He's gotten lucky and hasn't had a serious injury like a torn tendon in his knee or a broken large bone. Plus there's the push for him to start and might not know the system, (maybe causing more sacks?).

It wouldn't surprise me to see Coles fill the role as Favre's primary downfield threat.

If I were the Jets I'd bring in Koren Robinson for a work out and see if he can play at all. Favre had a nice connection with him in the short time he was on the team.

That's pretty much money. Very excited to see what Cotchery is going to be able to do this year, he may make a big step forward.

So, where to Mr. Pennington? Minnesota? Chicago? Kansas City?

Favre will definitely start Week 1. Pennington will have to be released (leaving Favre, Clemens, and Ainge,) and Clemens isn't starting Week 1. I wouldn't worry about that.

So yeah, NE @ NYJ, sick.

I would guess Pennington ends up on a team like Kansas City with a younger starting QB. I could also see Tennessee, Indianapolis, Detroit, or maybe even Atlanta. Just as possible landing grounds.

Maybe we believe Mangini is going to pick the quarterback that is more ready and knows the offense better. What affiliation does Mangini have with Favre that GUARANTEES you that he IS going to start week 1?

I'll GUARENTEE he starts week one. He isn't going to snap the consecutive game streak for one. Two it's against the dolphins, basically a 5th preseason game. Three Favre at 50% is still more than twice as good as a 100% Clemens.

Minnesota would have to take a very long look at Pennington I'm sure. Now that's a team one QB away from becoming a serious SB contender.

I don't think Minnesota gains anything with Penny they don't have with JDB or Frerotte.

As for Favre, as GB said, him knowing a handful of plays is better than Clemens knowing them all.

I think the Jets with favre will go 10-6 or 11-5 and will be a wild card team. Pennington to Chicago sounds like a good place for him.

Haha. Him in a game like last season's Packers@Bears with all that wind would be hilarious.

Soldier Field will eat Pennington's pass attempts and laugh.

I'd like him as a back-up to Peyton Manning, though. Although I like the addition of Quinn Gray this offseason, and Sorgi was signed to an extension last year (hardly prohibitive though).

I've felt since last year that Minnesota would be perfect for Penny, playing in a dome with their running game.

This isn't Madden. If Mangini ruins that consecutive starts record, Favre is gonna act up. We already saw the circus that started in Green Bay.

And you can be sure that the New York and national media will make a huge circus out of it. You don't trade for Brett Favre and not start him immediately.

I thought Chicago at first too, but Geo's right. Both about Soldier Field and Minnesota. Pennington is a game manager perfect for Minnesota's run heavy offense.

Why wouldn't Mangenius start Favre week 1? He gives the team its best chance to win, now Thomas Jones won't have to run against a stacked box for decreased gain.

The one negative to Penny starting in Minny is that, for as much as the Vikings grossly overpaid for Bernard Berrian, additionally his value as a deep threat would be muted a bit. And in similar vein, second-year player Aundrae Allison.

However Sidney Rice would be great for him to have, as a bigger receiver. And he can develop chemistry with veterans Robert Ferguson and Bobby Wade, two players whose use also don't include down the field.

It's too bad the Vikings don't have better talent at tight end, Penny or not, because a young QB like Jackson could use a safety valve and a good tight end could really take advantage of the strong running game they've got going. I don't blame them for drafting Tyrell Johnson in the second round this past April however, he's good and a fit for the defense.

Although JDB is quite an NFL-ready QB he is still a rookie and the Vikings could not pass up an opportunity to fill one more piece to their SB puzzle by adding Pennington who I feel is a worthwhile improvement over any other player at his position on the roster imo. Not to mention the dome stadium and stout run game would only help his situation and ease the transition.

so you're saying that you think mangini is going to start a guy who hasn't even been able to assert himself over a very average chad pennington. mangini doesn't need to have any ties to favre to not end that consecutive starts record. of all of favres records, that's the one that is the most impressive and gets the most respect for. to end that streak in any way other than favre getting hurt is just asking for a nightmare, from both favre and the media. it'd be idiotic to think otherwise.

What if it simply isn't the best choice for a starting QB? I'm not saying he is not going to start... I'm just saying it'd be stupid to put him in there even he he didn't know the offense or hadn't yet developed timing and chemistry with his new teammates..

Remember he just missed out on most of training camp...

Stupid or not it doesn't matter, he's starting week one.
