I doubt fans would be happy, I don't like the guy...he's a douche, but he is a good coach.

the guy who first reported this said they're aiming for someone who "has won a national championship or super bowl". apparently he mentioned mike tomlin's name. not saying he's a serious candidate but they certainly have the bank roll to make an offer higher than his current salary

Steve Patterson, the new Texas AD, is contractually not allowed to hire an ASU coach per his buyout, which takes Todd Graham off the list.

Don't see why Bill O'Brien would turn down the NFL but go to Texas.

I still think Mike Gundy is the most likely option.

Couldn't possibly be money, prestige, or ability to win at the highest level. Believe it or not B1G jobs aren't the be all, end all of coaching.

What the **** was the point of this post?

That is not at all what he was saying, he just said why would he turn down the highest level of coaching to stay at PSU when he was and has been a NFL guy through and through...but would leave for UT?

Please, continue with your act of being a ******* tool.

Not sure if they'd be interested in him, but I think Charlie Strong would be an interesting option. James Franklin and Hugh Freeze are two guys I'd be high on as well.

But apparently not reading comprehension, since you still don't understand the point of my post.

If Bill O'Brien would turn down the NFL (where he has connections, and where Texas can't exceed them in pay or prestige) to stay at Penn State, why would he go to Texas, where he has no connections?

This, by the way, is a rhetorical question. The only correct answer is "oh...I'm dumb. I didn't understand what you were saying." But in your stupid arrogance you won't admit that, so just carry on putting whatever stupid emoticon you want.

How is this even a question?

Texas can pay as well if not better than the NFL with a lot less stress and more stability.

I don't doubt that there might be some NFL coach that would view Texas as a better opportunity.

But it won't be a guy who has absolutely no connections to Texas whatsoever. If BOB only cared about money or prestige he'd have jumped at the NFL and didn't. That's my point.

NFL jobs are less stressful than UT would be. Texas' fan base is a helluva lot more ruthless than any NFL fan base, plain and simple.

More stability huh? Really? How are top programs seen as stable jobs...if you don't produce you get canned...same as anywhere in this game.

Mack Brown lasted 16 years winning MNC 1 and 2 conference titles and was paid extremely well. Recruiting is simple, especially compared to Penn State. It is an easier job for as much if not more money.

I don't agree that college is a better job. If you love football the NFL is the place, there's way less **** to put up with. No school president, no athletic director, no Regents, no Board of Trustees, no fundraising, no recruiting, no class attendance issues or grades to worry about. The NFL you have to worry about an owner and maybe a GM.

I disagree that Texas fans are ruthless. Fred Akers, David McWilliams and John Mackovic are a mediocre group of coaches, yet they were the only three hired during the twenty year gap between Darrell Royal and Mack Brown (admittedly Akers put together a few good years). Mack Brown himself did a lot of good things at Texas, but he spent most of his time playing second fiddle to Bob Stoops and Oklahoma, and it took four consecutive mediocre years to oust him. There's no real history of Texas being ruthless towards its coaches.

The NFL you have to worry about an owner and maybe a GM.
The NFL is pretty much purely win games, go to the playoffs, and win me games. That's all that counts. In college there is so much other ******** like all the stuff you listed. The toughest thing about the NFL is the grind of 24 hours constantly working. From the minute you wake up to the minute you fall asleep you need to be working and getting better as a coach. It's the reason why coaches that go on tv never go back to coaching.

Big news is Texas I know, but TCU with two nice hires in Sonny Cumby and Doug Meacham to hopefully patch up the offense. We've got some talent through transfers and a couple signees from years back. Hopefully we compete a lot better in the Big 12 next year.

Charlie Partridge hired to be the new HC at FAU.

Seems to be based primarily on his acumen as a recruiter as he's never been a head coach at any level. He has experience as a special teams coordinator at Pitt and a co-defensive coordinator at Wisconsin (though Chris Ash primarily ran the defense)

Partridge is a great hire. Local guy, familiar with South Florida, recruits the area well. Should fit in great there. I think FAU is in a better situation than FIU is now going forward.

I think a dumpster on fire is in a better situation than FIU is.
