Default 1st-rd Mock 3/6/07 from a Pats fan with FULL ANALYSIS!

1. OAKLAND RAIDERS- JaMarcus Russell QB LSU
Ultimately you have to begin with a QB to rebuild one of the worst offenses in recent memory.
2. DETROIT LIONS- Joe Thomas OT Wisconsin
If Jon Kitna's really their guy then they have to give him some protection.
3. CLEVELAND BROWNS- Adrian Peterson RB Oklahoma
Has some durabilty issues but Peterson is just too good to be true, and the Browns are still looking for playmakers on offense. Look for Joe Thomas here as another possibility though.
4. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS- Calvin Johnson WR Georgia Tech
The best player in the draft at number 4? This pick takes 30 seconds to hand in the envelope and Jon Gruden is druling over the thought of building his passing game around the best receiver prospect in years.
5. ARIZONA CARDINALS- Gaines Adams DE Clemson
They would love to trade up for Joe Thomas or trade down for Levi Brown, but they also are in dire need of an impact pass rusher.
6. WASHINGTON REDSKINS- Alan Branch DT Michigan
A big man in the middle to stabilize a defense that vastly underperformed in relation to the money spent.
7. MINNESOTA VIKINGS- Brady Quinn QB Notre Dame
Tavaris Jackson was a second-rounder last year but he's a long way away, and Quinn at number 7 is too good to pass up.
8. HOUSTON TEXANS- Levi Brown OT Penn State
Throughout their existence they have never found a stud Tackle and it's time they gave Carr (or someone else) some protection. Look for Quinn as another possibility here if he slips this far.
9. MIAMI DOLPHINS- LaRon Landry S LSU
The best defensive player in the draft at number 9? The defense is aging, and after solidifying the opposite side of Jason Taylor with Joey Porter, they now look for a stud player in the secondary.
10. ATLANTA FALCONS- Jamaal Anderson DE Arkansas
Patrick Kerney's replacement, but DB (Landry, Hall) or WR (Ginn, Jarrett) are also possibilities.
11. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS- Ted Ginn, Jr. WR Ohio State
Gives Alex Smith more weapons to play with, and his world-class speed can really scare defenses into giving Vernon Davis and Frank Gore space to run.
12. BUFFALO BILLS- Leon Hall CB Michigan
Nate Clement's replacement and even though he was already the number 1 CB prospect his stock is rising.
13. ST. LOUIS RAMS- Amobi Okoye DT Louisville
Another DT, but it proves that they haven't struck gold yet, and this 20-year-old has more upside than anyone in the draft.
14. CAROLINA PANTHERS- Patrick Willis ILB Ole Miss
Dan Morgan is no lock to return and Will Witherspoon's departure still hurts on an underachieving team. If at all possible, if Brady Quinn slips this far (think Aaron Rodgers), there will be no debate with this pick.
15. PITTSBURGH STEELERS- Adam Carriker DL Nebraska
With the switch to the 4-3 under Tomlin, Carriker can play Tackle, but can also be a force at 3-4 end if they ever show their old looks from that system.
16. GREEN BAY PACKERS- Marshawn Lynch RB Cal
A no-brainer after Ahman Green's inevitable departure, and relieves some pressure off of Brett Favre and an offense on the rise.
17. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS- Reggie Nelson S Florida
Donovan Darius is nearing the end of his career and Deon Grant is no sure-thing to return, and the Jags could use another playmaker on defense. WR and LB are also possibilities here.
18. CINCINNATI BENGALS- Chris Houston CB Arkansas
Tory James and Deltha O'Neal both had terrible years, and Houston's stock is rising more than anyone after the combine he had. His addition would make a tremendous and young 1-2 punch with Jonathan Joseph, last year's 1st round pick.
19. TENNESSEE TITANS- Dwayne Jarrett WR USC
Drew Bennett is gone, David Givens was hurt most of the season, and Vince Young can't do it all to his legs. Jarrett is a huge target and was extremely productive in college. If Marshawn Lynch is still available, he may get a strong look as well after Travis Henry's release.
20. NEW YORK GIANTS- Lawrence Timmons OLB Florida State
Marshawn Lynch would be slotted here if still available, but after losing getting rid of both starting OLB, this one seems like a no-brainer, but Jon Beason or Patrick Willis (if still available) are also possibilities.
21. DENVER BRONCOS- Jarvis Moss DE Florida
A pass rusher is the answer here after solidifying RB (Travis Henry) and the empty starting CB slot (Dre' Bly), although OL is never out of the question.
22. DALLAS COWBOYS- Darrelle Revis CB Pittsburgh
Anthony Henry is moving to Free Safety and they could use a playmaker in the coverage to complement Roy Williams' in-the-box style.
23. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS- Justin Blalock G Texas
Will Shields' replacement can learn from the best, and they need help badly anyway, being unable to replace Willie Roaf all last season.
24. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (f/SEA)- Jon Beason LB The U
Now that OLB has been filled with the versatile playmaker Adalius Thomas, I am convinced that the Pats are looking for a playmaking inside 'backer as a complement and as a trainee. They would love Beason to learn from Tedy Bruschi, and he is similar to former Rookie of the Year Johnathan Vilma from the Jets. Never leave WR or DB out of the question either.
25. NEW YORK JETS- Paul Posluszny LB Penn State
Eric Mangini has put the offense together brilliantly by adding Thomas Jones, and now they look to the defense with a guy who can play inside in the 3-4 or outside in the 4-3.
26. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES- Robert Meachem WR Tennessee
Stallworth has one foot out the door and McNabb needs a go-to guy, and that is what Meachem can become.
27. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS- Marcus McCauley CB Fresno State
Their offense is set, and their secondary could use some young playmakers.
28. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS- Brandon Meriweather S The U
A coincidence that both NE picks are from The U, but Meriweather is a tremendous athlete that is a 1st-rounder if he can sort out both on and off-the-field issues. Rodney Harrison's replacement who also provides some much-needed depth in the secondary.
29. BALTIMORE RAVENS- Joe Staley OT Central Michigan
The Ravens are the one team where I had trouble finding a truly needy position, but with Johnathan Odgen approaching the end of his career, Staley is the pick.
30. SAN DIEGO CHARGERS- Michael Griffin S Texas
Terrance Kiel was let go and they could use a playmaker in the secondary anyway. He may be overshadowed a little by other Safetys in this draft but he is a stud. WR is also a possibility here (Dwayne Bowe, Sidney Rice, Meachem, Jason Hill)
31. CHICAGO BEARS- Greg Olsen TE The U
With Briggs' return the defense is set, but they could use a good complement to Berrian and Muhammed, and Rex Grossman needs all the help he can get. Olsen is far and away the best TE in this draft.
32. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS- Aaron Ross CB Texas
DT is a need with Corey Simon's future unknown and OLB is also a need, but there is not good value here, so a playmaking Corner is the pick here to replace Nick Harper if he doesn't return, and Ross also provides some depth: remember, Bob Sanders only played 4 games last year, and Marlin Jackson had to play a lot of Safety.

Even if Donte is gone, we have MUCH more important needs than anything on offense for the first round. We really need saafety help, and Griffin would be our pick. He would be our furute (A hint of dyslexia there I think) SS and would fill our biggest need by far.

4. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS- Calvin Johnson WR Georgia Tech
The best player in the draft at number 4? This pick takes 30 seconds to hand in the envelope and Jon Gruden is druling over the thought of building his passing game around the best receiver prospect in years.

Unless Cleveland skips their pick, this selecction will take 10-14 ******s for no good reason. This I know from experience.

7. MINNESOTA VIKINGS- Brady Quinn QB Notre Dame
Tavaris Jackson was a second-rounder last year but he's a long way away, and Quinn at number 7 is too good to pass up.

So far as I know, this would make the Vikings the first team in over twenty years to draft a QB in th firat two rounds in back to back years. And Jackson doesn't have a chronic gambling problem either (Art Schlichter reference there).

25. NEW YORK JETS- Paul Posluszny LB Penn State
Eric Mangini has put the offense together brilliantly by adding Thomas Jones, and now they look to the defense with a guy who can play inside in the 3-4 or outside in the 4-3.

Unless they're planning to let Eric Barton and/or Victor Hobson go, it does't seem to me like they need a 4-3 OLB/3-4 ILB.

29. BALTIMORE RAVENS- Joe Staley OT Central Michigan
The Ravens are the one team where I had trouble finding a truly needy position, but with Johnathan Odgen approaching the end of his career, Staley is the pick.

So much for Adam Terry then?

Over the past 2 years, the Colts have drafted Marlin Jackson, Kelvin Hayden and Tim Jennings in the first two rounds.

9. MIAMI DOLPHINS- LaRon Landry S LSU
The best defensive player in the draft at number 9? The defense is aging, and after solidifying the opposite side of Jason Taylor with Joey Porter, they now look for a stud player in the secondary.

if they feel that Allen is a better fit at CB then I like the pick.

Unless Cleveland skips their pick, this selecction will take 10-14 ******s for no good reason. This I know from experience.

Yeah I hate how a team goes on the clock with the obvious pick there and waits the full 15. I also hate how the word min*te is banned. Good Bucs pick. The Colts don't need a CB at all.
