While Jets LT D'Brickashaw Ferguson isn't exactly built to be a road grater, he clearly has lots of room for improvement in the run game. D'Brick is effective in pass pro, but hasn't lived up to his fourth overall pick billing from 2006.

Sorry but that's not where you want your name to be mentioned for a potential franchise LT, I've seen a few games of his, and he's certainly a solid young tackle that is still learning, but I haven't seen anything that leads me to believe he will be an elite LT or top tier in the NFL for that matter.
It's not really a myth he struggled in run blocking, that frankly that's a huge part of playing the LT position as well.

0 Elite LTs currently...but alot of young ones and a few elite should come out of the group.
Joe Staley really did play at a high level at the end of the year after O'sullivan was benched....He was also settling in at LT as he played RT his rookie year.
Whether he will become elite or not is up in the air, but he already is a good one.

D'Brick was terrible last year and was ok this year. showed good strides but really not close to elite franchise LT status...

Walter Jones may not be "elite" anymore but he still only allowed like 3.5 sacks all season.. Of course D-Ware ****** him up though lol.

After 2008 everyone will say Joe Thomas is the best tackle in the NFL. Ryan Clady I think could be elite too.

D'Brick is a pretty good player, and is only getting better, but he probably isn't even the 10th best LT in the league.
And I'm a Jets fan.

We went through a span where 3 or 4 of the best and most talented LT's in NFL history were always in a class of their own. Those guys have retired or on the tail end of their careers. There are no elite LT left in the NFL. I don't see any LT's who talented enough to be considered franchise elite left tackles. But with two strong classes of OT's, there could be a couple of new ones in th years to come.

Well yea...name a Jets play Jets fans rank high. D'Brick was better than that last year. Tackle play was down in general, but I'm really...pretend shocked everyone thinks he's meh here.
Eh. It is what it is.

Media made it seem like Joe Thomas had a worse year than he did.

[quote=BeerBaron;1418916]At first I was just dismissing your comment as a hater then I realized you were a Saints fan.....
....so......
Why? I though Brown was pretty good all around. What am I missing?

Well not my discussion but I think you are saying it yourself. The guy is pretty good but has real trouble with guys like abraham and peppers. To me his lateral movement is just to limited. Not that I'm saying he is a bad LT but he isnt great at all. I really hope we find a great LT somewhere cause he would be the most awesomest RT in the league

I think Jamaal Brown has actually become underrated around here. I'd wait on this though. Jake Long, Albert, Baker, and Clady all looked quite good this year. Not to mention someone like Gaither.

You have three Saints' fans telling you the same thing. Trust us.

I've seen plenty of the Saints. He's not as amazing as he was hyped up to be a year or so ago, but he's better then what you guys are giving him credit for. Everyone is going to struggle with Abraham and Peppers if that's what you are mainly judging on... although I will agree that Brees' best protection is himself.

eh, I'm not sure I'd really call him "elite". He's very good, yes, but I'm not much of a fan of him. Maybe it's because I lost alot of respect for him after his dirty ass cheap shot...

Also, most of the time our line got owned it was because of Shaffer and Hadnot, not really Thomas, and when it was Thomas it was against an amazing pass rusher, but that happens.

Joe Staley is not at that level yet. I think he might earn his way into the conversation with a great season next year.

I don't think that was just the media, he did by all accounts have a down year compared to the year before, he was solid, but his play was nowhere near the level of the previous...That doesn't mean he's not a great LT, but consistency is what you want to see from franchise LT's, consistently dominating year in and out.
Guys like Clady, Long, Thomas, Peters, Staley, I just need to see that consistency from before being praised too much from one good season.

Nice try, but Lawrence Taylor hasn't played in 15 years.
Fail.

And based on last year they had a great case. This year after missing camp he's been off his game and malcontent.
I'd pick Michael Roos as the best LT in the game right now. Kid just does it all and is a big reason why Tennessee has the league's best oline.
