Mike Zimmer
Figured I would make a thread to monitor the progress in re-signing him or him moving on.
Every fan of a team that needs a DC is mentioning him, the only one I see with any shot is Washington for the $$$$$$. The Parcells/Zimmer connection is interesting but I really don't see that being the scenario that plays out. If he is going to leave I obviously hope he gets a HC job instead of going to Washington.
“It’s all up in the air. It’s a business deal,” defensive tackle Domata Peko said. “He said he wants to stay. I hope they keep him here. He’s a great coach and did a lot of great thing taking a defense no one knew a lot about and putting us in the Top 10.”
Marvin also says he expects him to stay but this is all the sort of stuff you expect to be said. Without him my hopes for next season decrease a lot (that and if Bratkowski is retained).

I think the words from Marvin was "very confident" in retaining Zim for next season. That sounds to me that the Brown family wont let him go anywhere unless a HC slot comes up. Not even sure how this would work from an organization perspective, a promotion to assistant head coach could be something their considering?

Isn't the offensive line coach Paul Alexander the assistant HC right now? I doubt he gets demoted.

FYI - Looks like Haslett was in DC yesterday. Rumor around Washington is that he is Shannys/Allens second choice behind Zimmer and that Snyder and co are working through talks with the Bengals about bringing in Zimmer for an interview. Ill keep you guys posted as I hear more.

You guys can have Zimmer, but it will be a trade, we get Orakpo, Fred Davis and Fletcher and 50% of Snyders worth.

That will require a trade too!
They take Bratkowski and Graham.
We get anything

Bengals keep Mike Zimmer
Posted by Michael David Smith on January 12, 2010 1:32 PM ET
Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer was considered one of the most sought-after assistant coaches in the NFL this off-season, with the Redskins and Dolphins among the teams that were reportedly interested in his services. But he's not going anywhere.
Steve Wyche of NFL.com reports that Zimmer has re-signed with Cincinnati.
There's no word on the details of Zimmer's contract, but considering that he had Dan Snyder's deep pockets to use as leverage, it's probably safe to say that the Bengals gave Zimmer a hefty raise.
The Bengals hired Zimmer as their defensive coordinator in 2008. He has previously worked for the Cowboys and Falcons.

If Bratkowski is replaced it will be the best offseason in recent memory. I mean Brat is the best someone should trade for him!!!

Hasslett isnt a bad coordinator.
Just not HC material.
You guys are gonna be my dark horse for the NFC next year if you guys get the Line straightened out.

yea i agree on hasslett. as strictly a DC i think he has been a good coach and he has all kinds of talent to work with on our defense but like you said hes not gonna be a guy you groom to take over for Mike in 4-5 years. im hoping that guy is Mikes son Kyle. Makes sense Zimmer staying where hes got a chance to be a HC soon.

THANK GOD. This was easily the most important thing we had to do this off-season, and it's encouraging to see that it got taken care of so quickly. I am elated.

Good resigning.
I'm on the fire bratowski bus, but other than that I think we just need to look forward to the draft.

Really really happy we resigned Zim, we needed to make that happen.

Great news about Zim, it makes this week a little better. Give Brown some credit for getting this done. This possibly lays the groundwork for him being the Bengal's head coach at some point?
Very unlikely that Brat will be going anywhere, Lewis basically confirmed this as the final press conference.

One thing i can say being a buckeyes fan is that i'm used to seeing what went on in cinci this year. Basicly the bengals played Tressel ball. Run it alot play very strong defense and limit your mistakes and you'll win alot of games. As boring and stressfull as the games were this year the fact remains the bengals won more games then they lost. Thats the first goal of any team. lets face it that has been the way the AFC north has been playing football for alot of years. The bengals finally adapted their game and played that way and it payed off with a playoff appearence. Mike Zimmer was a huge part of that and he has built a very good defense and with time i think it will just get better. Brat is not going to go anyhwere as long as the team wins games. And lets face it their isn't any teams that have great defenses and explosive offenses. you have to pick one or the other. if you have an explosive offense your defense doesn't get enough rest and spends way to much time on the field. Pittsburg is a good example of this. we all know how great their defense has been but this year when they couldn't run the ball and went to throwing it all over the place they strugled and couldn't hold leads late in the game because the defense was ran down.
I'm sorry this was so long but i think if you look at with a realistic point of view in the NFL you have to pick one side of the ball to excell in and right now the bengals have decided(and wisely IMO) to have a strong defense and control the clock with a strong running game. Yea it was sexier when we threw it all over the place and put up huge scores, but with Palmer not having the arm strength he used to and not having as many weapons passing the ball hasn't worked out.

This might be the most accurate assessment of this past season. Being in Columbus for school, it's easy to compare the Bengals to the Buckeyes in terms of style of play. It's very safe, and the majority of the time, it pays off quite well. My biggest problem with it is the tendency to tighten up and play safe when you think you've got the game won (i.e., the Oakland game). You have to make sure you can beat the teams you are supposed to beat if there is going to be any kind momentum being built over the course of the season. IMO, we should have only lost maybe 3 games this season. But due to Bratkow's weak-ass, predictable play calling when we should be putting people away, we ended losing games we shouldn't have. All in all, I think it's easy enough to say that playing safe and playing predictably are two completely different things.

Thank you Bengals organization... Now fire Bratkowski and make my dreams come true. I really am surprised this all happened so quickly, very impressed. Seems like Zimmer really wanted to stay here, gotta love that.
I can have complete confidence in the defense for next season which is nice. Without him, it would've been another question mark.
Now it's time to get the offense right and go for the playoffs again but this time hopefully do something.
Very pleased with this, would've been a gloomy offseason had he gone elsewhere.
On another coordinator note, Zampese is interviewing for the Bears OC job. He should be the OC HERE (him or anyone else not named Bratkowski).
I mean honestly, we whined and moaned so long about Breshnahan and FINALLY they made a move... Look how well that turned out. It couldn't get worse than Brat and I really mean that. Even when the offense was doing well I had complaints about him, I've never complained about Zimmer.
