Preseason game #2: vs Titans
Starts in about 5-10 mins...
Looking forward to seeing if how much more JRuss is implemented into the game.

Looking forward to seeing if CJ of the Titans can put together another great display in limited playing time. On the Raiders side I'm hoping for a more balanced offensive attack this time with Walker possibly emerging as a viable target for Russell as he continues to come back to full health.

Both Curry and Miller have a couple of nice catches. JRuss is zipping it much better today.

IMO Curry should be our undisputed #1... Walker and Carter have both looked mediocre at best, each missing several catchable balls over the last two games. I'd like to see Todd Watkins with the first team some; from the reports he had a great camp including many fantastic catches. As strong as Walker may be and as fast as Carter may be, neither looks very sure-handed. I expect to see Miller as a key component to our offense's success this season, so his play so far has been very encouraging. But please, if Walker and Carter can't step it up, we have several young guys in the wings who deserve a shot...
Defense is looking great, although we need to cut down on the penalties (*cough* Routt */cough* -- seriously though, Routt has looked solid apart from the penalties, but our special teams unit has also had several lapses that need to be fixed...).
EDIT: Ugh... that last drive was ridiculous. PENALTIES !!! But what a beautiful punt! 71 yards in the air!

Why wouldn't you just let that punt go . . . ? Wow, Higgins has done a complete 180 after a great showing last week. Despicable.

As soon as I saw him actually trying to make a play on that punt I knew he was in trouble.

The guy that has 'JaMarcus Russell will bust' in his sig better switch it up because Russell is the real deal. You can tell from this showing that he has legitimate NFL skills, not getting rattled in the face of the rush (although our line did a pretty good job) making plays outside the pocket and on the run. Tennesse's defense isn't anything to sneeze at either. I kind of wish we could set him loose in the preseason with long passes and ****, let him go down the field. Defenses are stacking the box, the dump offs will be there once the season starts, and we pretty much know we can run the ball.
I think some of it has to do with no true number one receiver, but it looks like Miller might be stepping up and snatching that role. Schilens had a good game too, I'm pretty comfortable with Walter at back up. Overall very pleased with his performance, especially compared to VY.

only problem is we have to have players that are able to stretch the field on those deep passes and we really dont have that WR that can do that. Walker i hope he can regain his confidence because as of late he hasnt shown what he used to have. Jruss did show great reads and really had amazing pocken awareness and he really has a nack to get that extra second back there to find the receiver. Our running game has shown why i think this running game will be top 5 in the league Mcfadden is the real deal this guy will break many long runs in the season, and Bush is just as legit he is just a young jerome bettis big guy who can run and light on the feet.

Watching JaMarcus Russell is a lot of fun. We must continue to build around him next off-season LT,WR... We can have a beast offense for years to come.
Every time Darren McFadden has the ball in his hands its exciting, its like damn is he gonna go all the way, lol.
Zach Miller could actually lead the team in catches and yards and hell why not TDs. I'm worried about our WRs. I can't see any of them getting more than 600 yards.

With those two positions filled i see us as definite playoff contenders.

Great game, crazy thing is JR looks much further progressed then VY, and technically this is JR's first off-season...Thats both a compliment for JR and a knock on VY, I know he has no WR's but he has to show something more then he did, JR showed off that cannon, the accuracy on the TD pass to Miller was incredible, and if Walker wasn't playing like a lazy out of shape bum the potential would be there for this offense to explode, scary to think about what Walker could do down field with Russell's arm.
Huff looked great at FS, something I was waiting for, showed off his great range, and I really think you see a different player from him this year, I think he's poised for a breakout year.
The backfield looks like you guys should just rotate everyone in, they are all talented and guys will be fresh in the 4th...Things in Oakland are really looking up, JR gives you something to be happy about knowing that you could have a franchise QB with off the charts potential.

hmmm
I watched the beginning of the game and than the very end of it. I liked what I saw from the first team offense and defense. Line held up alright JR looked very comfortable in the pocket and did not make any mistakes. The defense held up very well against the run and Terdell Sands played with a lot of energy. In my opinion he could be the key cog to our defense. If he can take on some double teams our LB's should be able to be effective against the run. We'll have to see what the defense can do when a team tries to run the ball at them continiously, which is what San Diego and the Chiefs have done to us for the past 3 seasons.

Highlights are extremely unreliable if you want to judge the performance of a secondary (or any other core of players / individual players) . . . the whole point is that they take the biggest plays, and when an offense has a big play, it probably means there was a lapse in the defense. The best way to scout a secondary is to go to a game in person because you can watch them closely on every play if you want to. On TV most of that action occurs off-screen, and highlights are inaccurate representations of the performance throughout the entire game.
Plus, it's just the preseason. Things change all the time, we've only played two games. Wait to pass judgment until the regular season is under way.
