Even in his good season with us he never had the great mechanics. He just got the job done with his feet to buy time. He has a strong arm. God I wish we woulda went local and took Rodgers.

I agree that Rodgers is now becoming an excellent QB, but please keep in mind that he was able to develop for 4 years behind Favre, had very little coaching turnover, and didn't have the pressure & bulls-eye a number 1 overall pick yields. He also has had a better line and therefore has taken A LOT less sacks than Alex, who likely developed the "David Carr Disease" from getting flattened every other play.

That all being said, Alex should be at the point in his career where he can claim a starting job, command a huddle, and use proper technique/footwork fundamentals.

Why? The result would have been the same. No matter who was drafted, they were going to fail because that was possibly the worst team of the last 15 years they were going to get drafted by. If Alex couldn't beat out Shaun ******* Hill, why on earth would I have faith in him from here on out?

Bring on the Nate Davis era.

Aaron Rodgers never had the mechanics problem that everyone knew Alex had. Everyone was just scared of Rodgers because he was coming from a Jeff Tedford team.

Rodgers also had that weird Tedford-inspired stance where he held the ball extremely high. NFL scouts weren't high on that at all, saying that he would fumble a lot when hit by a defender because the ball was exposed, away from his body.

Yeah that kinda went with the whole being a tedford team thing.

I realize he wouldnt have had mechanics issues. I am saying that the void of talent was so great, no matter who we took, they would be destined to fail because of the habits developed, or injuries that would be a near-guarantee to occur when you have a ****** o-line. Remember when Alex was thrown out there as a rookie? He was running for his life half the time, and Rodgers isn't that mobile.

he is still young and but he has older coordinator who isn't going anywhere.
smith however, he is as done as lagarret blount. it is just a matter of time. the dude has been garbage and i've said this time and time again...rattay could have stayed the starter the year sf took smith ( at least for the season ) and that pick should have been braylon edwards.

If they could get Snead (or any other equally talented/more talented QB not named McCoy/Tebow) in the first, then they should take him, and cut Alice (I'm bringing it back) leaving Nate to be #2.

We should cut Alex anyways. He hasn't been given a fair shake but he just isn't good.

Did anyone see the SF/SD game because I just watched the highlights and the stats say that Davis threw an INT but if its at the end of the game, the ball it the ground, thus making it incompletion. Did Davis throw another INT besides that one???

And we dont need to draft another first round bust QB because, we have -

Nate Davis.

I like this guy. Just watching his passes. Good accuracy and talk about zip on a pass.

As of now, instead of drafting a QB, we should use our two first rounders on a franchise RT and a stud pass rusher. And then, draft Crabtree again in round seven and after signing him, suspend him for conduct determental (yeah, I know I spelled it wrong but I dont really care) to the team. LOL.

Braylon Edwards was my number one choice with Antrel Rolle number two and Alex Barron/Jammal Brown being number three.

The funny thing is that after we drafted Smith, CLE actually talked to us about trading the number three overall draft pick for Smith and while it was actually considered, it was declined in the end because we then would have taken Rodgers but drafting two QB's would make the new management look like they didnt know what they were doing which they werent anyway but thats another story for another time.

I turned off the game in SD after 1.5 qtrs. out of disgust & overall disinterest.... the 1st team 9ers defense looked like **** vs Volek & the SD 2nd team offense. They never got it together to defend pass or run.

I'll say this for Nolan, he rebuilt one of the worst defenses in the league with his defensive expertise & using the high draft picks for starters Willis & Lawson, bringing in Clements & Justin Smith thru FA, etc, but they still aren't where they need to be as an effective 3-4 yet. And still no pass rush to speak of, that's a killer -- they're like 2-3 players away from playoff level on defense, pass rusher, NG, & a safety not named Mark Roman.

One outstanding moment early was Coffee's 1st run for a 9-yd. gain with Chilo Rachal's block on Burnett that drove him backwards & spun him a full 360 before he hit his own player. they thought he injured his neck & Burnett left the game with a stinger. Rachal is going to be a stud for the 9ers.

i agree 100%. don't get me wrong if bradford fell to our laps i'd be kind of pissed if we passed on him.
if the draft was today now that marvel smith is gone, assuming michael crabtree doesn't ever wear a niner's outfit, and a.smith is cut like he should have been a long time ago this would be my mock:
1. sergio kindle - de/ olb
1. trent william - ot
2. myron lewis - s
3. marshawn gilyard - wr

Manny Lawson and Isaac Sopoaga were the ONLY defensive starters to play more than a few plays.

Snead to the Niners in Scott's new mock. I'd love it. Also, has us taking Patrick Robinson, a corner from FSU.

Not happy with either pick. As of right now, I dont want us drafting another QB in the first round. I'm hoping for a franchise RT (if Snyder fails), a stud pass rusher DE/OLB hybrid, a FS to replace Roman and if there's one, a stud NT because thats what you need to successfully run the 3-4.

I'd love it if we took Snead. I don't want McCoy, Tebow, or Bradford. Unless he has a meltdown this year, Snead is my number one target for 2010.

If there's a chance to use a high Draft Pick on a potential QPOTF, they have to go that direction over Safety. Until the QB position is filled with a Franchise QB, this team will not be a perennial playoff threat.

This is true, but the lines are also a huge issue. Our QB's feel the pressure, opposing QB's don't. It's been this way for a while and we've had 6 straight losing seasons. Until we fix it we'll continue to keep losing.

It's all preliminary, but I'm hoping the 49ers snag a QB, OT, and a Pass Rusher with our picks in the 1st and 2nd round.

I'm pretty upset we cut Kory Sheets. Coffee is a gore clone- we need someone with speed, that's Sheets.

We also need to pick up an OT. I'd cut Rossum or Spurlock for another OT.

Other than that, i'm fine with the roster.

I don't get the Sheets cut, but M-Rob had a good preseason and apparently they figured he's be a solid 3rd RB. Plus he's awesome on special teams.

I figured they'd cut Rossum OR Spurlock, but net keep both.

They also cut JJ Finley AND Pascoe, when they were supposedly fighting each other for Bajema's former role as a blocking TE. This makes me nervous that they're not going to unleash VD as much as it looked like they were going to, keeping him around to block. VD needs to be utilized in the vertical passing game for the Niners to take a step forward this year.

Side note: OT Tony Pashos (former starter) for the Jags was cut today in a surprising move. Maybe the Niners could nab him to help with that gaping whole in the O-Line depth chart.
