I think they keep Chilo statring at RG, because Sing seems to like him and Anthony Davis has said he's comfortable next to him. Let this young right side of the O-Line mature together. Gore can just run left and cut back right if they get a push. :)

yeah, they could easily pull a Shaun Alexander-type deal and just run left all game.

That is not gonna help in the passing game, which is where Davis and Rachal both need the most help. To be honest I would have no problem if the coaching staff goes with Wragge and Sims until they feel like Rachal and Davis are really ready. I wanna win now :-D

We will have to hope that Smith and Davis can build on what they had last year and Smith and Crabtree develop needed chemistry so the offense can sustain more drives this year. Zeiglar and Byham could play key roles this year. The crowd is going to cause some problems for a young line in Seattle this year.

On defense the key is going to be getting off the field on third down. Again.... More Brooks and Laboy on third and long may help remedy this, but part of it is the corners not playing close enough and that has a lot to do with confidence in their safety support imo. It is hard to say how much of the corners' big cushion is because Manusky doesn't believe in them or if it is the safeties' inability to do their jobs. The coaches will never say publicly what the reasons are so it is just guesses on our part.

If they keep Rachal in when Heitmann comes back and bench Baas, that would be really disappointing. The best 5 olinemen are right there, and Chilo isn't one of them; put the best 5 on the field.

If they kept Haralson in every down when Brooks/Briggs/LaBoy are all on the roster, I would seriously have to question our coaches.

I just want to remind everyone that this is preseason. If you judged players based on what they do in preseason, then players like Chris Johnson would get benched.

I expect Haralson to play more than Laboy this year even though Laboy had a better preseason.

While I agree that the preseason is overrated in some aspects (the Lions going 4-0 in preseason 2 years ago then going 0-16 in the regular season) you can see flashes (good and bad) during the preseason from players, especially younger players that are progressing, that will give the coaches an idea on how they are coming along, and what they can expect from them production-wise during the regular season. Preseason is an inexact science like the combine, but it's still important.

The problem is Haralson has stunk for a while now. All of the OLBs have talent; personally I would just rotate them all on a consistent basis so the other team doesn't know what to expect, plus it keeps everybody fresh.

I like the OLB rotation idea as it will lead to the relentless pursuit of the opponents QB and show who really is the best at the position, as there isn't much of a gap between our OLBs right now.

Except that Lawson is miles ahead of everyone else against the run and in coverage. If you meant pass rushing then, yeah, I agree. Lawson should be on 1st and 2nd down no matter what and he should be in on most 3rd downs as well. Haralson should be rotated out with Brooks, LaBoy, and Briggs (if Brooks doesn't take the starting job when he comes back)

Yes, I should have clarified. Lawson should be in on normal downs and Parys should be rotated with Brooks, LaBoy and Briggs. They can also rotate with Lawson is strict pass rushing situations, like a two minute drive when the other team is down by 4+. Manny is the best all around player and athlete, making him good for both the run and pass, so long as he can maintain stamina.

I'm looking at how good Earl Thomas, Morgan Burnett, and Nate Allen are looking and I can't help but feel frustrated. We need someone to replace Lewis ASAP. bleh.

Michael Lewis saved himself from being cut but this will undoubtedly be his last year with the 49ers.

Maiocco reported that Lewis' scheduled $4.1 million salary was slashed to $1.7 million, plus a $400,000 bonus. Additionally, the final two years were eliminated from his contract. That means Lewis will be scheduled to hit the free-agent market at the end of the season. Lewis declined a request to comment on his new contract, a team spokesman said.

WOW!!! Didnt see this coming but smart move by the 49ers. Just one question, Lewis signed a 5 year deal back in 2007 so technically, didnt they just eliminate the last year of his contract which would have been 2011 while re-doing 2010? Thats what it seems like to me.

Anyway, its looking more and more likely that Mays and Smith will be our starting safeties in 2011. Lewis will be gone and I dont see the team keeping Lawson or Goldson. I dont agree with not re-signing Lawson and Goldson but whatever. Sadly, there's nothing I can do about it.

I can definitely say that im concerned about our secondary in 2011. Lewis will be gone. Goldson will most likely be allowed to leave as an UFA and Clements will most likely be released. That's three good quality starters in the secondary that could be gone in six months. Draft wise, first round better be on a CB.

On the bright side, it looks like Binary can be happy in a year from now since it looks like the starting FS spot will be Smith's to lose.

Mays. I think Smith will be replacing Goldson at FS in 2011 since I dont see them re-signing him. And I definitely see Taylor making the final 53.

I could see them franchising Goldson next year if he has another great season. His price tag would be less than Alex Smith's or Franklyn's would be for their positions and would provide another year for the other young safeties behind Goldson to develop.

Actually, I cant see that because the team would put Franklin ahead of Goldson. While the franchise tag would be cheaper to use on Goldson than it would be on Franklin, the difference is that Goldson is in his prime where as Franklin isnt. I would much rather see Goldson extended/re-signed and Franklin tagged instead of the other way around.

And what's going on with V.D.??? Wasnt he supposed to be extended by now??? I'm definitely worried because I was hoping that Davis, Goldson and Lawson would be extended before the regular season starts so the franchise tag would be available for Franklin and that our only major UFA would be Smith if he plays good enough to be worth re-signing. After him, its backups like Hill and McDonald.

I believe VD will be extended early during the season, before the bye.

Yes, Franklyn would have more value/priority over Goldson to be franchised, but I just don't see it happening at this point. How he plays this season will tell all but he definitely would NOT like be franchised again for the second year in a row.

I believe resigning Lawson over Goldson (if they had to choose between the two) would be a good decision at this point based on depth at the position and how hard it is to get athletic OLBs that can play the run and the pass well. Lawson needs to help his case and get double digit sacks this year.

On another note, I don't believe Jason Hill is going to make the team as the Niners last WR over Zeigler. I think they should shop him for a mid to late round selection before they just cut him. It's time to call up a team like the Redskins (who have a disappointing WR core) and offer them Hill for a pick or two.

Crabtree and Davis exchange words on the field:
http://blogs.sacbee.com/49ers/archiv...words-bet.html
Sing said it wasn't football related so wonder what it was? Nevermind looks like it was over Crabtree sitting out last few practices and games:
Off Maiocco's twitter:
Quote:
so what do you think the "elephant" was? > Crabtree's attitude and perceived apathy toward training camp and exhibition season.
In other Vernon Davis news he is dating one of the chicks that used to be on the "Bad Girls Club" Natalie Nunn
http://blacksportsonline.com/home/in...-natalie-nunn/
Like the scouting report on her from Black Sports Online:
Quote:
Now for you who aren’t familiar with Natalie Nunn, think of Kat Stacks with a longer chin and a better credit score and the readers who are familiar with the Bad Girls Club can validate that comparison.
Sounds like Vernon's got a winner. /drops him in my fantasy rankings.

Oh man. Watch yo back Vernon. This is the same girl that claims to have had sex with Chris Brown (real winner) and when he denied it she said that he'd better admit it or she was going to give the naked pics and vids she had of him to the media.

Yeah, real winner Vernon.

Yes, Franklyn would have more value/priority over Goldson to be franchised, but I just don't see it happening at this point. How he plays this season will tell all but he definitely would NOT like be franchised again for the second year in a row.
I sure as hell hope so.

I think that there's a chance Franklin could get franchised again because if Davis, Lawson and Goldson are extended, the only other player that the tag might be used on would be Smith but he would have to do awesome for that to happen and at best, if Smith returns, I think that he'll be re-signed before the deadline so the tag can be used on Franklin. Tagging Franklin would make a lot more sense compared to giving him a long term deal. At least to me anyway.

As much as im a Lawson fan, I have Goldson ahead of him because losing Lawson wouldnt hurt as much as losing Goldson especially when you add in Lewis and possibly Clements. If that was to happen, you're talking about THREE starters in the secondary compared to ONE starter in the LB core and considering we have Haralson, Brooks, Laboy, Briggs and even Davis, the depth is better at OLB than it would be at safety and the secondary in general.

For some strange reason, I dont see the 49ers trading or releasing Hill because with Crabtree, Morgan and Davis, Hill should have a lot more chances to show what he can do and there's almost no pressure on him because defenses will be focused on the other three. Not only that but if an injury occurs, I dont feel comfortable with Ginn or Williams at all at WR but thats just me.

Add C Cody Wallace as a trade possibility to the Jaguars who I think only have one center on their active roster. I wouldnt be surprised if this actually happens.
