Anyone have any hope that one of those 3 young DTs Talavou, Lamar Divens, or Brandon McKinney becomes anything special?

I personally am a big fan of McKinney when he gets in the game he is an absolutely immovable object for opposing OLmen. Talavou I don't really have alot of hopes for. I have very high hopes for Divens, however he is a walking injury so thats not a great start.

I'm a big McKinney fan too. I think we're really going to see him have a big year in 2010, as he has a shot to be the replacement for what Bannan/Edwards both did for us.

Bannan/Edwards are DEs in a 34, McKinney would be a NT. I would love to see Ngata and McKinney next to each other. tht would be reminiscent of Goose/Adams

I remember the Minnesota game when Ngata and McKinney were both in the game, it was beautiful. We were getting a rush up the middle and we made a game out of it. I don't think any of the three guys mentioned will be more than backups, but I do like McKinney a lot.

yeah, McKinney is definitely someone to look out for this coming season.

Also, in a 4-3 set, where would Paul Kruger line up?

In a 3-4, he'd be a DE right?

I assume Kruger would be the LDE, where most thought his fit at the next level would be last year when he was drafted (I'm sure i read that in Scott's scouting report on him). He'd still be small at DE in a 3-4 even if he put on 15 lbs., which would bring him up to 275ish.

I assume he would line up on the sidelines in street clothes as usual.

yeah, but being a smaller DE isn't all that bad, is it?

Wouldn't that benefit him when it comes to rushing the passer? He might be somewhat of a liability vs. the run though.

Not playing as a 3-4 end, where he would see double teams far more often. If he was playing more 1 vs. 1 it wouldn't be bad. There's a reason we don't see smaller 5 techniques.

oh alright, I kinda get what 34 DE's need to look like, Jared Odrick would be a beast for us. at 6-5 304, he's got amazing size and could play DT in the 43 and DE in the 34.

Jared Odrick in the first!!

The only question I have about Odrick is his ability to really play UT in a 4-3. Scott's scouting report on him really leads me to believing that he's much more of a 3-4 end than UT.

This shouldnt be a worry at all. Hes played his entire career as an UT. Just because hes capable of being a 5 Tech doesnt mean he has to play there. Just look at Richard Seymour. Odrick is more then capable of moving around on the Dline, make no mistake.

My biggest concern with Odrick is that he looks very very maxed out at 305. Not fat, mind you, just doesnt look like his frame can hold any more weight.

Oh I realize that he's played there his entire career at PSU, it's just that I'm not sold on him being effective there at the next level.

Where have we taken size to when 305 isn't big enough?! Trevor Pryce is not even 300lbs and he plays effective?

Look at the top pass rushers in the league
Mario Williams
Julius Peppers
Elvis Dumervil
Jared Allen
Dwight Freeney
Robert Mathis

All under 300lbs? Odrick projects to play DE at the next level not DT listen to all the draft experts out there its always "he can play DT but he has the explosiveness to play the edge on the D Line"

So don't be worried about weighing 325+ the Ravens in particular are not in need of that defensive lineman we need someone on the edge to put pressure on the QB in a big way.

What? Odrick will not be playing DE in a 4-3 scheme. His technique is just not that of an edge rusher. Sure he could probably play there for a specific play or such, but that can be said of any player. Where the hell did you hear he could play DE (unless you're talking about a 3-4 which is where he'd play, and what the "experts" are referring to).

Im VERY aware of how the NFL defensive line works, and who would play where in what system. Let me assure you, Jared Odrick will in no way shape or form be playing DE in a 4-3. He will play the "DE", or 5 tech, in a 3-4, which we run (at least for the time being), but he is absolutely not a stereotypical DE.

When I talked about his frame being maxed out, it just means he cant get any bigger, which limits his versatility for the coaching staff. Obviously, Ngata is more then capable of playing the nose, so it isnt a big deal, but it seems like 305 is the very top for Odrick. Comparing Odrick to the players you listed is oh so stupid, as he has nothing in common with any of them. Please, next time you come in attempting to critique my post and tell me Im wrong, know what you are talking about first.

yeah, I was pretty pissed when I saw that. How does that happen, we lost Bart Scott and Jason Brown. I woulda thought we would have got a 5th at the best.

Here's my reasoning for the lack of picks:

Matt Birk offsets Jason Brown

Foxworth offsets Bart Scott

Chris Carr offsets Jim Leonard

L.J. Smith offsets Kyle Boller

Meanwhile, in hockey the other night, the Washington Capitals' Eric Belanger gets hit with a stick, loses EIGHT teeth, has an instant root canal in the locker room, comes back out and PLAYS and never says boo.

So new rule, NBA: Unless you have a root canal at halftime, SHUT UP AND PLAY!

Not really surprised or upset. Net value picks are only given out if there aren't enough of the normal compensation picks given out. Besides, the only pick we would have got probably would have been near the one that Mr. Irrelevant is taken with.

Baltimoreravens.com reports that Syracuse WR Mike Williams is visting the Ravens. If we spend anything more then a 6th on him I will be pissed.
