Right now, resigning Norwood doesn't look like a good move.

I'm almost positive Norwood is due to be a free agent either in 2009 or 2010. I may change my mind on this one, but at this point I hope the Falcons let him walk. I imagine he will get pretty good money from some team. I just don't want the Falcons signing a second RB to a large, long term, veteran contract. Backup RB's should be filled with first contract guys and less expensive vets. Besides, he's not a guy who could handle 20+ carries a game if Turner ever got hurt. And don't tell me "he's never gotten a chance to carry the ball 20+ times a game!". He hasn't gotten a chance because NFL coaches can see he isn't a workhorse back. Fans who can't see it are in denial. Jason Snelling looks promising, Thomas Brown is still on the roster, and there's always the option of bringing in another RB this offseason or next. I'm curious what other fans think.

I love Norwood. He has played on his rookie contract without asking for anything. He made $300,000 a year. He deserves to be resigned and I don't think he would ask for much. He definitly could get a nice deal from someone but just like Jenkins I think he loves Atlanta and loves the team.

We still have another year before we have to make a decision, so he has one more year to again show his value to the team.

If I understand correctly, his contract runs out at the end of 2009. So we've got him for another year and a half, and then we can give him a reasonably high tender for his RFA year without much of a hit. So we've got Norwood til then end of 2010 without paying him any big money.

Then, by the start of the 2011 season, he'll be 28. By that point, I agree, it's probably not a good idea to throw big money at Norwood (or at any RB, for that matter). On the other hand, I can't see him being a prima donna about the cash, and he will have very limited tread on his tyres.

In any case, I don't see us worrying about this for at least another 2 years...

I like norwood because he compliments Turner very well, and he has a great attitude on things. He is not the guy who will get in trouble with the law. I like Snelling and Thomas Brown very much as well. What could we get for him in a trade maybe? A 4th?

I would hope we could get a 3rd from him considering his production. We got 2 for Shcaub as a backup so who knows. Its all what someone is willing to give up.

Gah who knows. For Schaub it is a little different though, since he's a QB the price for him goes up.
