Which RB does Carolina keep this off-season?
They have two running backs that topped 1100 yards. I understand that the NFL is a two back league now, but I don't know one team that could have two backs of this caliber on there roster. Both of these guys are three down players and could on any given season run for 1500+. And with the holes that Carolina has I just don't see them keeping both of them. Also DeAngelo Williams will be entering his last year on his rookie deal and will want big money. So who do you think they keep?

because of uncapped year and lockout possibilities, I can see Panthers keep them. If they want to move one of them to fill another need then Williams may be the one. Patriots may want him. umm.

I had already heard that they were gonna try and move Williams to recover the first round pick they traded away.

I think DeAngelo having two more years under his belt, leads me to think he'll get the nod.
As far as where he may end up ... New England's got three 2nd round picks, so there's room to do something there. Seattle's got two 1sts. Are the Saints in the market for a RB?

I think DeAngelo will be the one to go, but the Patriots better keep their fingers off of him. That'd be unfair.

Seattle makes a lot of sense for Deangelo.

Mike Goodson would make trading one of them easier, but it doesn't seem like you see many big name RB's traded for high picks. I wouldn't be too high on trading a high pick for a vet RB with a large salary. RB's have too short a shelf life to trade high Draft picks for.

Williams was a rookie in '06, so next season will be his 5th year. He'll be 27 by the draft. Means he'll also have to sign a new contract/extension. He didn't get a bunch of carries his 1st two years, so like Ricky Williams, one would think he'd last past 30 well. That said, would you rather take a chance with him struggling in old age, or busting on the pick?
Panthers have to figure out what they're going to do with Peppers too. And Delhomme. Gonna be an interesting off-season for Carolina.

Well with no new CBA any player with less than 6 years experience would become a restricted free agent.

LOL if you think the John Fox/Marty Hurney duo is going to make an aggressive future-conscious move like that when they've got a 1 year ultimatum. Even if they got extended, I still wouldn't bet on either RB going anywhere
I think they will have to part ways with one once DeAngelo's contract actually expires. Logically, the move to make there is keeping Stewart - but I have no idea what they actually do. Williams is the veteran, which typically under the Fox regime would make him the huge favorite. However, he's never really seemed to have the full confidence of the staff - he got way less carries behind Deshaun freaking Foster than Stewart is getting behind him, and when they drafted him it was more like they were taking the top RB on the board than a guy they targeted and took
I just hope this doesn't end up like the LdT/Turner situation. I love both guys, though I favor Williams a tad more...but I know Stewart has the age and raw talent advantage. You hate that you gotta make a move like this but at the same time you love it
edit: oh by the way, Mike Goodson sucks. Well, I take that back. He sucks as a RB. He might useful if he was converted to WR or used like the Saints use Bush. Sutton is the better 3rd string RB but if you ditch one of the top 2 guys and elevate him to back up the monster running duo goes away. He's a solid RB, nothing more

Can't see them trading either. RBs just don't have the trade value that you would need to justify trading them.
I can't see any reasonable Carolina fan accepting less than a very high 2nd for either, but more likely a 1st. I also can't see many teams that would give that. All I can think is possibly New England or perhaps the Colts as two teams that have low 1st rounders and any form of need at RB.
Just hard to see that happening. Plus I think the Peppers and QB situations will be given precedence over the excess of RBs. I don't see them moving either of them because I can't see the value for the Panthers, especially given that they were actually pretty good to close out the season and when Delhomme wasn't throwing picks. I think they need to add a WR and some extra impact on the DL and they can contend with a strong running game.

There's no reason to move either one of them.
Lets face it, the team went 8-8 and the largest reason for that was Jake Delhomme's inability to find his radar, the loss of defensive players and both offensive tackles. The defense came on strong they're likely to be lifted by the return of the injured players at linebacker and along the defensive line, though it appears highly likely Julius Peppers will leave.
That being said, without Delhomme, or even, an effective Delhomme this is probably a 10 win team, hell, with decent QB play it's probably a 12 win team.
Even if Delhomme comes back, or if the team does the smart thing and stick with Moore, he's going to need all the running game help he can get, besides Williams has one year left on his contract, as does John Fox, if Fox wants to remain in Carolina as the head coach he needs to rebound next year with a playoff berth at the very least and I'd think it would be better for the team to at least get to a championship game on the back of a division title.
With a healthy defense and both these running backs, if Moore can continue to grow the team has a great chance, based on his injury history, Stewart though he handled the load, isn't exactly someone who I'm convinced can handle 16 games as the feature back.
Muhummad is possibly going elsewhere as well, that's a lot of reasons to keep two dominant running backs, keep them around and ride them as we did a year ago to a divisional title.
