I wouldn't have a problem if Pre-season games were played over-seas as well.

Meaningless games for them to show they want football (and not just soccer).

They want to expand the NFL outside of the States and your solution is that they give us the dregs of the NFL season? They won't expand American Football outside of the US without putting on real games, and eventually a Franchise.

In terms of the Pro Bowl, I think they should lock the teams at 43. If a player pulls out through injury then they don't replace him. You have 4th, 5th and 6th rated players at a position being selected to the Pro Bowl.

Playing the Pro Bowl overseas would be a terrible idea. You're taking the "supposed" best players that year and putting them in dumbed down offenses and defenses in a game that nobody plays 100%. You'd basically being showing a product that doesn't embody what the NFL really is or how its played.

That said, I'm sick of seeing teams play overseas and fans losing out on watching their team at home. If any league should expand overseas its MLB, not the NFL.

That's actually a really solid idea. Most fans who are already exposed to the game in a big way don't like the pro bowl, but I imagine that people who don't know a lot about football would love to go see Peyton Manning throwing to guys like Andre Johnson being covered by guys like Charles Woodson. They could start marketing the players over there and then people would go see them in the PB.

Say whatever you want but the NFL is going to be playing numerous games overseas whether we like it or not. Within a very few years, 2 or 3 games will be played every year to try to sell the game to Europeans. They will probably expand those #'s as the years go by.

This is all about money and nothing any of you say is going to slow it down. In business, you expand or die, the NBA and MLB will likely have teams around the world sooner which will give those sports an immense increase in TV money. If football loses out in foreign money, the sport could eventually become small potatoes to sports who have teams all over the world.

The NFL can see the writing on the wall and must keep up with other sports internationally or fall by the wayside. They know this and will do what is necessary to sell their sport abroad.

If the NBA and MLB international TV money brings in say a couple of hundred billion dollars for each sport, players salaries in those sports will turn football salaries into minuscule amounts and every North American kid with any talent will move away from football into sports where they can make 3 to 5 times as much money as they would get playing football. It wouldn't take too long before football players are made up of the dregs of American athletes and the sport entered a period of decline.
It is going to come a lot sooner than fans realize.

Logistically, its impossible for the NBA or Baseball to have franchises in Europe or Asia. They just can't continually fly back and forth across the ocean every couple days for games.

Since the NFL only plays a game a week it would be possible to do. Even with that the team in Europe would be at a huge disadvantage as Jet Lag is a major problem. Currently the NFL schedules a bye week after the london game to give players another week to recover. If Jet lag wasn't a problem they would have had no reason to do so. Without that extra week it would take a toll on players.

Obviously there would be huge changes in the way schedules are draw up for Baseball and Basketball with international teams involved. They wouldn't be flying back and forth every few days, a team would likely come for 2 or 3 weeks or even a month to play abroad once or twice a year, one long trip to Europe and one long trip to Asia. The rest of the schedule would remain in their home countries and they wouldn't play again till the world series.
Jet lag may be a problem but it doesn't stop soccer teams from different countries from competing, you would just have to build in a day or 2 in the schedule for getting used to the jet lag.

That would still suck for the International teams. Going on multiple month long trips across America. I geuss that could work for the regular season.

The real concern is playoff time. Than you can't give much extra time for adjustments. The league would be very worried about the quality of the games. Homefield advantage would be huge. Even going to 2-3-2, the jet lag would terrible. London is off by about 6 hours from Est? China is about 12?

OK... you clearly have some issues. We do have a league here, the game is taking off at grass roots level and is developing, but you have to understand, it's coming late to the game and sportsmen here tend to go to soccer, or Rugby before American Football. The game here is like the MLS if you will, trying to muscle in on Basketball, Baseball and obviously football.

Hopefully in time there might be a tv deal or something, but we're not ready yet.

I do have issues.......of MAXIM!!!! Anyway I just hate the fact that one day my team might be screwed out of a home game to go play for a bunch of people who like football as thier 3rd favorite sport.

I've seen the Jets play in NY, and in case you didn't know, talent doesn't grow on trees! Just look at your MLS and Rugby teams.

I get the point about losing a home game, I wouldn't want my soccer team to lose one either, but if Goodell wants to make the game truly International, then he is doing the right thing. People over here know the Pro Bowl is a sham and an imitation of the real thing (only 4-3 D's, no blitzing etc..).

insular much?

at the current rate, each team is losing one home game every 32 years. on that basis, in your entire lifetime there will be two less home games in baltimore - possibly three, if you're lucky.

have you attended every single home game in the last 32 years, i wonder (or however old you are)?
