Yeah I'm far from a seasoned gym pro, and I'm admittedly a small guy that doesn't lift as heavy as other people, but at least I'm not just curling for 2 hours a day like those guys.

I probably should curl more honestly, I don't curl at all. I just try to build up my legs, core and back.

but really it's your tricep... your triceps dictate size so much more

Of the main lifts bench press has always frustrated me the most. It takes me forever to get stronger and if I take a break I lose all the progress in no time.

Yeah. I find bench to be the most frustrating as well. I think OHP is more prone to stalls, actually, but I am naturally very good at it while average at bench.

I got pretty good at benching, for my height/weight I think... but ****... I left for deployment for 4 months and barely got to bench (rocking ship) ... and I've regressed soooooo much... that's what's frustrating about that. I'm slowly getting it back though.

I like OHP mainly because I feel like a ******* beast on it. I just love the movement.
Though I have stalled on it pretty much... always stuck around 135 lbs +/- 10 lbs all the time

I stopped lifting for about 2 years after high school hopped on bench and hit close to what I used to rep all the time. What helped me a lot were drop sets and resistant bench, using resistant bands on the bar. I have such huge thighs from squatting so much that I dont want to do anything heavy when I'm squatting anymore. When I wear pants I like them fitted so most of those types of pants wont fit over my calves or thighs comfortably so I have to go a size up but then my waist is so loose even with a belt, it sucks.

It's counterintuitive, but super-high reps built my calves up pretty well. We're talking hundreds of full range-of-motion calf raises.

I'd be skeptical if somebody told me that, if it weren't for the fact that it worked for me. I think range of motion is pretty key, though. You might get better results with a more sane rep number and a heavier weight, as long as the range of motion is legit.

I am good at reps but my max isn't quite what it should be for what I rep. I can get over 20 reps of 225 but my max isn't much over 300.

I agree with this. I do some heavy sets on the leg press or at the squat wrack but generally just go with range of motion and repetitions.

Calves are genetic and anyone who believes otherwise is insane. I have nice calves, but I've seen better.

I did calf raises everyday in weights during high school....every ******* day for 4 years trying to get mine to be the same as my buddy...and nothing ******* happened.

Calf lifts don't do ****. You either have em or you dont.

The most I've ever seen my calves grow was during a period when I was playing a lot of basketball and hiking a lot. I believe calves naturally respond more to high volumes of work than most other muscles. It's normal for a person to use their calves a lot because they're involved every time we take a step. Other muscles may respond to lower volume because it's not normal to use them throughout the day. Two excercises that often make my calves feel tired are jumping rope, especially double unders, and lateral bar hops.


This dude is using a lower elevated bar than I prefer, but that's up to the individual.

Calf lifts don't do ****. You either have em or you dont.
The calves are already used to a ton of work and a lot of it is genetic but saying you can't improve them is very false. Mine have came a long, long way through basketball and lifting.

I just worked out legs and made sure I didn't skip calves at the end when I was tired as hell
