hmm
I think Davis likes Cable, but the contentious issue between the two is that Cable thinks Russell is a pile of hot garbage. I think Cable would be more than willing to give Russell as much of a chance as anyone else in training camp for the starting position (ie. may the best man win), but Davis may want Russell to start another season irregardless of how overweight and underprepared he is. If this is the case, than Cable will be gone, if not, I think he will still be the coach of the Raiders.
I think Cable has done a very good job and this team played quite well for the last half of the season. With a little bit of OL help, less injuries and better QB play this is a .500 football team, which for Oakland would be considered the best season in 8 years.

Normally not a fan of firing someone after one year, but I think with all the controversy Cable stirred up during his time in Oakland, it's pretty justified. What is he overall, 12-18? Not a very good record. It's sad that Al Davis is insistent upon JaMarcus Russell though, because without him this team actually isn't all that bad. Just think of what Jeff Garcia would have done if he started 16 games. I don't think an 8-8 or 9-7 record would be out of the question. As far as the candidates, I don't think Jim Fassel would be too terrible. He has some good experience with quarterbacks in the past.

I'm not really convinced of the same strife between Davis and Cable that others are inferring. If Cable had benched Russell in the manner he did and Al had really had a problem with it, there's no way the organization doesn't show some signs of internal strife. Cable was largely willing to do what Al wanted him to while he was there and I think the Russell thing wasn't really much of a departure from that.
I think Cable was fired because he was never much of a head coach. He was the best assistant coach we had when Kiffin was fired and so he was promoted, but there was never anything all that spectacular about him. Al is going to make some hire that he feels brings the team a dynamic coach (which probably means Leach or someone similar).
edit - well, apparently Cable isn't fired. I wonder if Al is testing the possibility of demoting him or bringing a staff not of his choice to work under him.

Most likely to make room if Hue gets offered elsewhere.

WTF Al? Cable was taking this team in the right direction. 8-8 record and went 6-0 in the division. This team is consistent quarterback play away from a playoff spot. I really can't understand this move.

If we do fire him, I am down for Hue Jackson to try and sex our franchise.

Our O-line has been horrific until Hue took over. Cable is just a good motivator. He's a horrible play caller and position coach. He still doesn't deserve to get canned, but Hue is the best thing that's happened to the Raiders since Jon Gruden.

LOL at even the mention of Harbs.
Why would he come to this dysfunctional franchise?

Im down for Hue Jackson to take over but Al Davis is such a dumbass, he pays Jano a fat contract and he loses us a game yet Cable gives us our best record since 2002 and he gets fired wow

Im wondering if Al will break out the overhead projector after he fires Cable, like he did with Lane.

Not surprising. I said at the beginning of the season that Al wouldn't tolerate anything less than a playoff berth. I'm disappointed, but not surprised.

No shock about this, Al Davis loves speed, and digital is much faster.

This surprises me as much as anything that Al Davis does could surprise at least. I thought Cable had done a pretty good job over the past couple of years of restoring credibility at that team and had done enough to get another year with what is a young team that has improved over the last few years and really is only a good draft class away from being a very solid looking team.

Yes Al Davis really needs to get a clue. Cable did a decent job this year all things considered.
