OK well cool guys you made your points. One like him the other likes him less. It's not going anywhere. No more about Chris Houston from this point.

On a sidenote, It's snowing in Atlanta. Nice to see some snow here.

Where are these stats from, BTW?
KC Joyner's website. and I'm not saying he's our #1 CB. Jackson is. Houston is our #2 or RCB.

Silly to say Chris Houston is a top 15 CB in the NFL then to say Chevis Jackson is our #1 CB and Houston is #2. LOL does that mean Chevis is top 10 in the NFL?...he'd have to be top 14 at least...thats despite having no real experience playing anywhere other than the slot in the pros.

Jackson only has potential outside and is a good nickel back at this stage...therefore Id prefer Houston outside covering a #1 WR than Chevis at the moment. Both have lots of potential though...exciting times...neather are top half in the league at their positions.

At this stage we have two many holes...we need to eliminate 1 (preferably 2) impact needs in free agency. Guys like Burnett or Crowell would be nice as would a NT due to the draft offering very little past BJ and Trey being an unknown commodity, i wonder what the Jags would like for Henderson...he is meant to be on the block and i read we should have 2 or 3 comp picks in round 3 next year...if so i would be looking to package our actual 2010 3rd in any trades we are to look to make this offseason.

Some values im starting to Like...
SLB Follet in the 4th
SS Bruton in the 2nd
TE Coffman in the 3rd-4th(our #3TE & WR in special packages till he learns to block)
CB Macho Harris in the 2nd-3rd
DE Aaron Maybe 1st
DE Larry English 1st
DE Robert Ayers 2nd
SS Louis Delmas high 2nd (trade down)

Boys what are the thoughts on the weight gains of English and Maybin? How much speed to you rekon it cost em?

With all these starters lost and nobody signed, comp picks next year will be great.

Who would we get compensation picks from? The players you get them from can not be cut or traded, they must have been free agents and extremely high payed to get a third round compensation.

It all depends on who we sign. However, it seems unlikely that we will sign as many players as we have lost, in which case we have a chance at comp picks.

As for the level of those picks, it depends on a number of things, including contract size, performance, games started.

Foxworth's contract, at 7 mill per year, is in 3rd round territory, and if he starts all 16 games and plays well, we'd have a chance at a 3rd rounder.

Boley, at 5 mill per year, is probably more in 4th round territory, while anyone else we lose, including Brooking, is more likely to be a 5th - 7th.

We have a lot of guys who are likely to leave as free agents:

Foxworth (gone and signed)
Brooking (gone and signed)
Boley (gone and signed)
Davis (likely to go)
Milloy (gone, not yet signed)
Jackson (maybe gone)

I expect us to end up losing 5, signing 3, and getting either (top end of range) 3rd and 5th or (bottom end of range) 4th and 6th.

Foxworth would have to be a probowler to manage a third round pick. Very, very few players warrent third round compensation.

Well... are we gonna sign anybody?? I hear a lot about players we are looking at. Some players Ive heard are in town or are at least talking with the Falcons:

Greg Spicer
Angelo Crowell
LJ Smith
Sean Jones
Freddy Keiaho

IDK maybe 1 or 2 other players Im missing, but hopefully we can get at least Crowell. I have no confidence in Coy Wire for a full season

uhh NO. He's a great situational pass rusher. At SLBer he'll need to be able to cover, never was asked to do that. If we blitzed more, maybe he could, but with this defense it'll never happen.

Where have you heard of some of these guys? I've only heard of interest in Paul Spice and LJ Smith.

And it just doesn't seem like we are going to do anything. Maybe just LJ because we are the only suitor it seems.

Yea true, I like him as well. He is still very young though so PT will come. I would never move him to OLBer though. He is learning to be DE from one of the best in ABE and he is the first option if he goes down. ABE will not play forever though, so in the future, Kroy will get his shot as the starter. As of right now, he'll contribute on ST and 3rd down pass rusher.

I would say athletic LBers who can cover pretty good. Freddy Keiaho is undersized but he would be a great fit. He is pretty much like Coy Wire in terms of how he plays. I don't see us going after Derrick Brooks. He's not the same player he once was, kinda like Keith Brooking but even older. It would be a mistake signing him for anything other than leadership.

i think we need some vet leadership on the defence now that milloy and brooking gone. dont look like grady will be back either, so defence looking pretty young.

What we really need is some speed and playmakers. Those guys were just old and could only give you so much. Don't forget we still have ABE and BABS. Also Erik Coleman. Lofton and Houston will be second year starters, they'll do just fine.

i could not agree with you more that we need speed, and especially after that playoff game i did not want either brooking or milloy back as starter, but i have always had an impression that brooks is athletic despite his age.

was looking at a list of guys still available and jim leonhard interests me. he played ss last year for the ravens, so replacment for milloy, but i guess the jets will overpay and he ends up there.

I like jim leonhard as a player, but no way do I want him to be the starting SS for this team. We are looking for more size for our SS and our FO has already said they are looking for someone bigger to fill in. Right now we don't have a DB starter taller than 5'10".

Yea that's a good idea, don't forget we still have Thomas DeCoud.

Also, one of these are options...

Just looked at Thomas DeCoud's scouting combine numbers...

height: 6'1 3/8
weight: 207
forty: 4.50
vertical: 35.5

those are really good. Didn't know he was that tall.

I'm contradicted on DeCoud. We our scouting the safety class heavy... which would lead me to believe we want a safety. I know DeCoud was a great ST guy in college, but you don't pick a non-returner ST guy in the 3rd round. I've got to believe we've got something in mind with him. Maybe we just didn't expect Erik Coleman to play as well as he did? Who knows.

or maybe Coleman was a stopgap at FS for a year and is supposed to be our SS. they did say they want the FS and SS to be interchangeable. with Coleman and Decoud we'd have 2 guys who can cover AND hit. we may not have the biggest safeties or the 220 pound mauler that Dimitroff has talked about in interviews, but our guys wouldn't be small at 6'1" 207 and 5'11" 206. We'll have tough guys who wanna hit and wanna play good coverage. I think this was the plan all along. and Chevis at LCB as well. He ran a 4.52 at the combine. but the big thing is, he's as fast in pads, and his quick #'s were as good as a guy like Malcolm Jenkins in this year's draft.
