Calvin Johnson's season was more impressive than any Andre has ever put up, the argument is always supporting cast for Andre, but his wasn't nearly as bad as Calvin's, and he still put up 4 more TD's than Andre ever has, more yards than he ever had up until this past season, and his yards per catch was a lot better.
Do people realize Andre has never had more than 8 TD's, and he hasn't cracked 1200 yards until this last year? I'm not even so sure I'd put him over Boldin just yet.

I would like to know how many of Calvin's yards/TDs came in meaningful games last year instead of garbage time during an 0-16 season when all the QB is dooing is throwing the ball. The Texans were competitive all year long for two straight seasons and the reason was Andre Johnson.
If I see Calvin comes out ahead, I might change my tune a bit and get these guys closer together.

Like half of their games were decided by 10 points or less. Calvin wasn't running around piling up TD's when they were blown out, and most of the time in blowouts he probably wasn't on the field at all.
That's the same kind of cop out arguments people used against Andre when teh Texans were horrible.
On a side note, anyone find it funny that Detroit was 4-0 in the preseason?

If we're basing the best receivers off of streaks then Holmes is right up there with the hot streaks of this year but lets not remember that he sucked the first half of the year. To be considered one of the top receivers, the least you could do is be consistent.

Just shows you how absolutely meaningless the preseason is.

The first 5 WR's I'd want for next year...since the NFL is apparently a year by year league now:
1. Andre Johnson
2. Larry Fitzgerald
3. Calvin Johnson
4. Randy Moss
5. Steve Smith
Calvin Johnson will be #1 if he puts up a season or two like he just did.

Bunch of monsters in terms of size and then little Steve.
Nice avatar btw.
Santonio Holmes seemed to have pulled a Deion Branch in the superbowl, I think he played out of his mind and little above his prior ability. He has the talent to do that, but it remains to be seen if he can keep it up.
You also have to factor in he made plays on a lot of "broken" coverages because of Ben's running. Man, if any of those receivers up there had that they would be ridiculous.

Andre Johnson is top 5 but he's not better than smith or Moss or for that matter Fitzgerald who deserves the top spot.
Calvin Johnson being above Moss and Smith is a huge overrate.
1. Larry Fitzgerald, Randy Moss, Steve Smith
4. Andre Johnson
5. Calvin Johnson

Experience, knowledge of the game, recognition, route running ability, ability to navigate traffic, ability to play in high pressure.
All of these things Moss has over Johnson... All of these things Smith, Fitz and Moss have over the other two.

blah blah, Steve Smith is a god and so on. I wonder how many threads there are on this forum without a panther being mentioned as the best of all time at his position.
Id guess 3.

You know who else has that over Calvin? Torry Holt. Sure as hell doesn't make him better.

Still waiting on a compelling argument on why Andre is the best receiver in the league. He's NOT better than Fitzgerald, and I think people are picking him for his physical abilities, but it doesn't matter because he doesn't top Larry or Calvin in yards per catch, and he's not as good as a redzone threat. The only thing he has going for him right now is that he had the ball thrown to him a whole lot more this year, and every other year his numbers were pretty mediocre for a guy in the discussion for top receiver.

Mediocre? Look a the stats. I am not posting them look for yourself please. Yard per catch matter that much then Bernard Berrian > Wes Welker

It is really amazing how far Holt has fallen. Sure, he is certainantly not a top ten guy anymore, but putting a guy like Bernard Berrian in the top 20 over Holt, oh phhhhlease.

Because let's see Calvin Johnson do this more than once! If you want to say Fitz should be ahead, that's fine. Let's make certain we are not looking at a one-hit wonder.
We are very quick to crown the last thing we saw as the greatest thing ever. Are the Cardinals now the best team in the NFC because of a ridiculous run? No! Let's see them do something close to it next year.
Andre Johnson already has 3 Pro Bowl appearances and a 1st-team All Pro. It would be four without the '07 injury that he battled all year.
