Gah after this game I can see so many areas of need in the draft. Its always easier to see what you need after a loss but it helps.

Ryan needed this game. It sucks to lose but he will learn.

No. Of course he is going to make mistakes, but he cost us the game today. Jamaal Anderson too.

I dont think Matt Ryan would have costed us a game if we had some rushing help. That first interception was high but still catchable, went through harry douglases hands.
Plz explain to me how Jamaal Anderson costed us the game. He did get that tackle on the huge run, but for most of the game he did pretty good, especially the run.

Being good against the run does not mean making tackles 5 yards down the field. That's pretty much what he did. His complete lack of pass rush is no help either. And finally, he blew the final tackle.

Jamaal Anderson looked lost, they doubled Abe and he still couldnt manage to do anything. Babs looked great and we def missed Grady today.

After today you can see we definintly need another playmaking DE.

The coverage on third downs in the first half was absolutely terrible. CB and S are needed.
Lofton looked great and Boley didnt play much of a factor. We all know how I feel about Brooking. Put in Nicholas.

On offense, I though the line was fine, Ya Ryan got hit but that was b/c of the coverage. That also is due to the fact we dont have many playmaking receivers to get open. Roddy was unimpressive, Robinson looked great and other than that we really had no passing threat. WR and TE needed if we are gonna throw as many times as we did today.

Tampa was very prepared today. They double Jon Abraham on defense and doubled Roddy White on offense. Matt Ryan simply had no targets.

Ok, thoughts...

QB- Obviously started horribly, got better. Stayed calm and collected, but we needed that from the beginning of the game.
RB- Lots of effort, not lots of blocking. Lack of big runs.
WR- Average performance outside of Roddy's third down drop, and Roddy's third down fumble. Did not get open enough.
OL- Decent until Baker was injured, then we got destroyed all over. Big regression here, only got worse as the game went on.
TE- Who?
DL- Good against the run, good against the pass. Griese just got the ball off quickly today.
LB- Not enough playmaking, Brooking has been missing in action the first two weeks.
DB- Again, not enough playmaking. Need help here.
K- Great
P- Great, one amazing punt
KR- Average, fumble almost killed our hopes of winning
PR- Has improved from last year

Good things:
-Showed composure, really fought back and even outplayed the Bucs in the second half.
-Defense held their own all game until the end.
-DL impressed.
-Michael Boley knocked the heck out of somebody.

Bad things:
-Quarterback play started out horrible. It got better, but missing a wide open Harry Douglas hurt.
-Too many turnovers (two, almost three).
-Blocking. Was just horrible. Outside runs did decent, inside runs had nothing doing. Sam Baker played fine, Weiner did not. Pass protection seemed to deteriorate as the game went on.
-Playmaking. The defense seems solid, but outside of Abraham and perhaps Boley and Babineaux, they lack playmaking ability. We need to get more turnovers.
-The secondary had lots of miscommunications.
-Missed tackles on Earnest Graham. The long run at the end made it feel like the St. Louis game from last year. Attempted comeback thwarted by a long cutback run.
-Matt Ryan's deep ball. He can throw 65, which is about average for a NFL QB, but really lacked air under the ball this game. Like Tom Brady, I expect his deep ball to improve the longer he is in the NFL. He will undoubtably add bulk onto his upper body.

Most of all, one thing sticks out on why we lost this game. The redzone playcalling at the end of the game. From the five yard line. Turner had not experienced much success, but there is a 80% chance he gets five yards on three carries. Instead we ran a QB draw, a dropback pass, and a rollout. We should have pounded the ball in, instead we got cute. I'm a big fan of Matt Ryan's mobility, but he is not a true scrambler in the mold of a Vince Young, obviously. We either needed to pound the ball in or get Roddy White one on one with a corner on a screen, ala Seattle last year. The playcalling irritated me at that point.

Also, three passes to open up the game was not a good decision.

Overall, I think we have a very good shot at starting 2-1, which is nice considering our preseason expectations.

Yeah, we really need another target. Hence, my get Crabtree plan. But no, WR isn't a need....

I always noted WR was a need, but we have bigger needs than that. I would love for Matt Ryan to get another targer, perhaps TE? I would hope we spend some money this offseason rather then rely on draft.

We need defensive playmakers badly. We need some pass catchers on offense but I think the future is bright there. We need help on all three layers (four if you seperate safties and corners) of the defense.

Free agent pass catchers are usually epic fails.

Our bright spot this game was the defense. Sure there was a lot of penalties, and a lot of guys we left open, but the defense kept us in the game. Other than that long run and pass at the end, our defense was great, especially second half.

Im glad we had someone other then Abe step up on the d-line. Babineaux looked great all game.

I have been a huge fan of Babineux for a long time. Last year I was probably his biggest fan. Just great pursuit and penetration.

yea he really tries hard, and is very aggressive. He has moves to get past the OL. Led the league in TFL last year, lets hope he can do it again. We need him this year, bad.

doesnt have to be a pass catcher. When you try to rebuild through the draft, you will always make mistakes. We can get a pass rusher in the free agency, now dont tell me those are fails.

Babs better be re-signed. Along with Chauncey Davis, who is a very solid rotational player who can play the run and pass, and play both end spots.

But we have no ball instincts on defense. Say what you want about DHall, he got to the ball. Abraham is also a ball magnet forcing fumbles and getting sacks. Boley ditto. Outside of them noone really has a nose for the ball.

Players I like for us right now in the first few rounds...

QB- not a position of need.

RB- not a position of need.

WR- Not many players I like after round one. We need a big target though, Jenkins will be gone after this year.

TE- If we go for a conventional tight end I could see us grabbing Petigrew, but more than likely I see us going the Jets route, drafting a slot receiver/ tight end and keeping a conventional tight end. If we have an early round two selection I could see us grabbing Travis Beckum or Shawn Nelson to play a Dustin Keller type role.

OT- Oher could play RT, but if we are in position to draft him I don't see us wanting to pay a right tackle that kind of money. If he falls, then fine. I really like Andre Smith, he is an excellent athlete and extremely powerful. If he can't keep his weight down I see him moving to guard, but he definitely has the talent. I see Loadholt having a Gosder Cherilus type fall, which probably puts him a bit low for us.

OG- again, I like Andre Smith but I doubt I would take a guard too early with Blalock and Dahl playing sufficient. Having Smith or Duke Robinson paired with Blalock would be a nasty combination, though.

C- Alex Mack would be amazing if we picked late in round one. Center is a significant need, although it is easier to find players here than at other positions.

DE- Early in the draft I think Brian Orakpo emerges, grabbing him late round one to early round two would be nice if he was available. If we lose Chauncey Davis to free agency Orion Martin from Virginia Tech. is a similar player.

DT- Not a great year to need a defensive tackle. Lacks size. If we lose Babineaux there are some nice UTs (under tackles/ three techniques) available, but not many players I would like to play nose tackle for me.

OLB- Aaron Curry is a freak, but I don't want to draft a LB early when we have a potential Brooking replacement ready in Stephen Nicholas. Former teammate of Nicholas Tyrone McKenzie would be a nice pickup in round two, maybe round three.

MLB- Not a position of need. I could see Dannell Elerbe from Georgia playing outside linebacker.

CB- Looking for size and playmaking here. If we go for one in round one I like Malcolm Jenkins and Vonte Davis, obviously both fit the requirements. Scott tremendously underrates Macho Harris. He has the size, athleticism, ball skills, and instincts to be a top cornerback. Mike Mickens from Cincinnati is a playmaker.

S- William Moore is the top safety available, but I don't really want to take one very high. Safties can be found a bit later. I like Kam Chancellor a lot, but he is having a mediocre year so far playing out of position at free safety. I would absolutely love to have Derek Pagues from Mississippi State starting at free safety for us. Coleman could play strong safety. Pagues is a playmaker.

Sounded like you were implying a pass catcher to me.

Bama hit a lot of names I like a lot. Specifically Beckum for the TE position and Orakpo at DE. Crabtree is still number one for me, but I'd love someone like Beckum as a receiving threat.

And I'm thinking Michael Boley's lack of playmaking thus far comes from his big loss of weight. Probably can't shed blocks nearly as well.
