Rex Ryan to the Jets
According to the ticker on ESPNews, Chris Mortensen reports he will accept the Jets HC spot.

This might start an exile of Ravens defenders to the Jets. Many Ravens consider Rex Ryan the head coach.

I think they respect Ray Lewis more than they do Ryan.

So if Lewis follows Ryan the whole defense goes!

Unfortunately the Jets are currently around 10 million over the cap as far as I know. Favre retiring brings it 3 under and they do have some dead weight they can save money with but they won't have the money to bring in too many guys.
As a Jets fan though, I love the hire.

I think the Jets have enough talent on that defense to make something work with Ryan. They need to get rid of the dead money they have and get under the cap. If Favre retires, i'm not sure what they're gonna do at quarterback without much money to wiggle around in FA.

I'm really thinking that if a QB might be on the board (Mark Sanchez being the most likely candidate), I think they would take a flier. I really think that this previous season was Favre's final, even though he has been known to be on the fence many times before.

They have the solution on their roster already: BRETT RATLIFF!

Man, I really hope Ray doesn't follow him, that would be a NIGHTMARE scenario for me!!

Brett Ratliff really wouldn't be a bad QB as much as people may joke about him. There will be growing pains, even the best go through them, but if he gets a shot I can see them competing.

Ray Lewis wont be following him, but you can bet your ass if someone like Bart Scott hits FA, NY is a pretty likely place for him to wind up.
Im sad to see Rex go, but he has done wonders this year and really does deserve a HC job. I dont know who we sign or promote to DC now..maybe mike nolan comes back? :D We will have to wait and see, but best of luck to Rex in NY.

Ratliff and Clowney are the second coming of Namath and Maynard
The Jets don't need a QB or WR

Watching the Redskins somehow get under the cap for like five years I'm pretty sure we'll find a way and I'm pretty sure we'd find a way to sign a Raven if need be.
Or you know, get the best QB on their roster.

"If Ryan leaves, look for him to take several Ravens coaches with him, including linebackers coach Mike Pettine, who would become the Jets' defensive coordinator"

I wouldn't be surprised to see Ray Lewis finish his career somewhere else... He has to want another ring and that offense just doesn't cut it, if he can go to another team with a good offense, he could be a great leader for whatever defense he goes to.
Imagine if Ray Lewis went to Pittsburgh....
Wow.

Well first, didn't they just give him a contract extension? Second, he means so much to that team and that defense, that there's no way i can see him wanting to leave to another team. They just played in the AFC championship game with an improving rookie at quarterback, and yet again very little talent at the WR position. They need to bring in some youth at the CB spot and some legit talent at WR, and they're right in the hunt of things again next year. I don't see why he would want to leave.

The Jets don't have the cap room for that. And if they let Favre go, they still wouldn't have enough money for it.

I thought there were rumors about an extension but it never happened, not sure though.

Mason, Anderson, Stover, Pryce, Lewis, Reed, McCallister, Rolle are aging, and can they afford Suggs?
Lewis can't have more than 1-2 years left if he doesn't retire and frankly...
As far as I recall..
Suggs, Brown, Lewis, Scott, Boller, Neal, Wilcox, Stover, Edwards, Cody, Ivy are UFA's..
Landry, Martin, Sypniewski are RFA's.
Not to mention He's losing a top 3 Defensive Coordinator and his positional coach. Not to mention if he takes Jackson... in his first 2 years Flacco will have 2 different QB coaches.
