Jamaal Anderson had a great game this past week. He was dominating Carey for the entire day and causing a lot of disruption... Here's a post from another board for the line stats.
this shows that AndNot sure if this is of any interest but I went through week 1's game and jotted down some quick notes for our O-line and D-line. I apologize if my notation is confusing.
================================================== =
O-line key:
Pass Blocking:
1 - Beat immediately, sack
2 - Beat immediately, hit on QB
3 - Beat immediately, no hit
4 - Beat late, sack
5 - Beat late, hit on QB
6 - Beat late, no hit
7 - Pushed back (hurry QB)
Run Blocking:
A - Whiff on block, RB tackled
B - Whiff on block
C - Lost block immediately, RB tackled
D - Lost block immediately
E - Lost block late, RB tackled
F - Pushed back, altered RB path
Baker - E, E, D, 1, 7, 2, A, B
(Seemed to get tired in the 2nd half. Merling got him twice (once for a sack) and then he whiffed on two blocks)
Blalock - 2, 2, B, 3, 7
(Started out pretty bad but started fighting a little harder. Merling had his number as well)
McClure - 3
(Good game, glad he didn't retire)
Dahl - 3, 7, 5, 3, 7
(Had troubles early with Kendall Langford but managed to settle down in the 2nd half)
Clabo - 6, C, F, E, 4 (Taylor sack, whose fault?)
I'm not sure whose at fault for the Taylor sack. Taylor stunted inside and Dahl was already engaged with the D end (and didn't see Taylor). Dahl effectively blocked Clabo from re-engaging Taylor and he had a clear path to Ryan. Clabo played pretty good.
Gonzalez - F, A, C
They tried twice in the first quarter to have Gonzo block Joey Porter on a running play and twice Porter owned him. They didn't try that again.
Peele - A
Taylor made Peele look silly once.
================================================== =====
D-Line Key:
1 - Beat immediately, sack
2 - Beat immediately, hit on QB/RB
3 - Beat immediately, no hit
4 - Beat late, sack
5 - Beat late, hit on QB/RB
6 - Beat late, no hit
7 - Pushed back (hurry QB/block RB lane)
8 - Screen Recognition
9 - Chased Down from Behind
Results:
A - Sack
B - Sack Assist
C - Tackle
D - Tackle Assist
E - QB Throw Away
F - Interception
G - Batted Ball
Format - Play Type (Blocker Beaten, Type of Rush)
Abraham -
3 (Long, Speed Inside)
8C
1A (Long, Bullrush)
3E (Long, Speed Inside)
4A (Disengaged)
7C (Polite, Bullrush)
2 (Long, Bullrush)
Abe dominated Long early. Long got a little better in the 2nd half.
Babineaux -
2C (Smiley, Speed Right)
2 (Grove, Club Left)
2F (Thomas, Club Left)
3 (Thomas, Speed Left)
5 (Smiley, Club Right)
Babs didn't do much until he blew through the line and splattered Ronnie Brown. Had a few good plays and hit Pennington a few times. The last time resulted in the Peterson interception.
Jerry -
3 (Thomas, Clubbed Right)
3 (Grove, Speed Left)
7 (Grove, Bullrush, Grove held)
2C (Thomas, Clubbed Right)
3 (Grove, Speed Left)
2E (Thomas, Speed Left)
2 (Thomas, Speed Left)
I was really impressed with Jerry's first game as a pro. He didn't get that many results but he was consistently beating Grove and Thomas. His favorite move is a juke move to the left with a great, quick burst. When he goes right, he swings his arms like a club to knock his main aside.
Anderson -
3 (Carey, Speed Inside - Carey tackled him)
7E (Carey, Speed Outside)
7 (Carey, Bullrush)
7 (Carey, Bullrush, Carey tackled him)
6 (Carey, Disengaged)
7B (Carey, Bullrush)
7G (Carey, Bullrush)
6E (Carey, Speed Left)
8E
I think playing a little less helped keep his intensity high. Carey was Jamaal's whipping boy on Sunday as he constantly had Carey on his back heels in full retreat. Carey twice even had to tackle him after he was beat (neither was called). He was equally effective at the speed rush and bullrush. But what was the most promising was Jamaal's play recognition. He knocked down one pass from Pennington and then picked up on a screen pass and blocked Ronnie Brown from releasing. Pennington just threw the ball into the ground in disgust as JA98 waggled his finger to Brown, "no, no, no!".
Biermann -
1A (Ronnie Brown, Avoided)
3 (Smiley, Inside Swim)
1A (Long, Bullrush)
3 (Long, Speed Right)
3 (Ricky Williams, Avoided)
7 (Carey, Speed Left)
7 (Carey, Speed Left)
3 (Carey, Speed Left, Carey Held)
Biermann showed a wide variety of pass rush moves that kept the O-line off balance. He even bullrushed Long for his second sack. That was the second time on Sunday that a "speed rusher" owned Long with a bullrush. The two times Miami tried to block Biermann with a running back, he showed great nimbleness and just dodged them. At left end, Carey was hopeless against the speed rush and ended up holding him and getting a TD called back.
Good to see Biermann stepping up this year.
Davis -
6 (Smiley, Bullrush)
7B (Carey, Bullrush)
9C (Not Blocked)
7 (Carey, Bullrush)
Davis's pass rushing skillset is pretty much just the bullrush. He was able to disrupt Pennington a few times but generally didn't make a big difference.erson was actually a very solid DE this past week. I think he will be getting a sack or 2, especially with Otah having a bum shoulder.

Anderson had 9 plays where he beat the guy.
Abraham had 8
Bierman had 8
Davis had 4
Jerry had 7
Babs had 5.
I think Anderson is a pretty good DE. and is finally proving that even though he may not be getting the sacks, he is getting the pressure.

I'm really not sure were you are getting that. He really didn't have that much pressure at all. He helped Abraham on his second sack, but not all that much else.

no he did. He was getting pressure all day. I think people have no idea on how to read how DE's play. He was in the face of pennington a lot and was causing pressure all day.

Or people try and see something that isn't there to make excuses for a guy..

Good defensive series Houston. Give up a big play to Smith and then don't make the tackle on the outside. Good work buddy.

It took 58 minutes but finally we got a big turnover. Perfect timing.

I can't believe Houston actually did something. And jesus, that was scary at the end. Thank god the ref signaled early. I would have had a heart attack.
