QB Jerrod Johnson, Texas A&M
Dude is a 6'6, 245 lb. junior, mobile, big arm, and is outplaying some of the more highly touted college QBs this season.
Archie Manning supposedly told the kid at one of his son's passing camps that Johnson "had it all".
He had a nice write up is SI recently, and I'm getting a Flacco/Roethlisberger vibe off him.
So what's the scoop on this guy, and what are the chances he comes out this year??
Inquiring Skins fans would love to know......

Haven't watched him much but I will admit he jumps out immediately just because of the outstanding physical tools. Looking at his numbers though, they are pretty solid and I heard A&M was running a more fast break offense this year (someone can correct me if I'm wrong) and he's playing well this year. It'll definitely be interesting to see how he plays against the big teams this year. I would think he's a candidate to leave early with the weak QB class, especially with Freeman going in the first.
Anyone know about his character, work ethic? I don't want to sound like I'm stereotyping but physically he's built similar to Russell, which just makes me think of the work ethic issues Russell has.

Lol he was on my preseason breakouts list and I have completely forgot about him since I haven't seen a single A&M game on T.V. and haven't even seen a score or boxscore from the team. I liked what I saw from him last year. I said he was the most talented QB in the Big 12 including Bradford+McCoy and Robert Griffin who everyone was crazy about. I see some Culpepper in him. Vikings version that is. Although I don't see that Culpepper arm and if I remember him correctly he was more of a touch passer like Vince Young although of course with better mechanics. Also he isn't like Jamarcus. He is very mobile and strong. Don't know anything about his character.

This kid is playing like a super star right now. He hasn't been tested yet, but he's got all the tools in the world and is playing well in their offense. He's definitely a year away, but I love his potential. Probably one of the best kept secrets in football at the moment.

Why because he's big and black? Johnson is one of the more mobile QB's in the Big 12 and runs the ball like a FB. He's a dual threat, Leftwich would never even step two inches out of the pocket. Also Leftwich definitely has better armstrength but their throwing motions are complete opposites. Byron's failure in the NFL is because of his big windup delivery and lack of mobility while Johnson is a rushing threat and has a quick draw release. If we want to compare him to another big black QB than Culpepper would be the better one to make. Because of his look people want to immediately compare him to Jamarcus Russell but they really aren't that much alike.

I have a feeling his arm is better than some think!
How bad can your arm be anyway if you're 6'6, 245lbs.??

His biggest tests will come late in the season when the Aggies take on the Sooners and the Longhorns. If he can somehow keep up this great season against those two teams, then he's going to shoot up boards.

Bumping this thread out of curiosity. I didn't get to see him play at all this year so I wanted to see what everyone else had to say.

He's been very up and down this year. Had some great games (Texas,) and some bad ones (Oklahoma). Honestly, he has put up great stats, but his fundamentals are still very wishy-washy. The Kansas State game he really blew it, and his decision making skills need improving. He will go back to school, and if he plays up to his potential, he'll have a shot at going high next year.

he has a shot to be good. he wasnt even on my radar but the improvements he made in one year to his game are impressive. if he can continue getting better than by the 2011 draft he could be a first rounder. he may not be consistent yet but when he's on he can flat out dominate. Consistency will be the make or break issue with him but he'll have another year to work on it since it would be financial suicide to come out this year. he has to get better though. Right now he's nothing more than a 4th or 5th round project but if he can contin ue to improve he could sneak into that 1st round. the physical is there its only the mental that needs to be fine tuned

I go to A&M, and Johnson is still raw. He has the tools, but so do alot of guys. Still needs to make better reads and make better decisions.

I've heard a lot of good things about him. I've only seen a few A&M games. Is there any chance he comes out this year?

I doubt it. He doesn't have the hype factor.

This a fair assessment of him. He still hasn't turned the corner, but his potential is still very high. He's been a productive player as well. If he plays up to his ability he is a potential first rounder in next years draft, especially if Vince Young continues to look good as he'll remind a lot of scouts of him.

Dude has put up huge (HUGE) numbers this year. I'm definitely intrigued by him.
Is it true that he was recruited as a TE?

I really like him, he is nothing like Jamarcus and Leftwich, He has work ethic and mobility, reminds me of a taller Donovan Mcnabb, only threw 6 picks all season with 28 TD passes, and iirc they play pro style offense at TAMU.
I'm curious to see what he does against an SEC defense of Georgia.
EDIT:
"We just need to stay on course and handle adversity. For some of these guys this is their first college loss. We just can't go backwards. We have to adapt, over come, and move forward."
This is a quote from him after a loss this season, shows maturity and intelligence, please don't compare him to Russel ever again.

Watched one A&M game this fall. Came away very impressed by him. He will be a 1st round pick when he comes out just due to his measureables.
The thing I noticed though was during the game they said how Mike Sherman called him the most coachable quarterback he has ever coached. That is quite a statement from a guy who has been coaching for 30 years.
