What's everyone's top 5 albums of all time? Not necessarily the 5 most critically acclaimed, just your personal top 5.
1. Capital Punishment- Big Pun
Pun is in my top 3 rappers of all time, and the only reason he's not #1 is because of how short his career lasted. Like Biggie, Pun had a universal appeal and versatility that satisfied all rap fans. Like he says in Leatherface "What you wanna do? Hardcore? Commercial? You wanna dance? I got it all locked down." This album is classic to me, the production has a Bronx feel to it from start to finish and Pun rips every track with his crazy multi-syllables.
2. It's Dark and Hell is Hot- DMX
DMX rose to the top of the rap world in 98 and this album was one of the first CDs I ever purchased. What made this a classic to me was how vivid DMX was able to portrait stories of crime and hard times in his lyrics. It was aggressive and unlike anything I ever heard. DMX was the hardest rapper of all time and this album belongs in everyone's top 10 IMO.
3. I Am...- Nas
Illmatic is probably the greatest album of all time but I spent more time listening to I Am. It had plenty of classic Nas tracks including Nas Is Like, Life Is What You Make It, Hate Me Now, Small World, etc.
4. Life After Death- Biggie
Like Nas' I Am, everyone will not agree with me on this being BIG's best album but the production on this trumps Ready to Die IMO. This was the album that certified BIG as the GOAT, and was a double disc that was loaded with quality tracks. I've gone weeks without taking this out of car CD player because it never gets stale.
5. Uptown Saturday Night- Camp Lo
Camp Lo was one of the most underrated rap duos of all time IMO. This album has a classic 70's feel to it and makes you want to crack open a bottle of champagne and take a limo ride around the city. It's just a feel good album with great production and great lyrics, one of my personal favorites for sure. Lots of good memories with this album. Geechi Suede was the definition of swag.
HM: Kiss of Death-Jadakiss, ATLiens-Outkast, 2001- Dr. Dre, Doe or Die- AZ

**** yes. I'm not a huge fan of the majority of mainstream rap/hip hop these days (not trying to start anything, just isn't my thing) but that's probably in my top 3 favorite albums of the past couple years. It's very rare that I love (pretty much) every song on an album.
