ASU ran a offense very similar to the Run N' Shoot last year so maybe that gives him a little insight into the system

Luckily USC went to somewhat of a "spread stopping" defense this year. They sacrificed a lot of size and strength at some key positions and got smaller and much faster so that they could deal with Oregon.
Looks like it was a good move with the amount of spread backgrounds coming in.

Hannah Storm makes 1.2 million from ESPN so I know Herstreit makes a lot more from ESPN.
I know this is kind of old but I was watching the Dan Patrick show and the author of the ESPN book said Hannah Storm is making 1.2 million.

Not at all actually. They interviewed Kirby Smart the other day and I'm hearing it's down between Smart and Sumlin

If crappy nondescript Hannah Storm makes $1.2M, then Herbie is making a lot more scratch than she is.

If I'm A&M, I'm going with Smart I think. The more I think about it, the less I like Sumlin. He's a good coach obviously, but I really think he got a lot of credit for basically maintaining the groundwork that Art Briles set into motion. The floor you get with Smart might be lower because of his lack of experience, but he's more than likely going to get a job somewhere else and just end up at a big school in a few year. He's got experience in the SEC, something that could well pay dividend right away while A&M transitions) and has a reputation for being a big time recruiter.

And a defensive minded coach, something that seems to be the trend in the SEC.

2:15 Update: Arizona State has broken off talks (for now) with SMU coach June Jones, per a source.
Arizona State rivals site: Multiple sources: June Jones will not be the head football coach at ASU

I disagree, that would be a great hire for Memphis. Of all of the Conference USA teams, Memphis might be the least appealing, and getting a coordinator with the pedigree of McElwain is a pretty nice coup. Their offense is down this year, but his overall resume at Alabama certainly merits an opportunity at a school like Memphis.

Memphis TV outlet reporting McElwain accepted job last nite and the backed out later. TCU's Justin Fuente on radar.
