Default Trade LaDainian Tomlinson: but to WHO for WHAT?

I thought the Bolts should have cashed in LT last year and gone with the fresh legs of the Burner instead. They got nothing for the Burner, but could have gotten some nice parting gifts for LT after all his high mileage.

Anyway, it's too late for that but I think they should trade LT this off-season, and use a 2nd or 3rd round pick on a new RB. Guys like Forte and Slaton, etc. can be found after the 1st round. Perhaps a gem falls to them in round 1, who knows.

But my questions to you guys are:

A) What team would be in the market for LaDanian Tomlinson
B) What would LT fetch in trade value?

The normal suckers for robberie trades are Dallas and Oakland, Minny perhaps, but they're set at that position.

I don't think SD is trading LT at all. What makes you think this? I think they resign Sproles personally and make him the successor then adding a complement back once LT is gone.

I don't really know if San Diego can get much for Tomlinson considering his age and contract. Maybe they could get a 3rd rounder.

This is getting annoying. A LT not having an elite season is better than most starting backs in the league, why would we trade him. Its like deja vu everytime i see someone say this.

LT has let them down 2 straight years of the playoffs.
He has little tread left in my opinion.
I've had him in my keeper league for his best 4 years, but I cashed him in on our draft day last August. He's not the same. But if you could get a #2 pick for him, from some desperate team that thinks their just a RB away from contention, then they should do it.

The funny thing is, the team that comes to mind is their bitter rival, the Broncos.

Cleveland could use him. So could Cincinnati. But those teams aren't close to contending, although the media thought the Brownies were 5 months ago. I don't see much of a market.....

Because he has not been able to answer the bell for 2 straight playoffs. That's when teams need their horses, and he's been a lame duck instead for 2 in a row, and he'll only be older next time.

I'd cash him in now before his stock plummets like IMG. It might already be too late, but there's usually a sucker out there that will overpay for the brand name.

The Chargers are my 2nd fav team. Turner ran better than he did their last year together, and clearly Sproles did too. Sproles looked twice as fast as LT. LT tip-toes now unless there's a wide open hole right from the get go.

Once you start making threads you sure do get on a roll don't you?

LT isn't getting traded, he's probably a 1st ballot HOFer and you don't just trade those guys away when they get a little bit older, I'm sure the Chargers aren't even thinking of trading him.

I am pretty sure LT didn't wake up one day and go "Hey lets go tear a groin and miss the playoffs!"

You do know hes been struggling with an injury this season and then got re injured going into the playoffs. Its not like hes not performing in the playoffs its because he wasnt able to. Why would we trade a RB that can still put up 1000 yd season. The reason Sproles and Turner ran so well is because they came in to give LT the break he needed, after him pounding the ball. You make an assumption about LT in one season and everyone is freaking out saying oh LT is way too old, he wont be able to be that elite type back he used to be. You and everyone else has said it this season and Its getting real annoying.

Plenty. Perhaps you should spend less time making new threads and more time learning the difference between you're and your.

I severely doubt Tomlinson will be traded. He'll use the off-season to get healthy again and return to form next year. There's not going to be much of a market for him since he's coming off a down year and will be 30 to start next year. Might as well hope he gets healthy since they wouldn't get jack for him on the market.

My question was what could the Chargers command in a trade of LT.
Many HOFers have been traded.
It's a business. Ask Favre. Aske Edge.

It isnt even a thought of him being traded in SD, so you making this pointless thread after seeing LT not putting up those elite numbers this year, and just say hey i think its time we trade our hall of fame runningback.

The only reason to trade Tomlinson would be to clear cap space in order to help resign some of their players. Sproles, McNeil, Rivers, Merriman, Igor, and Cromartie are all need to be resigned or replaced in the next 2 years. San Diego has a lot of players to pay.

They will resign Sproles and keep LT. I doubt they would fetch more than a 4th rounder for him anyway. Why? Big contract, seems to be on the decline

Shaun Alexander Yards Per Carry
2003- 4.4
2004- 4.8
2005- 5.1 (MVP)
2006- 3.6
2007- 3.5
2008- released

Tomlinson Yards Per Carry
2003- 5.3
2004- 3.9
2005- 4.3
2006- 5.2 (MVP)
2007- 4.7
2008- 3.8

LT wouldn't be the first RB who's gone from great to mediocre to ineffective over a 2 year period or less.
See Shaun Alexander, Ahman Green, Curtis Martin.

It's a business. I know we fans hate that, but that's the bottom line.
If the Chargers could get a #2 for him, they should. That's what I am trying to guage here. Could they get a 1, a 2, a 3? What?
Where are the fans from teams who need a RB?
What would you cough up for LT?

It's the same with the talk about trading Boldin. Some people say "no way". Others say do it.

Those are facts.
So is his contract #.
I know fans love to ignore those things sometimes, but it happens more than you care to admit.

Look at all the good players who were let go by their previous teams.

LT's play has certainly declined, but the play of the O-line gets overlooked when looking at a running backs performance. The Chargers O-line played miserably this season, and the fact that LT was still able to run for 1,000 yards is amazing and shows he's certainly capable of duplicating another 1,000 yard season. I think if we re-sign Sproles or acquire another quality running back and give them more playing time, it should preserve LT at least another couple years. We'll see what transpires in the off-season, but I can guarantee you that if LT gets traded there's going to be riots in the streets and I might join in.

Some fans, the younger ones usually, really struggle with that concept. They have a hard time letting go, a hard time with change.

Joe Montana
Emmitt Smith
Jerry Rice
Brett Favre
Reggie White

5 recent superhero caliber guys. They didn't end up on the team that they earned the HOF for. If it happened to those guys, it CAN happen to LT. Will it, you and I don't know.
I was asking fans of teams who need a RB what they would pay for LT.
Apparently that's too hard for some people to grasp. Especially the grapes.
