We're putting a franchise tag on Koenen. Seems kinda silly for a punter.

How? It's relatively cheap for a guy who was vital to our field position last season.

Like him, but he's now pretty overrated due to that record. I don't think he's top 5.

He may be. But I'll pay 1.5 million additionaly to ensure keeping an above average, and very accurate, punter. 2.5 million for a guarentee or 1 million for a gamble? 1.5 million isn't much.

He's very good at pinning inside the 20 and kickoffs. But 21st in net average punts.

That's what I love, though. Putting a team inside their 10 is a huge advantage.
Look at the Steelers when they lost their punter. They got a guy who was probably their biggest weakness down the stretch.

What do you guys think on ATL saying they will try and trade Vick's rights?? Its obviouly the smart decision, but even though getting rid of him in a trade is an upgrade for us no matter what since he has no chance of staying, i think if he gets a starting chance, that team will end up with the better deal since Vick hasnt played in a while and wont trade a player worth what Vick was a few years back. And if he is still that quality of a player, then its just unfortunate for us

It's not unfortunate for us if we give up vick and he's still the same as before. We got Matt Ryan, forget Vick. The only thing is, we wont be able to get **** for him. There is a lot of demand for a QB in the league today, but who would want a 30 year old QB, who sat in jail for 2 years, and pretty much only realies on his feet?? Any team that trades for him will have a dark cloud over their heads. I doubt we are able trade him, maybe some idiot team like the raiders or lions take a chance. You never know.

With his contract and issues we won't have any shot at trading him.

Dont be too sure, i could see a team parting with a fully conditional pick for his services. No real risk for the team trading for him.

Anything we get for Vick is nice. I tend to think we will get something. Maybe a 5th. I'm already on board as shown by the sig. I want to see him get another shot, especially now that he's probably been extremely humbled.

No way, not unless his contract is almost completely degraded due to the incident.
No team is going to pay ten million a year and deal with the bad publicity he brings, along with giving a draft pick, for a player who has not played the game in two seasons.

well, i think some teams out there are crazy enough to do it. Personally, it has to be a team that currently has ZERO QBs that are starter quality, which isnt many. Jets could potentially try something, and maybe the 49ers or Bears. But really outside of those 3, i dont see too many teams needing a QB. Cards have Leinart, 'Hawks have Seneca Wallace is Hasselbeck is injured, and he is pretty athletic, so they really have no reason to take Vick when they have the clean-version of him.....
Itll be tough to trade, but it would be great if it happened

I'm not saying any team should trade for him, but comparing him to Seneca Wallace is horrible. Wallace doesn't like to run and lacks the arm Vick does. He's slower, weaker armed, and they have completely different styles.

If we give up our first rounder along with Vick, maybe Detroit will do it. ;)

Detroit was another team i forgot to add in, but obviosuly Wallace is no Vick, but Wallace is a pretty athletic QB compared to most. He plays a little WR sometimes too. Really, IDC who takes Vick, but a trade would be nice. And Detroit really could do it, i mean they would improve a lot with him since they have no QB

Vick's salary is such a problem. What a pain in the ass.

AJC article - Falcons eye 5 at combine
Five players on the Falcons’ radar at NFL combine
By D. ORLANDO LEDBETTER
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Tuesday, February 17, 2009
Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff points out that player evaluations do not hinge on the performance at one event, such as the Senior Bowl or the NFL scouting combine.
The Falcons will add more data to the information the scouting department has been collecting on the prospects for the 2009 NFL draft at the combine, which begins Tuesday.
Last year, the Falcons added major pieces on offense — quarterback Matt Ryan and offensive tackle Sam Baker — through the draft. This year, they will address a defense that leaked yards (348.2, 24th in the league), but not points (20.3, 11th), last season.
Here’s a look at five players on the Falcons’ radar at the combine:
• Louis Delmans, Safety, Western Michigan
A high-character guy, the kind the Falcons are trying to add. He works with youth and wants to build a Boys and Girls club in his hometown of North Miami Beach, Fla. Shined at the Senior Bowl. Was a four-year starter for the Broncos. A big-hitter, with man-to-man coverage skills.
• Brandon Pettigrew, Tight end, Oklahoma State
Described by his position coach Doug Meacham as a “classic tight end.” Pettigrew does the dirty work inside. He is also fast and athletic enough to get open on mismatches with linebackers and safeties down field.
• Brian Cushing, Linebacker, Southern California
Could be gone by the time the Falcons pick at No. 24. He’s 6-foot-4, 255 pounds and can run, has good lateral quickness and strength. A workout freak with just six percent body fat who eats five meals a day that are crafted by a nutritionist and delivered to him.
• Peria Jerry, Defensive tackle, Mississippi
Turned in a fine senior season and was named first-team All-American by Associated Press. Had 47 tackles and 17 tackles for loss, which led the Southeastern Conference. He also had six sacks and a fumble recovery.
• Clint Sintim, Linebacker, Virginia
Played outside linebacker in the 3-4 alignment for Al Groh. Appears to have the speed and striking ability the Falcons covet. Was a four-year starter in the Atlantic Coast Conference and also played special teams.
