Anyone else think Bill Cowher won't live up to the hype at his next job?
Yeah, I know he won a Super Bowl with the Steelers and his players loved him, but I don't buy into him as this super coach who will turn around whatever team hires him. The Steelers are a well run organization all around and they don't seem to miss him much. Some fans, media and even NFL teams seem to think he's the best coaching candidate out there, but I'm not convinced. Thoughts?

based on the success of "rookie coaches" this year, I don't see why an organization should CONVINCE Cowher to come back (he could coach one year and then leave) and then pay him a ridiculous amount of money.
but I won't answer your question because it depends on the team (which is undecided) too much.

well, he'd be a great fit to a team who needs someone to come in and take control, establish order and run things the way he wants them run. A team where the players think they run the place.

If he gets full control over a team like he wants then he will live up to the hype.

Yeah, I agree it really depends on where he goes to coach and the situation he is put in. I think he could really help out Denver.

I too think it's a bit ridiculous that people think Cowher can come in and save a franchise immediately. I realize we had 3 teams turn around this year (Miami, Baltimore, Atlanta) but that doesn't happen very often. It takes time to build a team, especially if your the kind of coach who builds around your own mold rather than building around what you've already got.
I feel like Cowher will quickly try to turn any team he coaches into a run first type team, regardless of whoever is at QB. And while that is a proven formula for success, some teams are built for a more balanced attack that don't necessarily have the personnel to do exactly what Cowher wants.
So to summarize: I think Cowher could be a good team out of any franchise in the league, but it would take him much longer to do it with some teams rather than others.

I don't think he's coming back this year unless he gets a ridiculous offer. He wants his youngest daughter to finish high school first

I think Cowher would be a good coach for any team but i dont think he can take a bad team and make them really good right away. but if you want a automatic impact on your team from a tough coach who dont take no crap and that will bring some discipline to your team(Cowboys) id go cowher

She's a senior this year, she'll be done before he'd get to a new job.
He really likes it here though from what I've heard.

The thing is, he is so desired that he can wait for an awesome situation to walk into. Because of that, I think he will live up to the hype.
Just imagine that Childress gets fired. Cowher signs up for the job, comes in, signs Kurt Warner. Instant Super Bowl appearance.

Once again, Cowher DOES NOT want full control. He just wants his own guy in at GM. His likely choice? His old buddy Marty Schottenheimer.

Big time Championships. He'll probably be back coaching next year and is going to do wonders.

I think he will come back and do well given a decent situation. He's not the "savior" he's being billed as by the media but he's still a hell of a football coach who can put a team together.
