While the new kickoff rules are ********, they put us in an interesting spot. Weems becomes a lot less valuable, and Koenen a lot more valuable, because he's probably going to bomb everything into the endzone. I feel like his punting has slipped though.

I don't really like the new kickoff rules, but it is an interesting change. In different ways it will make the special teams more and less significant.

I guess will see during draft day whether this is a smoke screen or not. I mean depending on a 5th rounder to make an impact and not draft insurance to get some reps in at no2 receiver and maybe slot is a dangerous balancing act. Jenkins will start regardless but breaking someone in would really help and you never know if Roddy or Jenkins goes down with an injury is Meier really the answer?

How is this a smoke screen? We are definitely drafting a WR, and coaches made it very clear.

The falcons will draft a wr but it's not clear when, and that's where the smokescreen comes in. For example a team that picks before atlanta might be considering hankerson but they also like some linebacker. They might decide to draft the linebacker now thinking that they can afford to wait until the next round to get hankerson. And then to their surprise atlanta's pick comes up and they take hankerson.

Then there is a smoke screen with every team in the league.

Oh definitely teams try, but no one thinks wr won't be a major need for baltimore because of an ineffectual david reed or an old derrick mason. But meirer is a young guy who showed flashes of being a productive player.

Yes, did he fess up about it? Absolutely, why the heck would you suspend him when he told the truth, about something so minor.

Ya know what, it's not worth it.

I agree with the 2nd part, the Falcon's will draft a receiver. The Meier article suggests how important he will be to the offense. I doubt it since he hasn't played a down yet and doesn't fit explosiveness we need. Meier will get time at no2 receiver but I look at him as a 4th option not no2 option. We need someone to push Jenkins.Jernigan and Cobb are slot receivers so that would give our offense a lift but it would be nice to have a drafted receiver who could play both slot and no2.

I don't think they are saying Kerry Meier will be the #2 WR. You are overthinking it, they are just giving you the usual "His rehab is going great and we are expecting big things from him."

Jenkins is decent but he isn't a lock for the #2 spot so why can't meirer win it? To be honest I expected douglas to grab the job but he seems to have regressed since his rookie year.

Do you really want to depend on a 5th round pick to win the no2 receiver position. Sure if he excels but that's a BIG IF.

5th round pick coming from a huge knee injury, yea pretty BIG IF and a terrible smoke screen, haha.

Please tell me you're not using that stupid strategy of trying to equate where someone is drafted with how good they are.

The law of averages says that usually a 5th round pick won't be a starter in the league or make a significant contribution.

There's a reason players get selected later on in the draft because they don't normally have the skill set to be core players. Go ahead pin your hopes on Meier and next year will be talking about the same exact thing. There is wishfulness and there is reality. The reality is not many players that are later picks become starters and can make an impact.

What as Meier done in the league to make you feel he'll be a no2 type receiver?

The reality is not many players that are later picks become starters and can make an impact.

That's complete bull. There are plenty of other reasons guys go in the later rounds...concerns about their health, they may be considered too slow or too small, they went to a small school and so the scouts doubt they'll be as productive against big time competition, etc

Every year guys taken in the first or second round bust meanwhile guys taken in the later rounds or go undrafted become productive players. There are guys in the Hall of Fame who were 12th round picks when they came out.
