I think restructuring Culpepper's deal was the writing on the wall for the drafting of Stafford..

Default Johnson & Johnson

He isn't Nate Washington, but I'm OK with this signing.

I kinda hope we sign a #3 WR as well. Someone who can return kicks and punts.
I agree. Johnson & Johnson (that's funny there!) are both very tall WR's and are not known for gettting out of their breaks like a smaller, shiftier slot WR. I'm not saying they are not fast, especially not saying that about Calvin, but a player like Washington would be a great #3 slot guy if we could ink a deal.
A late round draft pick would work for me too, if spent on an over the middle, possesion type WR.

However if I were Washington, picking to stay a #3 WR in Pittsburgh or becoming a #3 WR in Detroit would be a no brainer for me. Sorry all you die hard Lions fans ;o)

As for a kick returner, Chris Carr from the Titans would help here and be a solid CB for Detroit. What happened with the talks with him ... has anyone heard?
Also, Jim Leonhard from the Ravens could return punts and be our SS for cheap if he is still available.

Looks to me that Mayhew is learning on the job and will wait till next year before going all out in FA. I'll say this, he has picked an excellent trading partner in Jerry Jones who hasn't won a SB in 12 years since he let Jimmy Johnson go and squeezed another SB victory out of Switzer using Jimmy Johnson's players. Since then, they have done nothing since he became GM and since he is likely to make rash moves, Mayhew has done well in his dealings with Jerry.

Damn it. I didn't even realize we just signed another Wideout named Johnson.

LAME! I bet CJ isn't happy, haha.

Then we just need to go get Shaun Rogers if he becomes available.

Haha good point. Thats the key to being an NFL GM, find the biggest dope out there. I'm sure many teams especially the Broncos were looking for a new Tard GM to trade with now that Millen is gone. Heck we almost got a great deal for Cutler, but Denver was like wait a minute, this isn't Millen, we're gonna get screwed losing Cutler.

That makes a ton of sense. Good for him. I hope he's successful after this franchise did him wrong, haha.

This franchise didn't do him wrong. He didn't earn the starting job because Kitan was better than him in 06 and 07. When Kitna went down, he had his chance and he didn't win a game, although he played ok at times but never incredible but sometimes poorly. They brought in Daunte and Dan O was hurt, when he got healthy again he was the starter again because he gave us the best chance to win with Daunte not knowing the play book that well.

Hope he does well and he'll probably get to play some if Schaub continues to have injury problems. But he won't be missed once we hopefully draft Stafford. Dan Who?

Micheal Clayton got a deal for something like 5yrs $26 mill. Supposedly the Lions offered more but he wanted to stay with Tampa. If thats the case I'm glad we didnt get him, IMO thats vway too expensive for a guy that hasnt had a good season in 5 yrs.

Agreed. I wasn't thrilled with Michael Clayton. I'm a little more geeked about Nate Washington but even if we miss out on him, it won't be a total loss.

yeah, me too. Washington is in Tennessee right now, but maybe we get lucky and sign him.

Also Carr visited today and Philip Buchanon visits tonight, so we might sign a CB soon

There's a rumor out there that the Jaguars are trying to trade John Henderson to the Lions for Calvin Johnson, with certain picks possibly included.

Apparently it's only radio fodder of now, so I doubt it.

It was supposed to be the Jags 1st, Henderson, and Reggie Nelson for Johnson I thought.

No. I'll never trade CJ. Never ever.

Though that would be tempting.

No way on that trade.

John Henderson is 30 years old and since Stroud left has been struggling. Doesn't he have injury concerns. Nelson hasn't really done anything special and we have two young safeties in Bullocks/Alexander and the Jags pick is not a sure thing by any means. CJ is a sure thing and the only good thing we have on our team. Mayhew better just laugh at the Jags.

I don't think the Jags have enough on their roster to trade CJ away. Nobody on the Oline the Lions could use, Henderson is old, Nelson is decent but not great, Harvey didn't do much last year, Jones Drew is a good back but teaming him with Kevin Smith with no Oline won't amount to much and backs burn up quick in this league. The Jaguars could offer their whole roster and I still wouldn't trade Calvin.

People are saying that a QB at #1 is to much money. Imagine the amount of money in guaranteed contracts that would be given out with 3 #1's.

We're paying Calvin more than what we'd be paying the Jag pick. So we'd be paying less than what we are now if we made the trade. However, no way we should trade Calvin. No way.

1st round pick for the next 50 years. Thats the only compenstation acceptable.
