the fact that he's running so much means that he's not seeing the field.

ANOTHER SACK??? Turn out the lights. The party's over.

other than jarmon there isnt a player on this defense that looks like he deserves a roster spot right now. jarmon had a nice tackle in the backfield on a run but next play ravens get a 15 yard first down on third and long.

zorn sure looks pissed on the sideline. at least orakpo and jarmon looked amazing out there.

backup oline = pitiful.

backup secondary and backup linebackers are bad. we will have a top 5 starting defense but injuries could kill us because our depth is bad.

none of the quarterbacks stood out. campbell a couple completions and a couple passes he missed. collins a few completions, a few missed oppurtunities, a should have been interception on a real bad pass, but a good completion percentage mostly off of screens. colt zero time in the pocket with pressure. got hit on his interception and had to throw a handful away under distress. it did seem like he got a bit nervous by the pressure and reverted to running the ball or running for his life.

for some reason we didnt even attempt to establish any sort of running game which didnt help any of the qbs. seemed like zorn was making all the qbs throw the whole game to test them but its harder to throw without a run game.

zorn presser - "in colts defense we had to throw the ball and couldnt run it down that many points and they teed up on him. pretty much an onslaught rushing our group. im sure colt will look at this film and see things that he will want to maybe do different next time but its a good way for him to learn. i tried to extend the field but it didnt happen. tried some play action but the defense you could just see them saying 'i dont believe you will run the ball'. it makes it tough."

Wow. Zorn seems like he's defending Colt. Could've done the opposite and wouldn't have surprised me. Good coach.

some more qb detail from Redskins Confidential for those of you who missed the game:

"3. Colt Brennan looked, uh, not like the summer of '08. Brennan had it tough; even one staffer told him as he was in the locker room that no one could have succeeded behind that line. He admitted that the interception prevented im from taking chances later in the game. Brennan was off; he'd throw to his right only to discover that someone on the other side was open. And on the pick, he actually made the right read and throw. The problem was that the receiver, Marques Hagans, slipped. Also, he's small so the defensive back ripped through him for the pick. Perhaps a bigger guy would have been physical enough to either make the catch or break up a pick."

"5. Todd Collins looked the best of the QBs. Jason Campbell did not have a chance to get into a rhythm, though he missed a wide open Hagans on the left side. Campbell has a tough time throwing to the pint-sized receivers. Hagans is at least an inch shorter than his listed height of 5-foot-10. Collins looked the most comfortable. He had one throw to his right that was nearly intercepted. It appeared he could not step into the throw, but he still got lucky."

Man without Santana our wideouts are so pathetic. Also I still expect nothing than Devin and Malcolm this year other than some rare flashes.

That's what Zorn does, he protects his players. If Colt had done well he would break him down on his mistakes so he didn't get big headed as performing well as the #3 doesn't necessarily translates to actual results.

1. Hopefully this will quiet the "Colt for starter" talk for a little while, at least. He needs much more development before he even gets to #2 QB.

2. Agreed. As inconsistent as Moss is he is still the best WR on the team. It is way to early to have any talk of Thomas or Kelly relegating him to the bench.

There was never and will never be substance to Colt being starter this year. It's Jason's year. If he sucks it up than he's gone after this year and we most likely draft a QB first round next year. No one would actually expect Snyder to trust his teams future at QB with Colt Brennan.

I'd have to agree. The only time I see Brennan even possibly being a starter in this league is if he is able to stick on as a backup for many years, then following Zorn where ever he goes. Where Zorn goes, Brennan goes... and maybe one day he'll be ready.

My only question is... who will they draft after Jason fails. ...and he WILL fail. I don't see Bradford, McCoy or Tebow here. Snead perhaps? Yeah, I could see a trade up for him.

BTW Justin Tryon is the biggest bum ever. Even worst than last season. I'm tired of hearing about his speed. The guy just can't flat out play football. I don't care if you have speed to run down a guy you let have a 50 yard reception. He's not even that fast IMO. Also they are making excuses for him because he was matched up against taller guys, hello this is the friggin NFL. There aren't many sub 6 foot receivers out there. Richardson should make the roster.

Default Cut Brennan now!!!

Now Brennan has hooked up with Jessica Simpson?
http://gone-hollywood.com/2009/08/je...-colt-brennan/

Maybe this is BS but good God, we don't need this crap now. Simpson is poison.

Hah she went from the QB of Americas Team to Colt Brennan, yup she's used up trash.

He played off the edge at DE for like 4 or 5 plays and each of them basically where sacks as he made the QB throw the ball away as he was dragging him down. Still though he will probably end up the starting WLB beside London and Rocky who looked smooth. I was very surprised with Orakpo at LB though. He looked fairly fluid and instinctive in coverage. He had some nice coverage on Heap in the redzone. He was around the tackle on nearly every play. He was still a bit hesitant and sometimes slow making reads but as he gets more comfortable I actually think he could be a monster SLB who gets 5-8 sacks by playing rush end on 3rd downs. Also encouraging was to see Cornelius Griffin dominate guys again and get to the QB. Imagine with him and Fat Albert in the interior, how easy it will be for Andre Carter. Jeremy Jarmon looked really good also. Oh and Phillip Daniels really has reworked his body. He used to be a flubby chubber but he was looking swole out there. Still though the secondary was piss.

Still though the secondary was piss.
i hear you strip. guys like tryon and barnes didn't do much to help themselves get into the rotation but unfortunately we need one of them to step into the dime role. dhall i thought looked just fine. no passes were completed to his man and he made a great play on the goal line to stop a TD to Mason.

the way that rakpo, carter, and jarmon were getting into the backfield, im feeling confident that the starting secondary will be just fine once haynesworth is pushing the middle. as long as rogers and dhall can both stay healthy, im not worried. but if one goes down with an injury we could be in trouble. and in dime situations i wouldnt be surprised to see 3 safeties instead of 4 cbs. guys like reed and kareem could get the call until barnes or tryon figure it out.

Coltís Corner Ė Examining the Ravens Game

By John Pappas
Warpath Confidential Editor

Last Thursday was a rough night for the Washington Redskinsí offense. The team was shut out by an aggressive Baltimore defense. For Colt Brennan, it was especially bad. Brennan had his worst night as a professional, going 4-for-12 for 43 yards with an interception and a 10.1 passer rating.

We caught up with Brennan after he watched game film. He shared his thoughts on his overall performance, the interception, the pressure defense of the Ravens, and why he did not look as sharp as last preseason.

It was kinda what I felt [following the game]. I never really got a rhythm going. When the third quarter came around we were moving the ball a little bit, I threw that pick. Then in the fourth quarter we never had really good field position. Iím just looking back at it now and I realize I never really got in a rhythm and I never got anything going.

But what I did like about it was the [physicality] as far as when I moved, when I avoided, when I got out of the pocket, when I ran. When I did throw the ball downfield I had a couple good throws, good shots downfield. So physically, I was there. I looked good. I looked quick. I was throwing the ball well when I had guys.

We could really use Marshall but at what cost?

If Campbell can't succeed with him, then he's hopeless.

My thoughts on Tonights game:

QB's:

Jason Campbell: 1/7 for 10 Yards, 0 INTs.
Again another bad outing for Campbell. Still with how little he is playing there is no way for him to get any sort of rythym. Also what did

you expect from Jason against the Steelers first team defense. Jason did make a couple nice throws, one which was taken back for holding I

think. His long ball to Malcolm Kelly was short, although it was pouring and Troy P was in coverage.

Todd Collins: 5/9 for 39 yards, 0 TD's, 1 INT.
Typical Todd Collins outing although the INT gives him an awful performance for the night. Todd is Todd. He will make the dumps, but can't

move in the pocket and can't throw it over 10 yards.

Chase Daniel: 6/8 for 58 yards, 2 TD's, 0 INTS.
Surprise to see him come before Colt but he lit it up. He still doesn't have the arm to ever be an NFL starting QB, but I love his

intangibles. He has nice touch, great vision, great mobility, and very sound instincts. Practice squad is the best he'll be for this year,

but I would love to have him on the PS.

Colt Brennan: 3/5 for 42 yards, 1 INT
I was hoping being the 4th QB on the field would light a fire, but again a sour outing for Brennan who was so spectacular last preseason. He

had limited playing time but he did make a couple nice throws although his receivers were wide open for some reason. He had one smart play

getting away from the rush and avoiding the sack by throwing it out after he was out of the pocket. But damn his INT nearly cost us the game.

I have no idea what he was thinking. The Tight End was triple covered and he still tried to force it in between 3 people. At that point in

the game you have to be smart and know the situation. We were up. He had no reason at all to force it in there. He's lucky his roster spot is

secure because if he were actually in a fair competition with Chase Daniel he'd be in trouble.

RB's:
Clinton Portis: 5 carries/26 yards
Portis looke great especially since we know what he thinks about the preseason. Had a big run. Showed some of the early season explosion he

had last year. Hopefully we can keep his carries down so he doesn't gas in the second half of the season. He also came up huge in the pass

blocking rocking James Harrison who was about to knock down Campbell.

Ladell Betts: 4 carries/7 yards
We saw him briefly and he had a first down conversion. He'll be our third down back this season. It's good because he's pretty decent with

screen passes, but he is a horrible pass blocker.

Marcus Mason: 11 carries/45 yards
I love the way the kid runs, but he will have a problem making the roster because he can't contribute outside of being a runner and right now

we don't have a great need for a productive 3rd RB.

Rock Cartwright: 6 carries/26 yards
I think his roster spot this year could be in jeopardy. His Kick returning is still just average and as a RB he doesn't bring very much

although granted he did run hard tonight.

Dominic Dorsey: 11 carries/39 yards
He has a chance to make the roster as that 3rd RB. He could be our starting KR and PR and he is a special teams ace.

WR/TE's:

Santana Moss+Chris Cooley
It was just nice to see them out there and playing. Cooley I think had a catch while Moss had a drop. I'm not worried about either though,

most likely they will be the only 2 consistent threats once again.

Devin Thomas: 1 Catch/7 yards
I didn't even notice him on the field today other than his one catch. I don't think he played very much.

Malcolm Kelly: 2 catches/22 yards
He looked pretty good on his two catches. I wish he had fought back towards the ball when he got behind the defense on the first play of the

game. He still isn't ready to be our #2 sadly.

Fred Davis 2 catches/31 yards/1 TD
Great game by Fred this time. He made up for it this week. He caught the TD and held on to the friggin ball. He also caused the fumble in

special teams which won us the game.

Marko Mitchell: 3 catches/21 yards/1 TD
You know I love Marko and he was great today. His first catch he got 10 yards on the first down while breaking 2 tackles which was impressive for his build. His second catch was a great great jump ball in the endzone. He snatched it out of the air and got both feet down. His third catch was a pretty nice one on the sideline. Marko should make the roster as the 5th WR, and has a chance to get pt over Kelly and Thomas if they don't perform.

Kevin Eloi: 1 catch/8 yards
Eh I was excited about him coming in but he won't make the roster. He doesn't run good routes at all and is so scared returning punts.

Eddie Williams made a big catch as did D.J. Hackett. Hackett could make the team because of his connection to Zorn.

Offensive Line
I didn't really get a chance to focus on anyone on the offensive line this week because I was watching the WR's running routes and the QBs footwork. I did notice that Heyer did a pretty good job in pass protection. I also noticed Jerremy Bridges getting to the second level and making nice blocks.

Defense:
-Fat Albert had great effort and had double teams on him all day.
-Andre Carter is going to be a monster this year facing single coverage. Double digit sacks for sure. He was making plays across the field.
-Brian Orakpo is an absolute monster. He will be a pro bowl LB one day. At times he still looks uncomfortable in coverage but he didn't allow a pass on him and knocked down a ball. He also made a nice open field tackle in space for a loss as a LB. Of course when he was a rush end he got to the QB every time. He was credited with one sack, but could have easily had 3.
-Chris Wilson should make this roster. He's a great speed rusher and could help us as a LB.
-Jeremy Jarmon got in late and made the play to the seal the game showing a nice motor.
-Deangelo Hall was active today. Good in coverage and physical against the run.
-Carlos Rogers didn't look great in the few plays he was in.
-Kareeem Moore upsets me. He has taken steps back. He is always late and always missing tackles.
-Justin Try'in, wasn't as much of a sore tooth today but he is still a bum. Celebrating because your man dropped the ball for an open 1st down, please.
-Kevin Barnes looked real smooth in coverage this year but sucked on special teams. He was afraid to take on blockers and make a tackle.
-Lendy Holmes made some nice tackles.

I'd hope not. Colt still has the arm to be an NFL QB. As much as I love the intangibles Daniel brings, he just doesn't have a pro arm. He looks like an excellent arena or CFL player. Still though Colt needs to stop making stupid throws.
