Default Al Davis To fire Lane Kiffin as soon as Monday

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3587018

Quote:
The job of Oakland Raiders coach Lane Kiffin has come under fire again from the one person that matters, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

In late January, ESPN Senior NFL Analyst Chris Mortensen reported that Raiders owner Al Davis had drawn up a resignation letter for Kiffin a week into the year and asked the coach to quit.

Now, Davis is preparing to fire Kiffin as soon as Monday, regardless of how the visiting Raiders perform Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Mercury News has reported, citing several front-office sources.

I love Lane Kiffin as a coach, and I hope the off the field stuff doesn't hurt his chances to sign with another team. Seeing him in San Fran or St. Louis next year would be sweet.

If he fires Kiffin after a nice win like that (even though it was just the Chiefs) I will be furious.

How do they expect to develop Jamarcus, McFadden and the rest of the guys if they fire coaches? I know Al Davis is old but damn, senility must be getting the best of him.

Theres no way Russell can be good if he keeps getting new coaches. Davis need to stick with Kiffin for atleast this season and next season. The reason why we sucked last week wasnt Kiffin either, it was Rob Ryan. He didnt send any blitzes. This week we sent blitzes and our defense looked great.

Here's the latest, sounds like a done deal.

http://www.sbreport.net/raider_news/008/404.html

Quote:
As first reported on SBReport earlier today, the Oakland Raiders will promote defensive coordinator Rob Ryan to head coach after severing ties with Lane Kiffin.

Ryan, 45, becomes the 17th head coach in Silver & Black history, and the sixth head coach since the decade began. The fiery coordinator interviewed for the job in 2007, after the firing of Art Shell, but Oakland went with the young assistant from USC, telling Ryan in the process that he would make a good coach in the league in the near future.

I just saw on ESPN that league officials informed Kiffin he will be fired on Monday. It's in that breaking news bar at the bottom.

Here's another source:

Yah I'm not a big fan of this move whatsoever. And am I the only one who thinks that Al Davis made Rob Ryan throw the game in the last 8 mins in Buffalo? Seems odd to me that after shutting a team down for 3 1/3 quarters you suddenly switch your defensive strategy and start giving WR's 10yd cushions. No jamming, very little blitzing [and when we did it was vanilla] and soft zone coverage when you clinging on to a 2 pt lead with 2 1/2 mins left makes absolutely no sense at all. There is a little voice inside my head that thinks Davis called "the red phone" on the sidelines in the last 10 mins of the game and told Ryan to play that type of defense so he could fire Kiffin this week. I don't think this happened, but its a pretty sad day as a Raider fan that a part of me does.

Ryan will be al's puppett now, at least we will have a new d coordinator...and Komp, that 4th quarter defensive philosophy is the way Ryan has always played it...Don't give up the big play, just allow the other team to march down the field and get into game-winning fg range. PS- DeAngelo Hall giving up all those catches for first downs, playing ten yards off - he can go to hell.

If Kiffin is gone, we might as well give up on this season. We would have won yesterday if Hall didnt play 12 yards off his guy.

In all honesty, Kiffin didn't have much of a chance from the beginning. It was more a matter of when than if. They looked like they have a good nucleus in Oakland. I think that the holdout killed Russell's chances of succeeding.
As for Kiffin, we could use him in Chicago as an offensive coordinator.
