Bama you have problems with Jenkins at #2? I think he will be a great #2 for us this upcoming year. He already put up nearly 800 yards last year (was on pace for 900 in the 2nd half of the season) and developed a good chemistry with Ryan. I was predicting a breakout year from him this upcoming season (900-1000 yards), but we traded for Gonzo.

I don't have a problem with him as the number two receiver, just didn't love him as the number two option. Gonz coming in puts Jenkins right where I like him, number three (of the receiving options). He is a solid player, won't be much more than that. JMO of course.

As for the Roddy White situation: he needs to get paid. His ability to stretch the field is invaluable for a run based offense; his presence on the outside alone allowed for a more efficient Turner. You take Roddy White outside of the equation, and teams don't have to worry about the deep ball as much and can focus more on the run or short-intermediate passes to Jenkins and Gonzalez. Douglas has the ability to beat defenses deep, but he is still very raw and not proven. On top of all of that, White is a great receiver. He may very well still be underrated and could continue to get better; White has great balance when it comes to the game because of his combination of speed, strength, hands, and route running ability (even though he may still drop a few). With Gonzalez in the mix, he should be seeing more man to man situations and will dominate.

Greg Jenning's contract vs Roddy White. I have Jennings and White on the same tier of players and they do deserve similar amounts of money. The only thing I can think of is the fact that Jennings most likely deserves a longer deal (packers should have locked him down in my opinion. he is a stud) because of his age and the max I would give White is 5 maybe 6 years.

It is interesting to see Grimes tear it up again in TC. He did a great job last year in TC and preseason, but got absolutely lit up in the regular season. Everyone raves about his athletic ability, so I do want to see him as the #2 CB (who else do we have anyway) and hopefully he can learn to hold his own against bigger receivers. I really do hope he can play lights out this upcoming season; it would really help our CB woes.

I don't think Sidbury will be a 3 down DE that soon. He is still very undersized and could you imagine having a defensive line with Abraham, Jerry, Babs, and Sidbury? Yes, pass rushing terror, but a simple run against any of those guys would not bode well for us. I like him as a 3rd down pass rush specialist throughout the season, but Anderson or Davis need to hold down the starting spot for run defending purposes.
I agree with the rest of the post, although I'm not much of a believer in Grimes. I'll go in with low expectations for our secondary, hoping to be suprised.

I remember I wasn't overly happy along with Bama when we committed to Jenkins as our number 2, but he did make some strides. I do agree that he is definitely best off as a 3rd option though. God, Gonzo is going to be great. Just a matter of how many years he gives us.

****. Harry Douglas was carted off the field holding his left knee. I read somewhere that Owens and his knee collided on the field. I hope its not bad.

I liked him! Seemed like a good potential guy. One thing I noticed was that he and Norwood have the skinniest legs I ever seen. I am suprised they don't snap when someone tackles them. They are soo skinny!

Wow, what a hit. Very useful player.

Trading Laurent Robinson doesn't look so good now :(. Currently first string on the Rams. Even if soft, he has talent.

Ugh. And we didn't take a WR in this past draft. I wanted one!

Roddy now has some more leverage as well.

I wanted one as well. I was a fan of Aundrae Allison coming out and he might get released, so he'd be worth a look.

Terrible news about Douglas. I really liked him as a thret opposite of White. Now that you have Tony Gonzalez you really cannot rely on Michael Jenkins to be the number 2 WR even though he put up decent numbers last year. I think Douglas would have been a greater asset for the Falcons than Jenkins ever could be.

Horrible news, Harry was playing so well at the end of the year and I expected big things from him this year. This really sucks, but it looks like Fin is playing well in TC so let's see how it goes.

douglas is a slot receiver. for our offense, i'd rather have jenkins healthy than douglas healthy this season. it's his special teams contributions that are gonna be missed.

Indeed. Proved to be a solid slot guy last year and a dynamic returner. I'd have to imagine he only would have gotten better.

Marty Booker and Robert Ferguson signed. It's not backups for Roddy I don't think, it's more of just feeling some guys out to fill the void with HD.

And Willy Mo is going to miss a month now. Not looking great thus far fellas.

Nearly 800 yards from a WR2 when the WR1 puts up nearly 1400 and the RB puts up 1700? Pretty good considering a rookie QB too. Michael Jenkins is much more valuable to the offense than Harry Douglas is; don't get whisked away by his potential. Jenkins provides a reliable option for the first down.

Has Aaron Kelly done anything noteworthy at camp? I know you really can't rely on him, being that he's a rookie and an UDFA one at that, but when your lacking for depth someone needs to step up. We nabbed Kevin Ogletree after the draft and he's poised to make our 53 man roster after being a constant play maker each day, over Manuel Johnson who we drafted, and Stanback who can't stay healthy, sometimes you never know.

Hate to hear this about Douglas, hopefully this doesn't stunt any development long term, but nabbing Tony Gonzalez has to make you feel a little better to have another reliable pass catcher for Ryan.

Can you imagine this news and you didn't have Gonzo? It would be magnified x5, but those are the breaks, TC injuries just hurt the most.

Aaron Kelly will probably make our number 5 WR now with his main competition being Eric Weems.

Roddy
Jenkins
Booker/Ferguson
Finneran
Kelly

Just get Roddy back soon. :(

I think Chandler could compete with Kelly. More experience, also a talented former Clemson player. Although I do hate Clemson. Soft like Charmin. Ultra.

if you're talking about chandler williams, he's not from clemson.

i wanna see bergeron make it as out #5. he has experience returning kicks, albeit in the afl, and he's a slasher like douglas with more size. as the #5 he won't see the field too much but i wanna see what he can do against nfl DBs.

Oops, FIU.

Bergeon gets hype every year in Falcons camp. Never makes it.

Weems or Williams most likely IMO, Kelly if he suprises.

Roddy White is signed :)

5 years, 60 million, 18.6 guaranteed.

I think Chandler Williams makes the team as the #5 receiver. He has looked pretty fast out there in camp and should be able to contribute in returning punts as well.

You scared the hell out of me D. It's 6 years 50 million. That seems very fair for both sides. Good to have Roddy back.

The crazy thing is Aaron Curry signed for 6 year 60 mill (34 guaranteed), and he's a rookie LBer. Roddy White is a pro bowl receiver who is so vital to his team, but gets less than a LBer who never played a game in the league. No knock on Aaron Curry, he'll be great, but the NFL is so crazy in terms of contracts.
