The schedule is out. We get the late Thanksgiving game hosting Seattle. Then two weeks later we are back in Seattle. Facing the Raiders on the road in-between.

Overall this is the best looking schedule we've had in two years. Largely because we're playing the NFC East and AFC West. I'm guessing 11-5 record if our key players stay healthy. Our losses will be at Denver, at Seattle, at New Orleans, vs Philadelphia, and at Arizona.

Also, the fifth year option isnt guaranteed until either the first day of the 2015 league year or opening kickoff Sunday (dont know which since I have read different articles mentioning both) so at the very least, the 49ers have 9 months to decide to keep him for 2015 or not. Also, if he doesnt go to jail, he'll most likely be suspended but im guessing that it would be a four game suspension as it would be his first suspension by the league. Even if its an eight game suspension, you have to wonder if some other team would be interested in trading for him especially at under $15m for 2014 and 2015 combined.

Bottom line is that NOT picking up his option has a far greater chance at backfiring as opposed to picking up his option. I'm not happy with Aldon (among others) but his option needs to be picked up so the team can control his rights. What happens if he avoids jail time, misses eight games but in the eight games he plays, gets a total of eight sacks or better?

Then what? Franchise tag which would cost a lot more than the under $10m option. Let him walk for free? Hell no. There's no risk to picking up the option which in turn means that you do it regardless of how it looks PR wise because in the long run, the PR could be far worse if he leaves as an UFA in 2015 and does awesome with a new team and more importantly, stays out of trouble.
I agree that they they should pick up the option unless they feel that they don't want him on the team anymore. That seems to be the reasoning behind taking the gamble of not picking it up, with him proving that he deserves a new contract. The school of thought on this is that if he knows he has $9M+ more coming to him, that he'll let down his guard and maybe make more poor decisions; however I've read that the option is not guaranteed if he is suspended by the team or the league. We'll see what happens in the next week.

Regarding the sked, I like the mid-season bye-week placement. It'll be tough to go against the Hawks on Thanksgiving on a short week after facing the Redskins but at least both those games are at home. Another tough month to start a season but this team is battle-tested and used to it. I'll be attending the Week 3 game so I'm pumped about that!

Scott Mac leaving the Seachickens for 'personal reasons.'

Dude has an eye for talent but he also has two for the bottle it seems. He's hoping to set his own scouting department up from home for consultations. Hopefully it all gets straightened out for him as he's helped build two great teams.

Technically, he'll think that he has $9m+ coming but until the date comes that its guaranteed, he doesnt. Team could still release him before that due date. Also, he's been participating in the off-season workouts that started the other day and that's a risk for the team too because if he gets injured, his 2014 salary becomes fully guaranteed. Another week to go.

Was hoping to kickoff the season in Seattle. Oh well.

Scot should go to the Rams for a few years and then the Cardinals. If he builds them up good enough, he could be the guy responsible for helping the entire NFC West. LOL.

Meh, I don't how much credit Scotty Mac deserves for anything Seattle has done. Schniner is defintely the man that has impacted that franchise the most, from a personnel standpoint.

A few things about our schedule compared to the other teams in the division:

- We're the only team without an early bye. The Rams, Cardinals and Seattle all have their bye on week 4. Ours isn't until week 8.

- The other three teams in the divison are at home before their bye week and then on the road. Not us. We're on the road before our bye and then at home.

- Arizona and Seattle have only one time when they have two home games in a row, St. Louis has two, and we have three.

- We have to travel to the east coast once, Seattle and St. Louis three times, and Arizona twice.

- In our final six game we never have to leave the Pacific time-zone, and with one of our away games in Oakland probably only going to be a simple bus ride, our only flight in that stretch is to Seattle.

Our schedule is very favorable out of all in the the NFC West.

Good observations on the sked. If the Niners start out hot in the first 4 games when their schedule is arguably the most challenging (opponents and travel considered), I think that they'll hit their stride and then the 2 games in 3 weeks vs Seattle late in the season will naturally be games that likely decide the division and playoff seeding.

Definitely worried about the short week playing in St. Louis Monday night, then going to Denver on the very next Sunday night. Otherwise definitely like all things considered.

Most of us were wanting them to take Ward in the mid 2nd so securing him at the end if the 1st I'm fine with, especially since the Cards took Bucannon a few picks before, who was the other (bigger) versatile safety a lot of us liked. I see that they have a fit/plan for Ward and he can contribute right away in a couple roles and then become a full-time starter in 1-2 years. He's a much more versatile, higher Football IQ guy than the CB options/value that were available at 30. The BIG CB's with long arms Baalke covets are still available and I'll be shocked if one of them isn't added to this Draft class in the 2nd Round. Can't wait for Day 2 to start and see the moves the Niners make!

I'm predicting they take Desir as one of the picks today, with a 'surprise' pick being one of the Notre Dame D-Lineman slipping into the 2nd.

Makes it even beter to see what we will do today. Very few open spaces left and still a lot of picks.

Yes, a conditional 4th rounder next year. All hail Baalke!

An NFL level 'stretch the field' guy that is just in the prime of his career (Age 27) that has proven production in the league.

Now they can target one more developmental WR in the Draft that can compete with QP and be Crabtree walk insurance. That will make 6 WRs on the final 53, including Osgood for ST.

Baldwin is on the outside looking in at this point, assuming Lloyd makes the team, which is not a definite.
