Cuts
Well, the full list hasn't come out but as mentioned in the other thread, Rudi's probably gone.
PFT is reporting that they're asking Willie to take a pay cut. If it gets done or not I hope he stays with the team, it's good to have guys like him around and he's a Bengal... Been here through it all.
Here's to hoping Ahmad doesn't get cut. Granted, if he plays like he did in the preseason we wouldn't be missing much.

Rudi and Willie have been cut. After Willie wouldn't take the pay cut (they countered but it wasn't enough) they let him go.
This sucks. Willie was a team guy and he was with us through it all. I understand we're saving a massive amount of money cutting him and Rudi while neither were the talent level they once were but this still sucks.

Willie is still a very good player and it is very sad to see him go on such terms. Our best RT ever.

its sad to see how we're treating the players who helped make this franchise slightly successful.
Don't give TJ a contract, cut Willie, cut Rudi. We even traded away Justin Smith.
Eh, heres to hoping the future is better!
oh and they cut Deltha O'neal too btw. I guess we're going to get thrown all over why the growing pains of TWO young CB's haunts us all season.

Brooks, Jim Maxwell, Jeff Rowe, and Eric Henderson also all cut by the team. All cuts are listed here:

Deltha has been crap! Willie prolly wasnt doing well...he has been in the league for a long time. Rudi is a crap back that was getting paid way too much...and Justin Smith was crap as well. If Willie wasnt up to par than I see no reason to keep him on a big salary. I dont want crap players that arent performing to play and get paid alot for crap. Oneal, Willie, and Rudi had contracts that were too big for them...possibly we are opening some cap space for a reason??????Does anyone know how much cap space that frees up? I know Rudi was 3-4 million cap hit...not sure on Oneal or Willie...but maybe this can get TJ a contract renegot?
Im glad Rowe got cut...he was crap.

Ugh... Basically what this tells me is that (as we all know) Mike Brown only cares about the money. We could've comfortably been under the cap with Rudi/Deltha/Willie.
Now, Deltha is not much anymore and Rudi is on the decline but they cannot deny they would be valuable depth.
Henderson sucks to lose as he has a lot of talent but given the injuries I can understand that one. Ahmad blew in the preseason no doubt but put him at freaking MLB where he belongs in this defense.
Not very happy with today's results... If we bomb this year like I'm afraid it's paper bag time.

Maybe they are clearing up this cap space to pay Stacey?

That makes sense as to why Willie was cut. But overall, Rey Maualuga looks more like a possibility every day....

The thing about it is we can't sign Andrews this season (to my knowledge since he was tagged). They're sacrificing two players that are massive keys in terms of depth for money.
We need to win NOW, our window is while Carson is here.
I will say, the one positive that could come out of being terrible this year would be Maualaga... We need him bad.

Maualuga is the key to next years draft for us. If we get him in Rd 1, I couldnt really care what we do the rest of the time

The article says the cuts freed up about $8 million for us to work with. That allows us to rework contracts with TJ and others. Other than that, the article pretty much explains everything.
If it is to be that we don't do s**t this year, Maualuga seems to be the answer to all of our problems. I would love to see him in stripes.

I'm not as high on Maualuga as some but he definitely fills a need and brings the type of attitude that this team is so desperately in need of.

I think he is the best MLB to come out in awhile and could rival Patrick Willis as the best young MLB. We need a hard hitting LB to be our leader and him and Rivers should take control if we get them both.

I'm hoping he goes to the Chargers. I'd like to see him have a shot at going far in the playoffs.

That would be great. Willie deserves to have a deep playoff run. Unless he goes to Baltimore.

I've been out of the loop again, but after seeing the cuts, I guess it's the emotion involved in losing some of the guys we did. I can understand the Rudi cut, although it's still arguable. I can understand the Deltha cut, but I'm not happy with our depth at CB now. I can't for the life of me understand cutting Willie. He was still able to provide depth IF NOTHING ELSE and his leadership was invaluable. We keep a hold of Thornton for his supposed leadership, but he brings nothing week in and week out and he still holds a roster spot for some reason.
Sadly I see another disappointing season in our future, but am holding out hope. Come to think of it, this team could go 10-6 but they could EASILY go 4-12.

Ugh... I actually agree with Chad Johnson on something...
"Usually, you’re able to give a reason why it (getting cut) happens to certain people but I don’t have a reason why you let Willie Anderson go.”
I mean, he wasn't playing to the level his salary would've been BUT we were under cap and he was massive depth. I would understand if the team was in a rebuilding year but we have to win NOW.
Rudi I can deal with, O'Neal is fine gone. LOL @ the Patriots signing him, ask them how signing our last washed up CB worked out.

its really hard for me to fathom a Bengals team without Willie who has been our RT since I started following the Bengals hardcore. But in the same breath, I knew deep down this had to happen. Would have been too good for him to stay...

Willie's play has never dipped in the last few years when he has been healthy. But, he is getting up there and when you are a RT wear and tear can become a real problem. He's one of our best players ever and it saddens me to see him leave. I think money/health was the main reason for it and if it allows us to sign Stacey Andrews and TJ Houshmanzadeh to new deals it was probably in our best interest.

Chad Jackson didn't sign with the Raiders in order to come here and workout... Interesting to say the least.
