You didn't pay attention to what I said then, the incident happened at 2:38 seconds in the game...the playclock is 40 seconds, if he didn't call the timeout we'd have hit the 2 min warning and thus nullifying the fact that he saved a timeout to challenge the play.

If he doesn't call the timeout then we hit the two minute warning and the play never happens. If the same play does happen after the two minute warning then the refs have the ability to review it.

Damn I saw this threat from the overview, and thought it was in the Niner forum saying that Jonas Jennings was released. :(

It looks like the injured reserve list isn't in Dan Orlovsky's immediate future.
The Lions solved their roster glut of quarterbacks Wednesday -- for now, at least -- by waiving Drew Henson when they claimed receiver Adam Jennings, who was waived Tuesday by Atlanta. Henson, who'd been on the 53-man roster for the last month, still has practice-squad eligibility remaining, so the Lions hope to bring him back if he clears waivers.
Jennings was the Falcons' main punt returner the last two years, right up until his controversial miscue against Philadelphia a couple weeks ago. The Lions beat out the Vikings -- and Seattle, according to the NFL Network -- with their claim for Jennings. I'd imagine we'll see him returning punts either this week or next -- and as the gunner on coverage units -- while Aveion Cason already is slated to return kicks after being re-signed Tuesday.
Orlovsky, who has a torn ligament and two fractures in his right thumb, visited a second orthopedic hand specialist this week and said Wednesday: "I'm gonna try and do everything I can not to have surgery."
That doesn't mean he'll play anytime soon -- "I'm gonna give it time to let it heal on its own and we'll reassess it in a couple weeks," he said -- but it means he's not scrapping his season just yet. He's not hurting his chances to find a job in free agency, though, either. Orlovsky said surgery to repair the ligament damage would require only a six-week recovery, so it's still something he can have done later this fall if needed.

ALLEN PARK -- The starting position has been awarded to Daunte Culpepper, but that doesn't mean the Detroit Lions' quarterback situation has been resolved.
Lions coach Rod Marinelli said Wednesday that Culpepper would take the first snap when the 0-9 Lions visit the 7-2 Carolina Panthers on Sunday. However, Marinelli wouldn't reveal what role backup Drew Stanton might have in the game and he wouldn't discuss the status of Dan Orlovsky.
Last week, Culpepper took about 70 percent of the snaps in practice and Stanton took the remainder.
"Me and Drew are preparing to play," Culpepper said Wednesday. "I haven't talked to anybody about who's starting. I'm going to prepare the same way every week."
In the 38-14 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Stanton entered the game in the first quarter during the team's goal-line offense package and threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to tight end John Owens.
Stanton didn't play again until the Lions were trailing by a large margin in the fourth quarter.
Because the Lions won't work on their specialty units, including the goal-line offense, until Friday, it is unknown whether Culpepper or Stanton will run that part of the offense against the Panthers. Culpepper said he didn't take any goal-line snaps during practice last week.
Against the Jaguars, Culpepper completed 5-of-10 passes for 104 yards. Many of his passes were slightly off-target, thrown a little late and behind his receivers.
"The timing is coming along. We've gotten a little extra work the last couple of days. The timing is just repetition, and I think we're moving in the right direction," said Culpepper, who continues to absorb as much of the offense as possible. "Preparing is half the battle. You have to know what you're going up against when you're out there."
While Stanton's status for this week's game is still up in the air, so is Orlovsky's status for the rest of the season. He said Wednesday he would not have surgery on his right thumb, which has two small fractures and a torn ligament.
"I'll take it day to day and see how it feels," Orlovsky said. "I'm not going to get surgery. I'm going to give it time to heal on its own and re-assess it in a couple of weeks. Letting it heal means not doing anything to hinder that healing process."
That means it is likely the Lions will have only two healthy quarterbacks for Sunday's game. Orlovsky could be listed as the team's No. 3 quarterback on gameday, but because of the risk in taking a snap or getting hit, Orlovsky probably won't play in any situation.
Drew Henson, who was the team's No. 3 quarterback last week, was released Wednesday when the Lions claimed receiver Adam Jennings off waivers from the Atlanta Falcons.
The Lions made the move to add some speed to their return game. Jennings returned 23 punts for the Falcons this season and could replace Shaun McDonald in that role Sunday.
Henson could have a future with the Lions, especially if Orlovsky goes on injured reserve in the next couple weeks. The Lions could re-sign Henson and he could take over the No. 3 role and the team could have him as part of the organization when the offseason workouts begin.
Orlovsky is on the final year of his contract but said that wasn't a consideration in determining whether to have surgery on his thumb. If Orlovsky isn't re-signed by the Lions, he said he will be healthy by the time unrestricted free agency rolls around in late February.
"The timeline is that I'll be fine. Even if it comes down to (waiting) three or four weeks and we re-assess where I'm at and I get the surgery, I'll still have plenty of time," Orlovsky said. "It's only a six-week (rehab). It's a simple procedure. I'll have plenty of time, but that's not really what's on my mind. My mind is (on) 'What do these coaches want me to do to prepare and help this team win?'
