He put up almost 1200 yards as a rookie...that's quite a bit more than filling in "admirably".

Well I guess I remembered incorrectly.
Correct me if I'm wrong on this statement:
The Bucs were a good team that year and their passing attack was very productive. Then 1 or 2 of their starting receivers got hurt and Clayton was starter by default, best of a depleted depth chart. He stepped into an already productive system and put up respectable numbers. Thus, a lot of his production can be attributed to a system.
Once they got some healthy receivers though, he barely saw the field.

I'm pretty sure that was the year Keyshawn Johnson got deactivated. Or maybe it was the year after. Either way, Clayton was the starter for the whole season and the #1 guy for most of it.
Production in our WCO is not "system" production at all. It's not like we consistently have league-leading WRs here. What Antonio Bryant did last year was nothing short of beastly. Yardage and TDs (especially) are earned in this offense, not given.
Our offense was consistently bad with a horrible supporting cast. Clayton's rookie year was very much his doing.

Clayton's rookie year wasn't a fluke, he was beastly from the get go, and a big reason they were okay with trading Keenan McCardell IIRC.
I am coming around to this signing, especially if Bryant continues to rock. Continuity in the WR corps is going to kickstart the Josh Johnson era and usher in a new golden age for the NFL.

I see were you are coming from this but...a lot of Tampa Bay fans seem to want Mark Sanchez which would pretty much take Josh Johnson out of the equation...
