get mass media coverage so this thing could spiral out of control.

Yeah Al Harris' poor play, and McCarthy's lack of faith in the run game had nothing to do with it.

Still I think BF51 brings up somewhat of a legitimate point.

Even though Favre has said that this is all rumors (which was weeks ago). If he really wanted to put this to bed, he would make sure it's known 100% he's not coming back. He has yet to do that, and therefore he is putting unecessary pressure on the organization and on Aaron Rodgers. His actions, or non-actions, right now give the impression that he is enjoying the spotlight and craving the media coverage.

McCarthy not running the ball was pretty ridiculous, but that game was essentially lost when Favre threw the ball directly to whatever scrub was playing corner for the Giants.

I should clarify, they didn't lose the game entirely because of Favre, but they probably could have done just as well with Rodgers, Brohm, or half of the other quarterbacks in the NFL.

You can bet your ass that they wouldn't have been throwin' if Favre wasn't there. Once again a coach feels obligated to put the legend on the pedestal.

God I hope Favre comes back. Please let this rumor be true. I have no doubt that the Vikings will crush him and then Packer fans can't fall back on the "It's Rodgers first year as a starter" excuse.

I'd still take him over Aaron Rodgers in a playoff game in a heartbeat. His mediocre playoff record still includes a Super Bowl victory and another appearance. He's obviously still got it.

Changing QBs is never, ever a sure bet. The Packers are clearly built to win now. Why not welcome him back with open arms? It makes no sense that the management has more loyalty to Aaron Rodgers at this point than Brett Favre. They should be campaigning for him to return and finish the job they came so close to last year, not hoping he retires in peace.

The Packers offense is clearly a pass first offense, they are going to toss the rock all day with Favre or without.

The only thing worst than all the "Favre come back" rumors is all the threads that pop up to cry about said rumors!

just kidding :) - But seriously, we should just make a thread specifically for Favre and put everything in there instead of starting a new thread for each Favre rumor written.

Side note:

Why do most of the packer fans keep acting as if there is NO CHANCE that he comes back?

Do comments made by his brother and mother hold no merit with you? Do you think they went behind Brett's back and made public comments about him which he would have preferred to keep private? His brother just thought he would throw out some "50-50" comment to stir the pot?

I mean come on, honestly, you know he sent the mother and brother to send out the message that he might want to come back. He is just letting them heat up the toilet seat.

I'm not saying he will come back, but I'd bet he wants to and using his family to feel out the situation and see where he stands with the fans and the team is a good way to save yourself from looking like a jack ass.

All solid points but still, Tom Brady, Michael Vick, Jake Delhomme, Derek Anderson, Philip Rivers, Eli Manning, and Tony Romo, Big Ben Roethlisberger all took their teams to the playoffs starting their first full season.

Jake Delhomme and Tom Brady reached a superbowl, Brady won and Delhomme came within three points.

Its not as if a QB can't come close to winning it all with a good supporting cast.

Rogers is a strong smart player with the arm to run that offense, with the supporting cast in place there's no real reason why they can't get over the hump with him at the helm. One could argue that having a QB that isn't Favre could lead to better coaching of the team because they feel they all need to be extra prepared and fight extra hard without number 4 at the helm.

It's interesting that King compares Favre to Damon should he leave for a division rival. A lot of people were pissed about that. But here we are a couple years later and it's no big deal. There is no love for Johnny Damon in Massachusetts, sure, but it's nothing big. King stating that it would be Johnny Damon "times five" doesn't even cut it in my opinion. There are things you don't do in sports (like what Damon did) and then there are things you don't do in sports. Brett Favre going to Minnesota or Chicage falls in the second category.

Imagine Brett Favre winning the SB in Minnesota though by beating the packers in the playoffs!

Four reasons why Favre will not play for any other team.

1. What team can take the cap hit from Favre's contract? and if they can do they need a qb or are they in the hunt?

2. Favre hates learning a new playboy, he hated it when we switch coaches, from Sherman to Mike, and will hate it now.

3. He has said he will not play for any other team but the Packers, thats a fact, all these rumors about him wanting to play for the Panthers are just rumors, fiction.

4. The OTA and Mini Camp are already over, this leaves Favre just training camp to learn the playbook and get know his teammates, I don't see that working out well for him.

if Favre goes anywhere but Green Bay he'll most likely destroy a part of his own legend.

You're right, he's got woman problems. And not the 'aunt flow' type either.
