Jason Smith is very close to signing. I wouldn't be suprised if he is on our practice field this afternoon. Signed no later than tomorrow.

I don't think he deserves that kind of money but he was definitely a top 3-5 talent.

Like blindsite said, potentially. Isaac Bruce is still a solid starter, Josh Morgan and Jason Hill are both extremely talented and played well at the end of last year, Brandon Jones is a good #3/slot WR, when healthy Arnaz Battle could be the #2 on most teams, and even Dominique Zeigler has the ability to win a roster spot and has been impressive in limited action. Crabtree will, in all likelihood, be the #4 WR this year unless he really comes along fast or someone gets injured.

Neither has Crabtree, though. At least the 49ers know what they are getting in Bruce, Battle, and Jones; solid WRs that are unspectacular but consistent; and Morgan, Hill, and Zeigler have all shown potential against NFL players. Crabtree hasn't done **** in the NFL. All I am saying is, like phylsac said, the 49ers will not really miss Crabtree that much if he holds out.

A big reason that 1st Round picks are the last ones to sign are that teams begin negotiations with them last. Teams have to fit the 2009 Cap totals of all their Rookie Contracts into their Rookie Pool. That means that 1st Round deals have to be structured in a certain way, having Roster Bonuses, and other bonuses other than signing bonuses, in order to bring their 1st Round pick's cap hit down. They need to sign their other picks first so that they know how much of their Rookie Pool is left and how to structure the 1st Round Pick's contract.

Just got wind Heyward-Bey has agreed to a deal with the Raiders.
http://profootballweekly.com/2009/07...agrees-to-deal
This really paves the way for the Bengals to get the Andre Smith deal done very soon as the number 5 and number 7 picks are now locked up. The Bengals also have been doing work, signing Rey Maualuga, Michael Johnson, and Chase Coffman within the past day and a half. Hopefully that all points to Andre Smith being in camp by the end of this week or beginning of next week.

The Falcons already have 7 out of 8 picks signed, and it looks like Peria Jerry's deal could be done by the end of today. His agent is Bus Cook, the same as Favre's, so now he can finally work on Jerry's deal. It will be great if all the rookies report in for training camp. The Falcons front office is showing the makings of a top unit in the league.

I figured as much, however... still not a bad deal, I was looking for more around the $15 million range.

I can't think of one guy in that roster who has a chance of getting 1000 yards.

But all of them have a chance for 700-900. The 49ers do not have a really good receiver but they have a lot of average to slightly above average ones.

They have a bunch of #3s if they can stay healthy. And the wildcard, Crabtree.

Josh Morgan and Jason Hill are both wildcards as well.
